Indian Army personnel saved the life of a Bakarwal woman who suffered a critical head injury after a fall at an altitude of 9,700 feet in the remote Seoj Dhar area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday, 4 October 2026, a defence spokesman said.
The woman, a member of the Bakarwal community, sustained the injury while cutting wood and remained unconscious for nearly two hours at the high-altitude location. On receiving information, Army personnel responded immediately and reached the site of the medical emergency.
Under remote medical guidance through video consultation, Battle Field Nursing Assistants administered immediate treatment. The wound was cleaned and 12 sutures were applied under local anaesthesia, along with pain relief and intravenous support. Her vital parameters were monitored continuously, and she was stabilised before evacuation.

Given the difficult terrain and the absence of motorable access, the personnel, assisted by four Army-employed porters, carried the casualty towards Lati village. Coordination was established simultaneously with Civil Hospital Lati for onward movement by ambulance and further treatment. The family was also provided food and refreshments.

The defence spokesman said the timely medical intervention and determined evacuation reflected the Army’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance and prompt support to civilians in remote and challenging areas.
The incident was reported by PTI and carried by The Tribune and Kashmir Images. The woman’s name and the specific Army unit involved have not been disclosed in official statements.
