On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the 1965 Indo-Pak War, the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Mhow, hosted a special commemorative event on 01 October 2025. The highlight of the occasion was a powerful and deeply moving address by Brig Shamsher Singh, AVSM (Retd), who served as the Signal Officer of the assaulting brigade during the iconic Battle of Hajipir Pass.
Sharing his first-hand experiences from the battlefield, Brig Singh delivered a gripping and motivational account of one of the most decisive operations of the 1965 war. His narration vividly brought to life the courage, tactical brilliance, and indomitable spirit displayed by the Indian Army during the daring assault to capture Hajipir Pass a strategically vital mountain pass in Jammu & Kashmir that played a crucial role in disrupting enemy supply lines.
Addressing a multi-service audience comprising officers, cadets, and veterans, Brig Singhโs talk highlighted the tactical tenacity, audacity, and unwavering determination that characterised the Indian Armyโs operations during the war. The event served not only as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought but also as a source of inspiration for the next generation of military leaders being trained at MCTE.
The Diamond Jubilee commemoration underscored the importance of remembering Indiaโs military history and learning from the past as the armed forces continue to adapt to future challenges. The Battle of Hajipir remains a shining example of operational excellence and courage under fire qualities that continue to define the ethos of the Indian Army.
