A Lieutenant Colonel formerly posted at Dagshai Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh has been booked by the Dharampur police for allegedly possessing forged identity documents and an unlicensed firearm. The FIR was registered on July 6 following a complaint by a junior commissioned officer from the same cantonment.
The officer is accused of cheating, forgery, and illegal possession of a firearm under Section 25 of the Arms Act. The complaint states that during a routine inspection on August 23, 2023, army authorities at Dagshai recovered a 12-bore gun and several suspicious documents from the officer’s possession. These included a driving licence, Aadhaar card, and PAN card — all featuring his photograph but reportedly issued under a different name.
A subsequent court of inquiry conducted by the army revealed that the Lieutenant Colonel had created multiple sets of fake documents under the name “Mustafa,” but with his own photograph. These duplicate identity documents raised serious concerns over impersonation, misuse of official privileges, and potential security risks.
Local police are coordinating with military authorities as part of the investigation, and further action is expected based on forensic examination of the recovered documents and firearm.
