9 Common Mistakes Made In The Interview

9 Common Mistakes Made In The Interview

We all make mistakes every now and then, some might be big and some small. But when it comes to our job interview, even the smallest of mistake can mess everything up. Be it the SSB interview or a job interview in any other organization, one needs to make absolutely sure that there is no room for mistakes. Most of the times what happens is that the candidates become very nervous and anxious which shows in their performance during the interview, which blows their chances and opportunity of doing great in the interview.

Following are some of the common mistakes that candidates make during interviews:

  1. Poor personal appearance.
The first impression may not be the last impression but it certainly is the most important one. The interviewer comes to know a lot of things about your personality by just seeing how well you have dressed. It means that you need to look as professional and gentleman like as you possibly can. Pay special attention to this aspect since the interviewer will see you and your clothes even before you start conversing with him.
  2. Too much of “I” and “Me”.
Many people like to boast about themselves by saying “I did this, I did that” but they don’t realise that they don’t leave any room for their co-workers. Remember it’s an OLQ to be a team player. You don’t want to prove to the interviewer that you can’t work in a team, do you? So talk about group tasks and then highlight your individual contribution to the overall improvement of the group task.
  3. Being unprepared.
It is a blunder to do in any interview to show up unprepared. Imagine a candidate who can’t stop talking about how much passion and enthusiasm he has for the Armed Forces but when asked about a question pertaining to the Forces, he seems to not know how to answer to that question. If you are saying you have the passion, you need to show it as well. Just saying won’t do it.9 Common Mistakes Made In The Interview
  4. Lying
Do not ever lie in your interview. Just make it very clear to yourself that the interview is not a kid to whom you can lie and cook up stories and hope that he would believe them. He is highly experienced, he interviews candidates day in and day out and he is skilled enough to know that you are lying. That wouldn’t help you much, would it? So it’s better to come clean and tell the truth from the very beginning than to lie and portray yourself in a way that you aren’t.
  5. Not maintaining proper eye contact with the interviewer.
Not making eye contact makes the interviewer feel that the candidate lacks self-confidence. Maintaining a proper eye contact tells the interviewer that you are confident of yourself and it exhibits positivity. Also, it shows respect. You are talking to a senior, be polite enough to make proper eye contact with him.
  6. Negative body language
Not many of us notice our own body language but how we use our gestures and how our posture is during communicating with others tells them a lot of things about us. Imagine a candidate who doesn’t smile at all, uses too many hand gestures and avoids eye contact. Is such a candidate likely to be successful? Probably not. Such negative body language conveys to the interviewer that you aren’t interested, you are distracted or that you a shy individual. Pay attention to how you talk and use your hand gestures.
  7. Getting too friendly with the interviewer.
The interviewer will test you at every point of the interview. He will throw all sorts of questions at you and he might act friendly with you. He isn’t sitting there to make friends with you or other candidates. He wants to see how you react when he asks you unexpected questions or behaves in a friendly manner. So kindly bear that in mind and don’t behave too friendly with him. Maintain the decorum.
  8. Talking too much or too little.
Whatever the interviewer asks you, answer it clearly. Don’t get sentimental and go on and on, it isn’t a story telling competition. Remember that the more you speak, the more he’ll probe you. Speak that much, which is required. Don’t limit your answer to a simple yes/no. Support your answer with examples. You have to maintain a balance between revealing too much information and no information at all.
  9. Not showing that ‘you have it in you’.
You are sitting for the interview that so many people hope and dream to give. It’s because of your passion and love for the Armed Forces that you are appearing for the SSB interview. Would you not give it your 100%? A lot of candidates become nervous and aren’t able to prove and show the interviewer that you have it in you and that you are the best. You have got this chance, don’t blow it. Show the interviewer why he should recommend you.

F-16 – Another Crest Between India And Pakistan

0
F 16

F-16 has been in news from last few months. News columns and several discussions have been erupted encircling the aircraft. Being a hot topic in news, all SSB aspirant need to have knowledge of it.

