In a significant event held at Sainik School in Jhansi, a large-scale model of the Indian Navy destroyer ship Visakhapatnam was unveiled to celebrate Navy Day. The unveiling ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, was graced by the President of Sainik School Jhansi, who served as the chief guest for the occasion. This monumental model, the first of its kind in the Bundelkhand region, was meticulously crafted by Mazagon Dockyard Limited in Mumbai.
The model was generously gifted to the school by Commodore Vijay Shankar Babele, DSM (Retired), a respected senior patron of the National Sainik Institution’s Bundelkhand unit. The event was particularly special for the former soldiers associated with the National Sainik Institution, as it provided a platform for reflection on their contributions to the country.
During the ceremony, Commodore Babele inspired the students with a motivational address, encouraging them to dream big and set ambitious academic and personal goals as they progress through their educational journeys. His words resonated with the young cadets, emphasizing the importance of vision and determination.

The gathering included notable figures such as Colonel A K Niranjan (Retired), who presides over the National Sainik Institution’s Bundelkhand unit, along with vice-president Siddhant Dubey, treasurer honorary lieutenant Lakhan Lal Sharma, secretary Rajendra Chaturvedi, and various other officials and former soldiers. The principal of Sainik School Jhansi, teaching staff, and cadets from both Sainik School Jhansi and Sainik School Chandrapur also attended, showcasing a strong community presence at the event.
The model of the Indian Navy destroyer ship Visakhapatnam now stands as a prominent attraction at Sainik School Jhansi, symbolizing the region’s connection to the Indian Navy and its contributions to the nation’s maritime defense. This initiative aligns with the annual celebration of Navy Day on December 4, a day dedicated to commemorating the remarkable and decisive operations carried out by the Indian Navy during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. The unveiling of the model not only honors this legacy but also aims to inspire a new generation to take pride in their country’s naval heritage.
