Student Officers attending the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) visited Headquarters Northern Command at Udhampur as part of their professional military orientation and study of contemporary operational challenges.

During the visit, the scholar-warriors were briefed on the prevailing security environment in the Northern Command area and the operational imperatives shaping the Command’s preparedness and response mechanisms.
The delegation was also provided insights into counter-terrorism dynamics and the operational challenges involved in maintaining security in a complex and evolving environment. The briefing highlighted the importance of adaptive strategies and integrated responses to emerging threats.

Operational logistics formed another key area of discussion, with the officers gaining an understanding of the logistical requirements involved in sustaining military operations in demanding terrain and challenging conditions.
The student officers were further briefed on technology absorption and capability development initiatives being undertaken within the Command. The discussions highlighted the growing importance of modern technology, innovation and capability enhancement in meeting contemporary battlefield requirements.

The visit provided the HDMC participants with an opportunity to gain practical insights into the functioning of a field formation and understand the relationship between strategic decision-making, operational preparedness, logistics and technology-enabled capability development.
The interaction also reinforced the importance of professional military education in developing informed and adaptive leaders capable of addressing the increasingly complex demands of modern warfare.