Now let’s have a look at this aircraft. It is one of the most capable 4th generation fighters that can perform multi- roles. The aircraft is a single engine, multi-role fighter jet, developed by Lockheed Martin. The aircraft is currently serving in US air force and is also used by 25 other nations. Pakistan is also going to finalise a deal for buying these jets.

F-16 and F-15 are the first aircraft that can handle higher g- force then the pilot. It need higher manoeuvre and has shown its performance in surface to surface and surface to air combat mission. It is known for low cost and high performance.

Basic features of F-16 are:-

  • Length – 15 meters
  • Height – 5.1 meters
  • Wing span- about 9.5 meters
  • Top speed – Mach 2+
  • Range – more than 2000 miles in ferry range

The operational capabilities of this aircraft are enhanced by advanced weapons, precise GPS navigation, auto ground collision avoidance system and advanced sniper targeting pod.

What took it to the news?

Recently Pakistan and U.S. are struggling to finalize a deal of selling off 8 F-16 to Pakistan. Pakistan has also indicated its future motto of buying 10 more F-16 fighters. On the other hand, India took the stand and opposed the deal. Currently, the US political crew is discussing over the deal and its final approval will be announced soon.

Why Pakistan needs these planes?

Pakistan is going to retire about 200 of its planes by 2020. To meet their required count of aircrafts, Pakistan is planning to induct foreign aircrafts. Not only this, Indian’s plan to induct indigenously developed Tejas and ongoing Rafale deal is a matter of concern for Pakistan.

India’s stand on sale of F-16 to Pakistan

Just after getting the news of the sale of F-16 to Pakistan, India summoned US ambassador Richard Verma, showing its displeasure over the deal. According to India, providing such weapons to Pakistan for fighting against terrorism, will lead to arming of Pakistan against India.

Previous help to Pakistan to US

Stats reveal that US has sold military equipment worth $5.4 billion to Pakistan during a period of 2002-2014. About $30 billion was provided as aid to the Pakistan in the same period. Half of this aid was for bolstering strength for combatting terror, but India raised the point of usage of that fund for military preparation against India. India had earlier opposed the C-130 deal between US and Pakistan.

Conclusion – The final decision on this deal will raise several other issues. India is surrounded by china, which is gearing its military and Pakistan, which is getting financial and direct help to counter terrorism. But India is stressing over Pakistan’s use of those funds to build its armour against India. India need to stay alert and prepare for the upcoming scenario.

Tips To Remember While Preparing For Personal Interview In SSB

0
SSB personal interview

With the declaration of SSB dates, all candidates get involved in preparing for the SSB. They use different mediums to raise their performance quotient. For personal interviews, candidates start questioning sessions with their friends or siblings. Answering a question is not the base of SSB selection. You have to prepare in a smart way to leave a good impact over IO.

Firstly, some basic things to remember before starting the personal interview preparation are

  • Use correct word for correct message
  • Communicate smoothly and directly
  • Don’t hesitate in accepting your shortcomings or questions out of your knowledge
  • Keep a mild smile on face

Now, coming to the point, when candidates start preparing for personal interview in SSB, they just practice by answering a bunch of casually asked questions. Well, this may help you to some extent. But not entirely. For preparing in a better way, candidates should follow some points.

