Indian Navy Launches Facebook Page

Yeah, finally. Indian Navy is on Facebook officially now. Aspirants and fans can get latest updates from Indian Navy through its official facebook page. Our armed forces are a little skeptic when it comes to social media but the trend of joining social media was started by Indian army first and today it is Indian navy who made its presence on Facebook. We wish Indian air force would join social media like twitter and facebook soon.

These official accounts are very useful, since long Indian army official Facebook and Twitter accounts are providing up to date information which helps fans and aspirants.

A message from Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff on the launch of the Official Indian Navy Facebook page.

Well before starting my experience at SSB Bangalore , I would like to inform you that I was a repeater and had got conferenced out the last time I attended ssb at AFSB Dehradun. So this time I had that most feared tag of being a repeater on my forehead.

So I started my journey from New Delhi railway station on 5th and reached Bangalore station on 8th. A bus came to take us and we were provided accommodation for the day. Next day
D+1 : we had our screening tests comprising of OIR and PPDT . Here I would suggest you to score as high as possible in the OIR since it counts in screening as well in the further process. Coming to PPDT, a hazy picture is shown and you have to write a story slight suggestion here : be very very logical and human with your character don’t make him a superhero . Effective narration and valuable points in discussion will get you screened in. In my batch 21 out of 48 got screened in.
D+2 : This is the psychology day so just be calm while you go out for these tests . They are just a simple test of what you feel just write natural stories , don’t try to be someone whom you aren’t .
Then in the lot is WAT . Try to be as possible , brief and positive in this test – these three things worked for me .
For SRT I believe quality matters more than quantity. Being natural honest and with the use of effective an intelligence, anybody can tackle them easily.
*Mind it I could do only 34 SRTs
Then is the last in the lot Self description test. This is where you express yourself and portray a positive image through parents, teachers, friends etc opinions . The fact is that don’t brag about your qualities be simplistic and outline your key weaknesses as well.

**FILLING OF HONEST PIQ FORM WILL HELP IN INTERVIEW SECTION .
D+3 : GTO1 : Gd was good , I gave 3-4 logical points in both the gd’s and also had that flexibility of mind to accept others point of view which helped me .
Then was GPE we easily came to a conclusion . Prioritizing is important . Next up are PGT and HGT , giving ideas and their proper implementation helps here . Then was group obstacle race followed by lecturette. Both of them went very well for me . Despite sore throat, I shouted war cry during GOR which motivated my team . *be logical talk sense and use English and knowledge in synchronous way to yield to maximum results in lecturette as well as maintain eye contact .
D+4 : Most important day for me as I had my personal interview as well as GTO2 including command task , individual obstacle race and final group task.
It all started with individual obstacle race which was good though I attempted obstacle no. 2 wrongly . Then was command task : I tell you folks it’s the most important determinant factor in your selection give it your best shot. Be a gentle commander , don’t order your subordinates work with them and complete the given task. Note: be justified with whom you choose as your subordinates and rest will all follow . My command task went fine and then was time for FGT which our group completed in a minute or so.

NDA SSB Recommended Candidates
Immediately after these tasks I had my personal interview with commandant of selection center , he is a major general so I was quite intimidated but somehow I calmed myself , went into his office gently and the way he interviewed me was phenomenal . There were questions from PIQ , some rapid fires on family , education, friends etc . Also were questions from General science (physics chemistry etc ) . He asked me about saarc, asean , Sco , South China Sea ,Kashmir insurgency and many more which I replied in detail. The experience was amazing and I had a great time being interviewed by him.
Now the last and most dreaded day of conference came : interestingly for me and Vaibhav , chest no. 18 conference went for a longer period. There was a discussion of around 20 minutes before calling me in and then various questions including SRTs were asked for next 15 minutes .
Came the time of results when Mam started announcing chest nos. She came up to 18 and said an “and” . My heart stopped for a moment and then she said 19 . I was blank at the moment and I filled up with mixed feelings of joy , surprise , of dream coming true and what not. I in my jubilation called out my name aloud and that was it. For next 8 days we had our Medicals and I have been declared medically fit and am just waiting for merit list .
Imp. : this is a personal advice instead of wasting time after your tasks get over sit down in front of Internet and read about things say editorials and things that will provide you knowledge . This habit helped me and may surely help you.
Regards: Shantanu Singhal

These Officer Cadets Leave Well-Paid Jobs To Join Indian Army

Jobs in the corporate sector may be lucrative but youngsters are slowly getting more attracted to the Indian army, leaving lucrative employment in law, engineering and even research.

