Ray Of Hope For Missing AN-32 Survivors: Cell Rings, ‘Last Seen’ July 26

0
AN 32 Indian Air Force

It been days since the Indian Air Force’s Missing AN-32 aircraft went missing, and there’s still not a clue about the plane and the people on board. But a ray of hope finally emerges as the family of one of the men on board claimed that the Airtel number of Airman Raghuvir Verma’s phone was ringing for a short time.

As reported by News18, they said that his Airtel number was ‘on’ and rang a few times after continuous dialling over the last two days. Also, the ‘last seen’ status on his WhatsApp messenger app was showing July 26, four days after the flight went missing on July 22.

According to Raghivur’s father, it was Raghuvir’s mother who first found out that the phone was ringing last evening. But they did not pay much attention to her and thought it to be a rant of a depressed mind. But when they called that number which remained switched off since the plane disappeared, it was ringing. “Miracles happen, don’t they?” asked Raghuvir’s emotional father.

He also added that Raghuvir was coming home on a holiday and asked his father to receive him at the airport minutes before he boarded his flight from the Tambaram air base in Chennai.

IAF and CID officials have been informed about this incident. Raghuvir’s call records will now be examined and once traced, it could give an idea about the location of Raghuvir’s phone, and eventually, his co-passengers and the aircraft.Missing AN_32 Briefing

Raghuvir was posted in Barmer, Rajasthan. It was his first posting after his training in communications in the IAF 2 years ago. His SIM card was also registered in Rajasthan.

Even though a massive search operation was launched, there is hardly any progress on tracking the missing aircraft or ascertaining the reason for its crash.

With time running out, India is seeking help from American defence forces to ascertain whether their satellites had picked up any signal before the disappearance of the plane while rubbishing the possibility of any sabotage.

An international safety network has also been activated to alert merchant ships passing through the area to look out for survivors and debris.

But big questions still raises, like

  • What if someone has found Raghuvir’s mobile and they are not certain about its source or who it belonged to?
  • Maybe, MAYBE, they are held as hostages somewhere (though it’s very unlikely because our military soldiers are not so forgiving and yielding).
  • Maybe, he forgot his phone in Barmer itself and was not carrying it with him.

Questions are more but any answers can be revealed only if authorities find any clue about the missing aircraft. What are your opinions on this?

BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur Joining Indian Territorial Army

BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur Joining Indian Territorial Army

The 41-year-old BJP MP will be commissioned into the Territorial Army (TA) as a regular officer on Friday.

Anurag Thakur Cracked SSB Interview and TA Written exam

Thakur made it to the TA after clearing an exam and a personal interview conducted in Chandigarh and training held in Bhopal. As a regular officer, the Lok Sabha member from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh will have to undergo a mandatory training. BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur Joining Indian Territorial Army

Territorial Army

The Territorial Army, the second line of defence after the regular army, is composed of volunteers who receive military training for about a month in a year so that in case of an emergency they can be mobilised for the defence of the country. Anurag Thakur will be joining the TerritorialArmy on 29th July 2016

The Territorial Army is not a profession, occupation or a source of employment. It is only meant for people who are already in mainstay civilian professions. In fact, gainful employment or self-employment in a civil profession is a pre-requisite for joining the Territorial Army.

Thakur’s grandfather was also in the army. The BJP MP wanted to join the armed forces but could not do so as his career got diverted to cricket and politics.

India’s First Women Combat Aviators: Flt Lts Gunjan Saxena And Srividya Rajan

0
Flt Lts Gunjan Saxena And Srividya Rajan

Gunjan Saxena and Srividya Rajan – names that got lost in time – names that we should have never forgotten in the first place – names of India’s first women combat aviators who went all guns blazing into the heart of the war zone that was Kargil, 17 years ago.

It’s a story that has been forgotten in the fanfare of India’s first women fighter pilots being commissioned into the Indian Air Force earlier this year being able to fly fighter jets.

And while Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena and Flight Lieutenant Srividya Rajan never flew fighter jets, they did fly through an area where Pakistani soldiers fired bullets and missiles at virtually any Indian helicopter or aircraft that they could spot.

Their tiny Cheetah helicopter was unarmed and entirely defenceless against enemy fire. And yet, like so many of their male counterparts, the two young women soldiered on, flying dozens of sorties directly in harm’s way during the 1999 war in North Kashmir.

Today, 17 years later, Gunjan told NDTV that missions where she evacuated injured Indian Army soldiers were her biggest motivation during Kargil.

Here is the story as told by Gunjan Saxena to NDTV:

Gunjan Saxena had grown up in a family of fighters ready to give their all for the nation. Even her father and brother were in the army so she decided to join the armed forces after completing her graduation from Delhi University’s Hansraj College.

During the Kargil War, Flt Lt Gunjan Saxena and Flt Lt Srividya Rajan were tasked with casualty evacuations and spotting Pakistani positions in the Kargil region. The two pilots often flew very close to Pakistani positions during the operation albeit at a height which they believed would be beyond the range of Pakistan gunners.

The battle was tense and the army needed each and every pilot of theirs during the battle. The women pilots were called in, tasked with medical evacuations, supply drops and spotting Pakistani positions in the war zone. Not worrying about the fact that their tiny Cheetah helicopters were unarmed and completely defenceless to enemy attack, the two brave hearts continued flying in and out of the danger zone in North Kashmir.

But one day, Gunjan’s chopper came under direct attack while it was positioned at the Kargil airstrip. A Pakistani soldier had fired either a rocket or a shoulder fired missile directly at her aircraft. The weapon missed her chopper thudding into the hillside behind her. Not deterred in the least, Gunjan continued her operational sorties carrying a fully loaded INSAS rifle and a revolver with her in any mission. If she had a crash landing close to Pakistani Army positions, she would fight her way out of trouble or would go down fighting. Just like her brother, an Indian Army officer who happened to be fighting in the Kargil War at the same time.Flt Lts Gunjan Saxena And Srividya Rajan

For her outstanding show of courage in the Kargil war, Gunjan was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, a gallantry award presented for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice while not engaged in direct enemy combat. She was also the first woman to receive such an honour from the army. Gunjan and Srividya never got an opportunity to fly fighter jets, but they did pave the way for others like them who wanted to fight for their country shoulder to shoulder with the men as evident today.

As a short service commissioned officer, her tenure ended after seven years. But her association with the IAF has never ended. She is now married to an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter pilot.

Burhan Wani was a designated head of a terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen & we killed him. Burhan Wani has a successor & we will kill him too in 5-6 months. For any other crime in India, there can be punishment, but this is treason aur Gaddari ki saza maut hai. Burhan Wani carries AK-47, is there a factory manufacturing AK-47 in Kashmir, where did he get them from? asks Defence Analyst & Expert on Kashmir Operations, Major Gaurav Arya (Retd) on The Newshour debate with Arnab Goswami.
