All You Need To Know About AUSINDEX

0
Indian navy exercise AUSINDEX

India and Australia will undertake their first bilateral maritime exercise – AUSINDEX in Vishakhapatnam next month. This was announced by the Defence Minister Manohar Parikar who is on his two-day visit to Australia after meeting his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith in Perth.

With this good news and the both the navies eager to know each other & their weapons well, here I bring you all that you need to know about it as a defence aspirant:

  1. This is the first ever bilateral maritime exercise between India and Australia.
  2. Three Royal Australian Navy ships and a Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C aircraft are expected to travel to India for the week-long exercise.
  3. The exercise will be held off the Vizag coast, between September 16 and 18.
  4. The joint maritime exercise between the two nations assumes significance in the backdrop of China trying to gain access to the Bay of Bengal, by cultivating naval cooperation with Bangladesh, Myanmar and military cooperation with Sri Lanka, while India is trying to strengthen its naval cooperation with her allies.
  5. The drills, first discussed a decade ago, come as global powers vie for greater influence. The Indian Ocean’s sea lanes account for almost half of the world’s container trade, including 80 percent of China’s oil imports.
  6. Though, initially, India had wanted to include Japan in the upcoming exercise, making it a trilateral, it was later decided that the exercise would be held only with Australia.
  7. Earlier, inclusion of Japan and Australia in the Indo-US annual maritime exercise — Malabar, in Bay of Bengal in 2007, had rattled China.Indian navy exercise AUSINDEX
  8. The exercise will include table top exercises, scenarios and practical demonstrations ashore, as well as a sea phase. The practice will embody list tip exercises, scenarios and unsentimental demonstrations ashore, as good as a sea phase.
  9. At sea, surface and anti-submarine warfare and coordinated anti-submarine exercises will be conducted.
  10. Significantly, the US is the main security ally of Australia, which is looking at rebalancing the Asia Pacific region and expecting India, Australia, Japan to strengthen their ties.
  11. A month later in the same waters, India and the United States will conduct drills in October-“Malabar” that U.S. Ambassador Richard Verma described as the most complex yet between the two nations. Japan has been invited to join.

Need Of Women In Police And Justice

0
Need Of Women In Police And Justice

Women accounts to about half of the population of India. But still the condition seems to be adverse for women, to come out beyond the boundaries. Gender biasing has been a headache for India from a long time and has created voids in country’s development.

A shocking report has claimed that female police counts for just 6.11 % of the total police force in India. It is better than our close neighbors like Pakistan and Bangladesh, but India lags far behind western nations. Women comprise of just about 1 lakh out of 22 lakhs of the total police force. Chandigarh has the highest percentage of 14 % and Assam has the least of 0.93 %. Talking about the higher ranks, just 1 % of higher ranks is occupied by women.

This condition has prevailed after the government has issued guidelines to have 30% of women in police force. It has also made it mandatory to have 10 female constables and 3 female sub-inspectors in every police station. But the guidelines never met the actual implementation.

12 states of India has an affirmative action plan to bolster the counts. Haryana has come up with the plan to open a women police station in all districts of Haryana. It will have two impacts on the current situation. First of all, it will raise the security and safety of women and secondly the interest of women will increase to see a separate place for them. The action was taken in order to sort out hundreds of complains received by the national commission for women regarding non-registration of their complains in police stations. Several cases of police personal involved in these activities.

Crime against women is still on the peak. Stats shows the condition as well. According to national crime record bureau, about 9000 cases of crime against women were registered in Haryana including 3500 cases of dowry harassment, 1000 rape cases and about 200 cases of gang rape. The state was criticized over the issue of women safety in assembly by the opposition.  Several women felt reluctant to file the case of their harassment or rape to a male officer and this is an obstacle in the justice. But the step taken is a way for better future of women in the state.Need Of Women In Police And Justice

Bihar has also got some good figures in this regard. Last month 800 police constables were sent for training out of which, 300 were women. Other states are also motivating women for getting into this field.

Several great examples of Indian women, scripting their names on world level have been seen. Kiran Mazumdar, Arundhati Bhatacharya and many more. Women are equally important for the development of a society as men. The only roadblock is their complete freedom and support from families that can help them to rise. Women are showing their keen interest in armed forces and are working well in all ways. Similar participation is expected in police and other departments, which plays a crucial role for providing safety to them.