Akshay Patil, a junior scientist in Defence Research Development Organisation, opted for the Olive Green, rather than a career in India’s premier defence research lab.
Akshay Patil, a junior scientist in Defence Research Development Organisation, opted for the Olive Green, rather than a career in India’s premier defence research lab.

Nurturing a dream to join the Army as an officer, Patil, the first commissioned officer from Jalai village in Jalgaon in Maharastra, is content with the job. “Even Abdul Kalam tried to get into the army; he failed and I succeeded,” he says with a smile.

Although this is a short service commission, the former scientist who specialised in armament research had made up his mind to opt for a permanent commission.

Even Hyderabad based Nikita could have landed in a lucrative job in the corporate sector. The girl from a humble family lived on scholarships alone after seeing her parents struggle.

“I lessened the burden of my dad and got into Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Technology through scholarship,” says Nikita. She had numerous offers but the charm of the armed forces motivated her to apply for the Officers Training Academy.

“My dream is to take care of my father as I saw him struggle throughout his life. I don’t want to get married. I want to care for my parents,” she says, eagerly awaiting the September 10 Passing out Parade, which her parents would attend.

For S Kannan, who did engineering from Rajalakshmi Engineering College in Chennai, joining the army was a career with a difference. “I had three job offers but I want something different in life,” reasons Kannan, a resident of Ponamallee. According to him awareness on careers in the defence is very low in Tamil Nadu.

This time there have been more cadets from Tamil Nadu unlike the past year. Earlier, there were only six to seven cadets but this year there are 13, said an officer with OTA.Lokesh Pant

Lokesh Pant, who had completed law from Christ University, Bangalore, and a runner-up in Moot Court competition in St Thomas University in Miami, Florida, United States, preferred the army as he wanted to use his professional skills to serve the nation.

Meet Lalitha Kanwar, Joined Indian Army As A Tribute To Her Martyred Father

Kargil  war hero’s daughter Lalitha Kanwar’s eyes would be eagerly searching for her grandmother during the September 10 Passing out Parade of the Officers Training Academy, as she will be fulfilling her mother’s dream of “returning her son back to her.”

Dressed in olive green, Lalitha, the daughter of Naik Rajvir Dan of the 15 Grenadiers, who lost his life on June 21, 2000, during Operation Rakshak in Kargil, told Express that the death of her father came as a massive blow to the family belonging to the male-dominated traditional Charan community at Nagaur in Rajasthan, where women are confined to the kitchen.

Lalitha was seven when the coffin of her father, draped in the Tricolour, was brought to her village in Nagaur. “My sister told me he won’t be coming back. But, I hardly knew what she meant. I was awestruck as visitors poured into our home. For me, it was less of sorrow and more of pride. I wanted to be like him,” she said.

“My mother nurtured me as she saw my father’s character in me”

But then things did not go well after the demise of her father. “Once the bread-winner of the family is no more, the family is lost as they don’t know what to do. I have a brother and two sisters. My mother raised me like a boy and there was opposition from the community which felt that the place for a woman was the kitchen. My mother fought back against the stereotypes but could not do it for long and we left our village for Jaipur,” recalls Lalitha.

“My mother nurtured me as she saw my father’s character in me. My brother was shy. Her goal was to nurture me and return me to my grandmother as her son. Now I have realised that dream,” says Lalitha.

However, she won’t have a chance to be at the combat zone. “I would love to be in the combat zone but then we have a policy to which we must adhere,” she says.

AFCAT 2 2016 Will Be Conducted Again?

AFCAT 2 2016 Will Be Conducted Again

If you are not aware of what is going on, have a look at our last post “AFCAT 2 2016 Question Paper LEAKED ??“. We are getting emails and facebook messages from aspirants who feel that they are cheated and they demand AFCAT 2 2016 exam to be conducted again.

Whole Story till now:

  • After the AFCAT 2 2016 exam, many candidates started sharing on social media that shift 1 and shift 2 had same question papers, everything was same in both the shifts. Shift 1 candidates interacted with shift 2 candidates and shared all the questions face to face and some of them shared it with their friends over the phone across different AFCAT centres.
  • Few candidates noticed the questions were online before the exam which we have investigated and it was not true, check here
  • Few candidates have reported that they were not allowed to give EKT even though they have applied for the technical branch. Same issues have been reported across different AFCAT centres.
  • Few candidates reported Indian air force officials were helping other candidates in the exam, which is highly disturbing for us either.

Will Indian Air Force conduct the AFCAT 2 2016 again?

  • We are not sure about it, there is no official statement till now by the Indian air force. We will keep you posted if there is anything new.

