Upon receiving the distress call, the Indian Coast Guard swiftly mobilized resources to provide assistance to the stricken vessel.

Utilizing a helicopter from the ICG Air Station in Chennai, an Advanced Light Helicopter Mk-III was deployed to the location of the distressed fishing vessel.

Despite the challenging maritime conditions, the ICG helicopter crew executed a flawless aerial evacuation, safely hoisting the patient from the SLFV ‘Kalpeni’ and providing immediate medical assistance on board the aircraft.

Following the successful evacuation, the patient was promptly transferred to officials from the Sri Lankan High Commission stationed in Chennai.

The patient’s swift evacuation and subsequent transfer to medical authorities underscore the effective coordination and cooperation between Indian and Sri Lankan authorities in responding to maritime emergencies.

The Indian Coast Guard’s timely and efficient response in evacuating the patient from the SLFV ‘Kalpeni’ reflects its commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and providing assistance to mariners in distress.

The sea-air rescue operation highlights the professionalism, dedication, and readiness of the Indian Coast Guard in executing complex maritime missions, even in challenging environments.

The successful evacuation of the patient from the Sri Lankan fishing vessel reaffirms the Coast Guard’s role as a reliable maritime responder and underscores its commitment to promoting safety, security, and cooperation in the maritime domain.

It also exemplifies the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in maritime search and rescue operations.

The Indian Coast Guard’s swift and effective response to maritime emergencies serves as a testament to its motto, “Vayam Rakshamah” (We Protect), and its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of seafarers and vessels navigating the waters of the Indian Ocean Region.