All You Want To Know About The 1965 Indo-Pak War

0
1965 Indo-Pak War pic

Hello, Warriors! August 28th marks the beginning of the official anniversary celebrations of the Indo-Pak war of 1965. The month-long celebration is to honour the soldiers who fought the war. This marks the day in 1965 that India captured the Haji Pir pass, now in Pakistan Administered Kashmir. Here, I bring you some facts about the war:

  1. The Indo-Pak War of 1965 was the second conflict between India and Pakistan. The war took place after Pakistan launched a covert operation across the ceasefire line in India-occupied Kashmir, a fact that Pakistan continues to dispute to this day.
  1. The seventeen-day war caused thousands of casualties on both sides and also witnessed the largest tank battle since World War II. 128 Indian tanks and 150 Pakistani tanks (rough figures) were destroyed.
  1. At the beginning of the war, the Pakistani Army had both a numerical advantage in tanks, as well as better equipment overall. Pakistani armour was largely American-made equipped with 90 mm guns. However, recent documents released by the Indian government confirm that India had successfully captured the Haji Pir Pass (one of the main places under dispute) from Pakistan.
  1. The war remains controversial because, unlike the other wars, the Pakistan Army never really signed a surrender document. Both India and Pakistan claimed victory. However, most neutral assessments agree that India had the upper hand over Pakistan when cease fire was declared.
  1. Unlike wars since, this time the Indian Army made deep inroads inside Pakistan and destroyed several weapons and vehicles integral to the Pakistan Army.
  1. Close to a thousand tanks, on both sides, took part in the pitch battles and offensives. At the start of the war, India had one armoured division and one independent armoured brigade, along with six armoured regiments supporting infantry divisions. Pakistan had two armoured divisions, equipped with the then very modern M-48 Patton tanks. India had an equivalent tank in the Centurion, but their strength was limited to only four armoured regiments.
  1. The battle was so fierce & intense that at the end of the war, the 4th Indian Division-The Fighting Fourth, had captured about 97 tanks in destroyed, damaged or intact condition. Around 15 of them were captured by the Pakistan Army.
  1. Such was the might of the Indian Army, that it managed to push back the Pakistan Army into Lahore, and even hoisted the Indian flag in the Lahore sector, before it walked back victorious.
  1. After Pakistani troops invaded Kashmir, India moved quickly to internationalize the regional dispute. It asked the United Nations to reprise its role in the First India-Pakistan War and end the current conflict. The Security Council passed Resolution 211 on September 20 calling for an end to the fighting and negotiations on the settlement of the Kashmir problem.1965 Indo-Pak War pic
  1. The United States and the United Kingdom supported the UN decision by cutting off arms supplies to both belligerents. This ban affected both belligerents, but Pakistan felt the effects more keenly since it had a much weaker military in comparison to India.
  1. The UN resolution and the halting of arms sales had an immediate impact. India accepted the ceasefire on September 21 and Pakistan on September 22.

10 Effective Qualities Of A Team Leader

0
Indian army contingent

Hello, Warriors! India has the largest voluntary army, fourth largest air force and seventh largest navy in the world. Each of these arms of the forces are the finest and the best among themselves. They are lead by a hierarchy of leaders or the officers. However, unlike in the corporate world, the meaning of a ‘leader’ is totally different in the armed forces. It means leading from the front with first step being that of yours and not being bossy.

An effective team leader possesses a variety of traits that encourage other warriors to perform well and doesn’t impose his decisions upon them, rather stimulates a healthy, constructive and positive ‘josh’ among them. Some of the characteristics of a good team leader comes naturally to an officer such as compassion, integrity, etc. while some of the traits are acquired or come through training and experience. Apart from the set OLQs, following are some of the traits of an effective team leader:

