The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that 1,090 personnel from Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Correctional Services have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2025.

The honours include 233 Medals for Gallantry (GM), 99 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM).
Gallantry Awards
Among the 233 Gallantry Medals, 226 have been awarded to Police personnel, six to Fire Service members, and one to HG&CD. The awards recognise rare and conspicuous acts of bravery in saving lives, protecting property, preventing crimes, or arresting criminals, often at great personal risk.
Regional distribution includes 54 recipients from Left Wing Extremism–affected areas, 152 from Jammu & Kashmir, three from the North-East, and 24 from other regions.
Service Awards
The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service is conferred for a special and distinguished record in service, while the Medal for Meritorious Service honours valuable service marked by dedication and resourcefulness.
Of the 99 PSM awards, 89 went to Police personnel, five to Fire Service, three to HG&CD, and two to Correctional Services. The 758 MSM recipients include 635 from Police, 51 from Fire Service, 41 from HG&CD, and 31 from Correctional Services.
