Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the South Western Air Command (SWAC), carried out a high-profile sortie in a Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft at Air Force Station Lohegaon today. The flight reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s commitment to operational preparedness and air superiority.
With more than 35 years of service since his commissioning in 1986, Air Marshal Kapoor’s visit follows the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, India’s precision strike campaign targeting cross-border terrorist infrastructure. His sortie demonstrated not only the capabilities of the IAF’s frontline fighter but also strong leadership presence during critical periods.
SWAC, headquartered in Gandhinagar, oversees air operations across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra. It plays a crucial role in countering cross-border threats and upholding India’s air defense strategy. Air Marshal Kapoor’s prior experience as Defence Attaché to Pakistan adds strategic depth to his command in this sensitive sector.
During his visit, he interacted with air warriors at the base and commended their dedication and operational discipline. The event included a ceremonial inspection and a static display of the Su-30 MKI, a multirole twinjet aircraft developed by Russia’s Sukhoi and built in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The aircraft, capable of speeds over Mach 2, is equipped with advanced avionics, radar, and weapons systems and remains a backbone of the IAF’s combat fleet.
The visit is in line with India’s broader focus on strengthening air power and self-reliance in defense. A RAND Corporation analysis emphasized the need for continued investment in India’s aerial combat capabilities amid growing regional tensions.
By personally taking to the skies, Air Marshal Kapoor reinforced the Indian Air Force’s message of vigilance, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national security.