  1. Communication: Successful team leaders communicate clearly be it verbal or written so that there is no ambiguity or room for misconception among the team members. He/she even listens to the inputs of the members and makes necessary suggestions. Koi Shak?
  2. Confidence: An effective team leader is confident in his abilities, as well as keeps faith on the abilities of the team members. A confident team leader reassures team members of his authority within the organisation and feels responsible for the decisions he takes.
  3. Delegation: Effective team leaders know how to delegate certain tasks to trustworthy team members (sub officers).
  4. Fair:  A quality team leader treats team members fairly. He is consistent with rewards and recognition, as well as disciplinary action. A fair leader ensures equality amongst his group.
  5. Facilitator: Effective team leaders are powerful facilitators as they help team members understand their goals. They also help in organizing an action plan to reach the objectives more efficiently.
  6. Influential: Influential leaders motivate team members to be highly committed and can bring in necessary changes in the workplace by gaining the confidence of fellow members through effective decision making and communication.Indian army contingent
  7. Integrity: An effective team leader is honest and open with his team members. Leaders with integrity easily gain trust of the team members because they’ll keep their words and treat others the same way they want to be treated.
  8. Negotiation: Team leader utilize negotiation skills to achieve results to overcome conflicts. They are problem solvers, negotiate effectively and facilitate quick decision making.
  9. Organisation: Effective team leaders possess excellent organisational skills which help them in setting goals and planning strategies. They allow team members to perform optimally towards meeting the set goals and objectives.
  10. Respectful: An effective team leader is respectful of his team members and encourages them to put forth their valuable inputs without hesitation.

How To Setup An Officer Like Mentality

0
How-to-setup-an-Officer-Like-Mentality

What is the difference between a boss and a leader? A boss directs and a leader leads. Several people generally ask about should they prepare for SSB before facing it. Well, the answer is YES. But preparation is not always to dust off the old books and start scanning the pages. SSB preparation is of a different kind, where you have to evolve yourself and you have to make yourself suitable for it. They don’t want a highly studious student with 90%, but they want BSc with 60% who have some OLQs and whom they can hammer according to their requirements. Some basic points are discussed below about how to set up an officer like mentality.

Self Confidence

  • Indian Army want a person who has self-confidence. From the bulk of youngsters, their requirement is for a leader like you. It is very simple to understand, when you have ever said something in front of crowd in school or college, where everyone’s eyes on you and its only you who have to come up over their expectations.

Open mind and Thoughts

  • SSB is all about the thoughts and ideas that are possessed by you. Well, god has given mind to everyone and everyone has specific thoughts. What all SSB crew wants is a person with crystal clear thoughts and and have the capability to deliver them in a sharp edge manner to the testing officers.

Mentally Strong

  • Repeaters have gone through several incidents when testing officers have tried to put pressure over them. They want a guy who can stand strong and straight in adverse conditions. Mental strength is all that matters when you confront your enemy, no matter how big your or your opponent’s count is. Best example can be seen in Laungewala battle, when some 200 Indian soldiers defeated 1000 plus Pakistanis.

Keen Listener and Observer

  • When someone orders, keep the words in mind with full information regarding the task. A keen listener never ask of repetition of question again and again and a keen observer can find out the way from the obstacles by observing them and discovering hidden paths within them.

Use on Knowledge

  • Use of knowledge always makes task much easier and time saving. Using knowledge with resources leads to victory. A leader in war not always gets the required material, weapons or resources, but he has to manage with the available resources and use them by applying mind with knowledge.

Communication Skill

  • It is not compulsory for you to talk in English, but it is compulsory to not to talk in your regional language. Most of the SSB aspirants amalgamate communication skill with language. Communication skill means to use language in an effective manner for transferring your ideas clearly to the listener.How-to-setup-an-Officer-Like-Mentality

Self-knowledge and Assessment

  • The psychology segment of SSB revolves around your self-assessment and how much do you know about yourself. So now the question is, what to do for that? All you have to do is to know about yourself. Observe your activities in your daily routine, how you react to the daily casual situations, how you tackle them. Remind the point that you have used while solving a problem or doing a daily activity. Every person has faced numerous incidents out of their daily routine. Try to commemorate that incident, how could you have done it more effectively and what mistake you have done. Don’t copy ideas of anyone else and don’t try to bluff the assessors. They are highly trained to access the crowd and have experience to examine people like you.

Let me remind you again, SSB is the only interview which don’t have any syllabus. Introspect yourself and don’t blame anybody (SSB or the recommended candidates) because blaming is a weapon of weak and confidence is the weapon of strong people.