If all this is true, what could be done, what are the different options?

  • The first option is to conduct AFCAT 2 2016 again.
  • As we know it takes lots of time and money to conduct AFCAT on a huge level, IAF can conduct AFCAT 2 2016 again for the 2nd shift only. But this won’t be fair for candidates who were loyal and did not know the questions beforehand. So ignore this option.
  • If a retest is not possible, there could be different cut off for first and second shift based on the average performance.
  • Candidates who were not able to give EKT should be given other chance. If this was a technical error from IAF side and they can’t conduct the EKT exam again, IAF should pass all these candidates without the exam who were not able to give the exam due to IAF technical fault. Even if this is not possible, they must allow these candidates for AFSB (if they pass AFCAT main) and conduct their EKT exam once they get recommended.
  • IAF must investigate and punish the IAF officials helping their subordinates.
  • For next time IAF must keep different sets of question paper and strictly invigilate the whole exam.

We think, if IAF confirms this type of cheating happened during AFCAT 2016; it must conduct the AFCAT 2 2016 again because the last thing we want in the forces is a cheater.

We have emailed AFCAT Cell and DISHA asking for an official statement. We will publish it once we get a reply from IAF.

Guys  pass this message to [email protected] AFCAT Cell

Do you think IAF should conduct the AFCAT 2 2016 again? Leave your thoughts and experience in the comment section below.

AFCAT 2 2016 Question Paper LEAKED

Read till the end !! So few minutes back got an email from a defence aspirants who might have attended the AFCAT 2 2016 exam yesterday on 28th August 2016. He said there is a possibility that the AFCAT 2 2016 question paper was leaked. We thought it might be a joke but he has shared a screenshot of a website and on the comment section of that website, some guy posted few questions and answers from AFCAT 2 2016 question paper.

This unknown guy posted these questions and answers at

There are many other guys asking him how did he get the questions before AFCAT 2 2016 exam, was the paper of AFCAT 2 2016 leaked? Many guys are complaining at the AFCAT cell already.

But there is a twist in this story, follow the screenshots below.

Comments from angry aspirants
But no, AFCAT 2 2016 Paper wasn’t leaked, this all chaos happened because this so called website shows wrong timing in the comment section, for example, if you post a comment now, the timing it will show would be approx 6 hours earlier. So the person who commented these questions might have commented near 2:35 PM on 28th Aug 2016 which is perfectly fine 🙂

Guys  pass this message to [email protected] AFCAT Cell

Now this is one thing, another thing is that few websites which are not even related to defence are posting articles like ” Both 1st Shit and 2nd Shift got same paper, should IAF conduct the exam again” If you are a true defence aspirant you clearly know that since long both shifts get the same paper and there is an overlapping (timing) between both the batches so they can’t share the questions unless they talk on phone inside the exam centre which is highly unlikely.
So we request all the aspirants not to hype such things online.

*Few candidates are reporting now that 1st and 2nd Shift candidates met each other and discussed the paper. If you have experienced the same kindly comment below.
* Few candidates have reported that they were not able to give EKT exam because their name wasn’t there even though they have opted for technical branch. If you have faced the same, comment below.

Fuel Tank Dropped From A MiG-29 fighter Jet During Take-Off

Fuel tank falls off from MiG-29

A minor fire broke out on the runway of INS Dega when a fuel drop tank of a Mig-29K jettisoned accidentally while the plane was taking off on a routine training sortie on Monday, officials said.

INS Dega is a Naval air station in Visakhapatnam.

The fire was quickly doused by the ground support staff and no injuries or damage was reported, said officials, adding that the incident is being investigated.

Navy sources said one of the fuel tanks got detached while the aircraft was taking off at about 10 a.m. causing a “minor fire”.

mig 29 fuel tank dropped
Before landing, the crew dropped another fuel tank, which was empty, to equalise the weight of the plane on both sides.

The aircraft was directed to jettison the other fuel tank at sea, but due to malfunction in the system, it did not happen.

When the aircraft was coming back for landing, it jettisoned on its own in an area near the Naval base.

These tanks are additional fuel tanks on the wings of the aircraft. The second tank had to be dropped for safe landing, said sources.

Here’s The Bitter Story Of ‘War Of Generals’ Dalbir Suhag and VK Singh

1
Dalbir Suhag and VK Singh

Last week, the current chief of army staff Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag accused his predecessor Gen (retd) VK Singh of trying to stall his promotion on “false, baseless and imaginary allegations of lapses with mala fide intent” in May 2012.

