Hyderabadโs growing status as a center for defense innovation received a strong endorsement as Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, toured the facilities of Zen Technologies this week.
The Army Commander reviewed a range of indigenous systems developed by the company, including counter-drone technologies, loiter munitions, remote-controlled weapon systems, tactical engagement systems, advanced combat training simulators, and containerised small arms ranges. He praised Zen Technologies for its role in strengthening Indiaโs defense preparedness and boosting indigenisation.
Founded in 1993, Zen Technologies has been at the forefront of developing simulators that enhance the tactical skills and decision-making of armed forces personnel. Its innovations have proven particularly effective in cutting training costs by up to 30% compared to conventional live exercises, according to a study published in the Journal of Defense Management.
The visit comes as part of the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat push to reduce reliance on imported defense equipment. Ministry of Defence figures show a 25% rise in defense production across southern India since 2020, signaling a shift toward decentralised and technology-driven manufacturing.
Lt Gen Seth reaffirmed the Indian Armyโs commitment to deeper collaboration with domestic defense firms, calling technological absorption key to maintaining operational superiority. The development further cements Hyderabadโs reputation as an emerging hub of defense technology, challenging the traditional dominance of northern India in this sector.
