Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, November 3, 2026: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth felicitated three distinguished Indian Army veterans with the prestigious Yoddha Seva Samman (YSS) during his visit to Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, recognising their exceptional contributions to nation-building, social welfare and community development after retirement from military service.
The recognition was presented under the theme “Yoddha Seva Samman – Karm Se Gaurav, Seva Se Vijay” (Honour Through Action, Victory Through Service), celebrating the enduring spirit of service demonstrated by former soldiers who continue to make meaningful contributions to society beyond their military careers.
The three veterans honoured were Brigadier Santosh Kurup, Sena Medal (Retd), Colonel Sunil Ramdas Rajdeo (Retd), and Havildar Laxman Jagnnath Andhale (Retd), each recognised for outstanding contributions in different fields.
Brigadier Santosh Kurup, SM (Retd), was honoured for his significant role in training Maharashtra Police commandos in counter-Naxal operations. Drawing upon his military experience and operational expertise, the veteran officer has contributed to strengthening the capabilities of police personnel engaged in counter-insurgency and internal security operations. His efforts demonstrate how the professional knowledge acquired during military service can continue to benefit the country’s security establishment after retirement.

Colonel Sunil Ramdas Rajdeo (Retd) received the recognition for his dedicated work towards the welfare of military veterans, support for Veer Naris (war widows) and mentorship of young people. His contributions reflect a sustained commitment to supporting the extended military community while guiding the younger generation through counselling and mentorship.

Havildar Laxman Jagnnath Andhale (Retd) was felicitated for his efforts to empower underprivileged students through education and career guidance. His initiatives have focused on helping young people overcome educational and socioeconomic challenges by providing guidance and opportunities for personal and professional development.
The recognition of Havildar Andhale particularly highlights the important contributions of retired soldiers at the grassroots level, where their experience, discipline and dedication can positively influence the lives of young people and disadvantaged communities.

During the felicitation, General Dhiraj Seth commended the three veterans for their selfless service and continued dedication to the nation. He acknowledged their contributions as examples of the values, character and commitment associated with the Indian Army.
The Army Chief reaffirmed that a veteran remains a Yoddha, or warrior, even after leaving the uniform, continuing to serve society and the nation through meaningful actions and community engagement.
The Yoddha Seva Samman recognises the enduring bond between the Indian Army and its veterans while highlighting their contributions to national development beyond active military service.
Indian Army veterans have traditionally played important roles in several areas of civilian life, including education, disaster management, social welfare, public administration, security training and community development. Their military experience, leadership qualities and sense of responsibility often enable them to contribute effectively to these sectors.
The recognition of the three veterans in Ahilyanagar reinforces the message that military service represents a lifelong commitment to the values of duty, honour and service to the nation.
By honouring Brigadier Santosh Kurup, Colonel Sunil Ramdas Rajdeo and Havildar Laxman Jagnnath Andhale, the Indian Army celebrated not only their individual achievements but also the larger contribution of its veteran community towards building a stronger and more inclusive society.
The ceremony reflected the spirit of “Honour Through Action, Vijay Through Service,” emphasising that the dedication of a soldier to the country continues long after retirement from active duty.
