Lieutenant General CG Muralidharan, Director General of Medical Services (Army), officially inaugurated the Department of Hospital Administration at Army Hospital (R & R) on 11 October 2025, marking a significant step forward in strengthening healthcare management within the Indian Army. The event was attended by senior medical officers, administrative staff, and other dignitaries, highlighting the importance of integrated medical administration in ensuring the well-being of Armed Forces personnel.
The newly established department is designed to oversee, coordinate, and optimise hospital operations, covering administrative planning, patient care management, resource allocation, and logistical support. By centralising administrative processes, the department aims to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of medical services to both serving soldiers and their dependents, thereby reducing delays, improving treatment outcomes, and enhancing overall patient satisfaction.
Lt Gen Muralidharan emphasized that the creation of this department is part of a broader strategy to modernise military healthcare infrastructure, integrate technological solutions in hospital management, and adopt best practices from civilian healthcare systems. He noted that streamlined hospital administration not only improves healthcare delivery but also strengthens operational readiness, as healthy and fit personnel form the backbone of the Armed Forces.
The department will also focus on training and capacity building for hospital administrators and staff, introducing structured protocols for emergency response, patient data management, and inter-department coordination. Additionally, it will serve as a hub for implementing quality assurance and audit mechanisms, ensuring that standards of care are consistently maintained across all medical services offered within the Army.
This initiative underscores the Indian Armyโs commitment to the well-being, morale, and operational efficiency of its personnel. By combining clinical expertise with robust administrative support, the Department of Hospital Administration is set to transform Army Hospital (R & R) into a model institution for military healthcare management, ensuring that soldiers and their families receive world-class, timely, and effective medical care.
