General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff, Indian Army, interacted with Indian Army veterans and Veer Naris at an Ex-Servicemen Rally in Pokhara, Nepal, on August 19, 2026, honouring their exemplary service, sacrifice and continued contribution to society.
During the interaction, General Dhiraj Seth felicitated nine veterans with the Yoddha Seva Samman in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society after retirement. The awardees were Sub & Hony Capt Resham Bahadur Chettri, Sub & Hony Capt Kishan Bahadur Thapa, Sub & Hony Capt Dum Bahadur Pun, Sub Maj & Hony Lt Bidur Thapa, Sub & Hony Capt Tara Prasad Shrestha, Hav Karn Bahadur Gurung, Hav Mabi Raj Rai, Nk Kul Bahadur Chettri and Nk Jagat Prasad Gurung.

The veterans have continued to uphold the spirit of service even after completing their military careers. Through various education and welfare initiatives, they have contributed to the upliftment of their villages and local communities.
Several of the veterans have also established rescue teams to assist tourists facing difficulties in the region, extending their commitment to public service and community welfare beyond their years in uniform.

General Dhiraj Seth appreciated their selfless efforts and dedication, highlighting their continued embodiment of the values of Seva, commitment and camaraderie.
Veer Naris were also felicitated during the rally as a mark of respect and gratitude for their sacrifices and contributions. Mobility equipment was presented to veterans as part of continued efforts towards their welfare and improved quality of life.

The COAS also dedicated the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic at Kohalpur to the service of the veteran community. The facility will strengthen access to healthcare services for Indian Army veterans and their dependents residing in Nepal.
The Pokhara engagement highlighted the Indian Army’s enduring bond with its veterans and their families and reaffirmed its commitment to their dignity, welfare and continued support.
The recognition of the nine veterans through the Yoddha Seva Samman also demonstrated how the ethos of military service continues to guide soldiers long after they leave the uniform, with their contributions strengthening communities and serving society.
