Kakamigahara, Japan, September 30, 2026: Indian men’s hockey team goalkeeper Subedar Suraj Karkera has achieved a major career milestone by completing 100 senior international appearances for India.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper reached the landmark during India’s campaign at the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 in Japan. Hockey India congratulated Karkera on completing a century of appearances for the senior national team.
Karkera made his senior international debut for India in 2017 and has since established himself as an important member of the country’s goalkeeping unit. Over the years, he has represented India at several major international competitions, standing between the posts during a number of important continental campaigns.
His international journey includes a gold medal at the 2017 Asia Cup, followed by bronze medals at the 2021 Asian Champions Trophy and the 2022 Asia Cup. He was also part of the Indian side that won gold at the Hockey 5s Asia Cup in 2023.
Karkera subsequently added the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy gold medal to his achievements and was part of the Indian team that captured the Asia Cup title in 2025.
Reaching 100 international caps during the Asian Games adds another memorable chapter to his career. The milestone reflects nearly a decade of perseverance, discipline and commitment while competing for a place in one of the most demanding positions in international hockey.
Hockey India President Dr Dilip Tirkey congratulated Karkera on the achievement and praised the goalkeeper for his composure and commitment whenever called upon to represent the country. Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also hailed his hard work, discipline and perseverance.
Since making his debut in 2017, Karkera has remained a dependable presence in India’s goalkeeping setup and has competed alongside some of the country’s leading hockey players at major international tournaments.
With his 100th senior international appearance, Subedar Suraj Karkera has now joined the distinguished group of Indian hockey players to have represented the country in at least 100 international matches.
The achievement marks a proud moment for Karkera and Indian hockey, recognising years of service, consistency and unwavering commitment to the national colours.
