Noida, October 30, 2026: IPS officer Preeti Yadav, a 2019-batch officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Noida Zone-1 in the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate, becoming the first woman officer to hold the prestigious position.
The appointment was made by Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh as part of an administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening law enforcement in the district. Yadav replaces 2018-batch IPS officer Saad Mian Khan, who has been transferred to the Agra Commissionerate after serving in Gautam Buddh Nagar for over four years.
Born on April 10, 1996, in Rewari, Haryana, Preeti Yadav comes from a family with a strong connection to policing. Her father, Mukesh Yadav, started his career as a constable in the Chandigarh Police and later rose through the ranks. Watching her father serve in uniform inspired her ambition to become a police officer and contribute to public service.
An academically brilliant student, Yadav secured an impressive 96.2 per cent marks in her Class 12 humanities examination. She subsequently pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Geography, emerging as a university topper and earning a gold medal for her academic achievements.
Determined to pursue a career in the civil services, she discontinued her postgraduate studies to concentrate on preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination.
Her dedication paid off when she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in her very first attempt at just 22 years of age, securing All India Rank 466. She was selected for the Indian Police Service and formally joined the service on August 26, 2019.
Following her training, Yadav began her field career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She subsequently served in various policing assignments before joining the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate, where she handled important responsibilities involving women’s safety, cybercrime and public security.
During her service, she has been recognised for her work and dedication to policing. She received the Director General’s Commendation Disc (Silver) on Republic Day in 2023. In 2025, she was also honoured with the Mahila Shree Samman by Noida Lok Manch in recognition of her contribution to public service.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Yadav has an interest in painting, art and travelling. She is regarded as a composed and approachable officer whose experience in public engagement, women’s safety and cybercrime is expected to help her manage the policing challenges of Noida Zone-1.
Her appointment places her in charge of an important urban policing zone within the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate, where maintaining law and order, preventing crime, ensuring public safety and addressing citizens’ grievances remain key responsibilities.
From being inspired by her father’s police uniform to clearing one of India’s toughest competitive examinations at the age of 22, Preeti Yadav’s journey reflects determination, academic excellence and commitment to public service.
Her appointment as the first woman DCP of Noida Zone-1 marks a significant milestone in the commissionerate’s history and serves as an inspiration for young women aspiring to join the Indian Police Service.
