Amritsar/Chandigarh, October 27, 2026: Punjab Police’s Amritsar Rural unit has dismantled four separate illegal arms and narcotics supply networks in a coordinated crackdown, arresting seven individuals, including a serving Army soldier on leave. The operation led to the recovery of 14 sophisticated pistols and 20.130 kilograms of heroin, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced on Tuesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Uday (19) and Patras (19), both residents of Mastgarh in Tarn Taran district; Army soldier Yudhvir Singh (22), a resident of Ranike village; Sajan Singh (19) and Sahilpreet (20), both residents of Naraingarh; Jarmanjot Singh (20) of Sialka village; and Sahibnoor Singh (21) of Jujhar Singh Nagar in Batala.
According to DGP Yadav, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who facilitated illegal arms consignments for further distribution among criminal elements through an organised network. Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete network and establish its backward and forward linkages. The recovered weapons and heroin were intended for supply to criminal elements.
Operational Details
Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal provided the following account of the four operations:
- In the first operation, teams from Gharinda police station, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted Uday and Patras while they were travelling towards Khemkaran after allegedly retrieving a drone-dropped consignment of 10 pistols (one 9mm and nine .30-bore). Preliminary investigation indicated that the duo had previously retrieved and supplied at least 20-25 consignments of weapons.
- In the second operation, a joint team of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Amritsar Rural, and the Station House Officer of Gharinda apprehended Army soldier Yudhvir Singh, who was home on leave, and recovered one .30-bore pistol from his possession.
