The exercise, which saw the involvement of 16 friendly foreign countries, aimed to enhance capabilities in Maritime Interdiction Operations, Visit Board Search and Seizure procedures, and Diving operations.

Inaugurated by the President of Seychelles, the exercise witnessed dignitaries from India, the USA, and various African countries coming together to emphasize the importance of maritime cooperation and collaboration in the region. As part of Cutlass Express, the Indian Navy engaged in theoretical and practical training sessions, showcasing its expertise in maritime operations.

During the sea phase, INS Tir’s VBSS (Visit Board Search and Seizure) team conducted boarding operations on the Seychelles Coast Guard ship LE Vigilant, demonstrating seamless coordination and operational readiness.

Furthermore, joint diving operations involving Indian, US, and Seychelles divers were conducted post a rigorous training week, highlighting the spirit of cooperation and interoperability among participating nations.

The ship also hosted Rear Admiral Calvin M Foster, Deputy Commander of the US Navy 6th Fleet, who lauded the Indian Navy’s pivotal role in maritime security and cooperation in the region.

The exercise culminated with a closing ceremony held at the Seychelles Defence Academy, Ile Perseverance, on March 8, 2024, symbolizing the successful collaboration and shared commitment towards maritime security.

Earlier, INS Tir undertook joint EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) surveillance with the Seychelles Coast Guard from March 1 to March 3, 2024, further strengthening bilateral ties and interoperability.

During its stay in Seychelles, the ship engaged in professional exchanges, cross-deck visits, and friendly sports fixtures with the Seychelles Defence Forces. The Indian Naval band’s performance at the National Museum in Port Victoria drew widespread admiration from the local populace.

In addition to its operational engagements, INS Tir also undertook philanthropic activities, exemplifying the Indian Navy’s commitment to the welfare of local communities. Donations of provisions and stores for the elderly were made as part of this initiative.

During the port call, Senior Officer of the First Training Squadron, Captain Anshul Kishore, paid courtesy calls on Seychelles’ designated Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Seychelles Defence Force, and the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles.

As a gesture of goodwill and cooperation, the ship also handed over spares for Seychelles Coast Guard ships and aircraft, contributing to capacity building efforts.

The extensive deployment of INS Tir in Seychelles and its participation in Exercise Cutlass Express underscore the Indian Navy’s commitment to regional stability, cooperation, and joint training initiatives aimed at fostering interoperability and building enduring friendships with regional navies.
