Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, has assumed command of the Central Command of the Indian Army in a ceremony held today. The event took place at the SMRITIKA War Memorial in Lucknow, where Lt Gen Sengupta paid his respects to the bravehearts who have laid down their lives for the country. Following the tribute, he reviewed the Guard of Honour.
In his address to the troops, Lt Gen Sengupta called on all ranks to uphold their duties with soldierly pride and honor, emphasizing the vital role of the Central Command in national security and defense.
The Central Command, established on May 1, 1963, following the Sino-Indian war of 1962, is headquartered in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It covers a vast area, spanning across eight states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
This strategic positioning allows the Central Command to interact and coordinate closely with all other army commands, enhancing its role in ensuring the security of India’s middle sector and hinterland. Additionally, it supports the broader Indian Army with its training establishments and logistical networks, playing a crucial role in maintaining operational readiness and effectiveness.