In his affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Gen Suhag says that VK Singh, as the chief of army staff, sought to “victimise” him “with the sole purpose of denying me promotion to the appointment of army commander.” It was filed in response to a petition moved by Lt Gen (retd) Ravi Dastane who alleged “favouritism” in Suhag’s selection as army chief.

Here is the story behind this “War of Generals”:

This complex affair dates back to 2012 when Suhag was the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GoC-in-C) of the Dimapur-based 3 Corps in 2012. During that time, allegations were made against the 3 Corps intelligence and surveillance unit of a triple murder of militants on December 21-22.

A military intelligence official, Maj T Ravi Kumar, then wrote a letter to Suhag accusing colleagues of his intelligence unit of the triple murder of suspected militants in the unit’s officers’ mess. Suhag was stuck between all this as a person trying to save the murderers.

Suhag, in his later response said he was not even on duty on that day as he was on annual leave and rejoined duty on December 26 and Ravi Kumar claimed that Col Gopinath Shreekumar, commanding officer of the intelligence unit, was behind the killings, which were aided by Maj Rubeena Kaur Keer and Maj Nector (of 21 PARA-SF, Jorhat, who was then on probation to Intelligence Corps).

A copy of the letter was marked to Lt Gen Bikram Singh, then the eastern army commander, and VK Singh, then the army chief.

Although the army headquarters in Delhi issued explicit instructions for an investigation, only a one-man inquiry led by a brigadier was set up. This is where the mystery deepens. The brigadier was stranded as a junior officer of Suhag doing his job of inquiring the issue.

Not long after, VK Singh issued a show cause notice to Suhag halting his promotion until the time that the allegations against him were cleared.

Due to pending cases on him, Suhag could not be made the General. It is when Bikram Singh leaped for the rank.

When the government cleared the way for General Bikram Singh as army chief in 2012, trouble started for Lt-Gen Dalbir Singh. In March 2012, just two months before his retirement, General V.K. Singh asked CBI to probe Lt-Gen Dalbir Singh for alleged corruption in 2010 while he headed the highly classified Special Frontier Force (SFF). CBI refused to entertain the case stating it had already been inquired into by the cabinet secretariat under which SFF operates.Dalbir Suhag and VK Singh

The sole purpose behind this scuffle by Gen VK Singh was the principal beneficiary Lt Gen Ashok Singh, the then Southern Army Commander whose son Anirudh married General V.K. Singh’s daughter Yogja.

General V.K. Singh’s resignation later grew louder when Captain Amarinder Singh, senior Congress MP from Amritsar, called Singh’s allegations “a disgrace”. “To call a next Chief of Army Staff a criminal and those working under him in the forces dacoits is not acceptable.”

An embarrassed BJP Government rushed in to repair the damage caused by the loose tweet and the then Defence Minister Arun Jaitley told the Rajya Sabha that the appointment of Lt-Gen Dalbir Singh as army chief was final.

Jaitley’s statement brought closure to an issue that General V.K. Singh had done his best to highlight and, some say, scuttle. In April, while he was still a BJP candidate for the Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency, he opposed the UPA government’s decision to appoint Lt-Gen Dalbir Singh as army chief-designate because it violated the election code of conduct; chief-designates are appointed between two and three months before the incumbent retires. The Election Commission eventually green-lighted the appointment on May 13, clearing the decks for Lt-Gen Dalbir Singh to take over when General Bikram Singh retired on July 31.

It must be noted that, VK Singh had levelled allegations on both the incoming and outgoing Generals. While Gen Suhag was accused of saving officers who did a triple murder, General Bikram Singh found himself embroiled in an alleged fake encounter case in Jammu and Kashmir dating back to 2001 when he was a brigadier.

In February 2012, months before he moved against Dalbir Singh, V K Singh had lost his legal battle on the age row in Supreme Court which held that the government’s decision on his date of birth would apply to his service matters, prompting him to withdraw his petition.

Later on, Suhag was made the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and eventually the COAS. His promotion as GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, with effect from June 15, 2012 was cleared by General Bikram Singh who reversed the DV (Discipline and Vigilance) ban after V K Singh retired on May 31, 2012.

This delayed promotion, after reserving the vacant Army Commander’s post for 15 days, was challenged by Lt-Gen Ravi Dastane, commander of the Leh-based 14 Corps, in the Supreme Court. He contended he was eligible to be Army Commander but was denied the opportunity by General Bikram Singh who favoured Dalbir Singh despite the latter being under a DV ban at the relevant time.

The issue have ended in public acrimony, ignominious retreats for the general, and an embarrassment of the kind the Indian Army has never seen in its history.
