Indian Army Women Officers

Hello Warriors! Iโ€™ve been asked that why people join the military when they can just join any MNC or corporate sector for a decent pay; why is it that people in India are willing to undergo a rigorous training and torture their bodies; why is India the largest VOLUNTARY army; what makes the army of India so unique and attractive & addictive; is it even a good career choice?

For people having this mindset, Iโ€™d like to clarify one thing: Being alive in this very moment and on this very soil is the reason enough that you owe so much to the Indian military. Without it, your MNC canโ€™t stand; without it, your economy might fall.

A career in the Defence Forces as an officer has always had a place of dignity and respect amongst the youth, though not very high on the popularity graph as a career option these days. Not withstanding the exponential growth in white collar jobs in the last two decades, the reason to a large extent also depends upon unawareness among the youth regarding the options available, service conditions and quality of life.

Let me clarify your points one by one:

WHY DEFENCE?

  • It is a service, not a job! Unlike your jobs at MNCs, defence sector gives a whole new meaning to live life. It makes you perfect both mentally and physically and gives an opportunity to serve the nation.

  • It is the ideal way to live a life. How many hours do you want to sit in front of that computer and play with your fingers? Do you know that sitting for long is also bad for your health? So, between a career which gives you physical fitness and one which makes you sit in front of a monitor for long, which one do you choose?

  • It is the best in the government sector. People opting for government services mightโ€™ve by now understood the importance of defence that it is the best way to serve the nation. It is even better than IAS, IPS or other AIS.

  • In defence, everything is based on a well-defined structure and your get promotions on a time scale basis up to a certain rank.

  • With the ongoing implementation of the 7th pay scale, defence offers a comparably good pay that increments with time whereas in corporate, salary increments only with promotions.

  • It gives you many opportunities including adventure and sports along with innumerable facilities. Beat that, MNCs!

  • The most important part, it promises job security, family security, job satisfaction and the pride of wearing the uniform and the respect you get from the society can not be matched.

  • Love for the country, zest for living in it, patriotism and adventure are the driving forces behind defence services.

One thing is totally acceptable here is that every job/service has itโ€™s own pros and cons. But the point Iโ€™m trying to stress here is that how the defence sector stands still from other career options. Who doesnโ€™t want a life that is lived serving the nation and then the nation serves you after you retire till your death? And thatโ€™s what makes the Indian army the largest voluntary army in the world.

And for those who still has a doubt, Capt R Subramanian had summed it well as:

โ€œYou have never lived until
You have almost died,
And for those who choose to fight
Life has a special flavor,
The protected will never know!!!โ€
