The Centre for Military Dental Excellence (CMDC) conducted a two-day Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme on “Digitization & Military Dentistry: Challenges and Way Forward” on September 25 and 26, 2026.
The programme was inaugurated by Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command. The two-day programme brought together serving and veteran Dental Officers along with civilian dental professionals in a hybrid mode.
The CDE focused on digitization in military dentistry and the challenges and way forward associated with the increasing use of digital technologies in modern dental practice. The programme provided a platform for serving and veteran Dental Officers and civilian dental professionals to participate in academic discussions and exchange knowledge.

Lt Gen Balakrishnan Jayan, DGDS and Colonel Commandant, Army Dental Corps, highlighted the role of emerging technologies in modern dentistry. He highlighted how Artificial Intelligence, virtual planning and digital workflows are reshaping modern dentistry and enhancing patient care.
The programme included scientific sessions, panel discussions, symposia, debates, quiz competitions and poster competitions. These activities provided an academic platform for discussions and exchange of ideas on digitization and military dentistry.
A Digital Arena was also part of the programme and showcased AI-based oral health scanners, bioprinters and other advanced technologies. The display highlighted the growing integration of digital innovation into military dentistry.

The AI-based oral health scanners showcased during the Digital Arena represented the application of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies in oral healthcare. Bioprinters and other advanced technologies were also showcased as part of the technology display.
The two-day programme brought together different sections of the dental community, including serving and veteran Dental Officers and civilian dental professionals. Their participation in hybrid mode formed part of the academic programme focused on digitization and military dentistry.
The scientific sessions and panel discussions addressed the theme of digitization and military dentistry, while the symposia, debates, quiz and poster competitions provided additional academic platforms during the programme.
The Digital Arena complemented the academic sessions by providing an opportunity to showcase advanced technologies. AI-based oral health scanners, bioprinters and other technologies demonstrated the growing integration of digital innovation into military dentistry.
