Jammu, October 4: A 45-year-old Army soldier was found hanging inside a shed at the Sunjwan camp in the Channi Himmat area of Jammu on Sunday, officials said. He has been identified as Naik Wagh Ambades, a resident of Maharashtra.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), officials said the soldier allegedly died by suicide. The body was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, for postmortem and other legal formalities. The motive was not immediately known. Police have started inquest proceedings to ascertain the circumstances of the death.
A separate report by News Vibes of India, citing police, described him as Naik (Tradesman) Wagh Ambades of Buldhana district in Maharashtra, and said he was found dead in an open shed at the Sunjwan camp in the early hours of Sunday. A police team from Channi Himmat police station reached the spot and moved the body to GMC Jammu. That report did not state a cause of death and said further details were awaited.
No official statement from the Army on the unit, length of service, or next of kin had been issued at the time of the agency reports. The cause of death and the circumstances remain subject to the outcome of the police inquest and the postmortem examination.
