In a significant stride towards women empowerment and fostering talent in sports, the Indian Army unveiled plans to establish two Army Girls’ Sports Companies (AGSC) on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2024. The AGSC units will be set up at the Army Marksmanship Unit in Mhow and the Army Sports Institute in Pune, with an expected operational date of April 2024.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to identify and nurture young female talent in various disciplines including Shooting, Archery, Athletics, Boxing, and Weightlifting. By providing state-of-the-art training facilities and expert coaching, the AGSC units aspire to groom future champions who can excel at national and international sporting events.

The establishment of AGSC aligns with the national agenda of promoting sports as a means to achieve excellence on the global stage.

Through targeted training and development programs, the Indian Army aims to harness the immense potential of young girls aspiring to make their mark in the field of sports.

One of the primary objectives of the AGSC initiative is to create ample opportunities for young girls to pursue a career in sports while serving in the armed forces.

As part of the recruitment process, aspiring sportswomen will have the opportunity to join the Indian Army as Direct Entry Non-Commissioned Officers and Direct Entry Junior Commissioned Officers, providing them with a unique pathway to pursue their passion for sports while serving their nation.

The decision to establish AGSC units underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity, as well as its recognition of the invaluable contributions that women can make to the field of sports. By providing a conducive environment for women to thrive in sports, the Indian Army aims to empower and inspire a new generation of female athletes to reach their full potential.

The announcement of AGSC units on International Women’s Day serves as a fitting tribute to the indomitable spirit and resilience of women across the country.

As the Indian Army continues to champion the cause of women empowerment, initiatives like AGSC reaffirm its unwavering commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

With the establishment of AGSC, the Indian Army paves the way for a brighter, more promising future for women in sports, inspiring generations to come.