  1. Being Overfriendly Can Spoil The Game – Don’t get involved in a friendly conversation with IO. He will drill you to your deep. Just take the IO as a person, who is asking some questions from you, that will provide you a job. He is neither your friend, nor your relative. Being over friendly will disclose all those things which you should not.
  2. Speak What Is Asked – Whenever candidates starts practicing for the SSB interview, the first thing that they should learn is to speak what is asked. Don’t give extra details until you are told to do so. Don’t give examples of your actions without being asked by the IO. Just tell him what he wants.
  3. Criticism Is Non-Adjustability – Every candidate is asked about his relations with family, friends, teachers, relatives etc. to check his adjustability. Every person has experience of tackling bad personality in his friend circle or other groups. But keep those out of the discussions in interview. Whenever you criticize or point out mistakes or shortcomings of any other person, your non-adjustability is surfaced.SSB personal interview
  4. Listen And Respond Attentively – While practicing for personal interview, the candidate must inculcate is to grasp what is being questioned and reply according to it. Going out of the way will either trap you in your own points or will leave you in a dead end.
  5. The Interview Is PIQ Oriented – Before starting practice for an interview, just check and dissolve the PIQ in your mind. Your details must not contradict with what you are saying. Your achievements, hobbies, interests, sports, curricular activities, etc. are some of the topics that can branch more questions. So prepare for them with examples, experiences, etc.
  6. Control Your Posture And Actions – Always control your movements and posture in personal interview and conference. Excessive hand movement depicts your low confidence, shivering, sweating, shaking legs etch shows prevalence of stress and weak mind.

Except the above points, a candidate must keep some Extra things in mind to prepare for personal interview.

  • A good dress code
  • Polished shoes and be tip top personality
  • Be a gentleman, not a model
  • Your entry and exit is also scanned

Always remember one thing, a smart candidate drives the interview in the way he wants. The more you speak, the more you get entangled in your statements. So measure your words and emotions, just fulfill the requirement of the questions and think before responding.

Meet Captain Radhakrishnan Nair, Youngest Ever Recipient Of Ashok Chakra In The History Of Indian Army

0
Captain Radhakrishnan Nair

Eight-year-old Harshan was quite different from children his age. When other children wanted to be engineers and doctors, he dreamt of joining the Indian Army. While still in Class 4, he persuaded his father K Radhakrishnan Nair to admit him to the Sainik School in Thiruvananthapuram so that he could realise his dream of becoming an army officer.

At the Sainik School, he excelled both at studies and extracurricular activities. There was no game he did not play; he was captain of the volleyball and basketball teams. In Class 12, he was the school captain and the best all round cadet.

He wanted to join the National Defence Academy, but failed in the NDA interview, which his father felt was due to over-confidence. “He was always an over-confident boy,” Radhakrishnan Nair recalls.

Tasting failure for the first time, Harshan was shattered.
He had no option but to obey his father and write the entrance exam for engineering colleges, in which he did well. He joined an engineering college in Kerala, but it was not possible for the youngster to abandon his dreams. Without his father’s knowledge, he again appeared for the the NDA entrance exam, and was selected.

After he secured admission to the NDA he broke the news to his father, who was insistent that Harshan finish his engineering course before joining the army.

But Harshan would have none of it. His dreams were more important than an engineering degree. His father requested a friend, a wing commander in the Indian Air Force, to persuade his son to first get an engineering degree. After speaking with Harshan for an hour, the IAF officer told Radhakrishnan Nair, ‘If you want your son to be happy, let him join the NDA.’Captain Radhakrishnan Nair
So, Harshan had his way and joined the NDA. After finishing the NDA course, he joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. His parents travelled from Kerala to Dehradun to see him commissioned in the Indian Army. Harshan took his mother to the Balidan Mandir at the IMA and told her, ‘Amma, look at the names of the soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country. Can you see the message to their mothers? That all mothers should be proud of their brave sons. Amma, you should also be a proud mother if my name appears here…’ He was assigned to the elite paratroopers unit. In 2002, Lieutenant Harshan of the 2 Para completed his training in Kashmir. He was one of six young officers sent to Israel for special weapons training. In 2006, he was posted to Kashmir. Baramulla, March 7, 2007. Captain Harshan and his Red Devils unit captured a terrorist and recovered a cache of weapons. His commanding officer recommended Harshan for an award.

While interrogating the captured terrorist, Harshan discovered there was infiltration at Kupwara near the India-Pakistan border. He told his commanders that he would conduct a combing operation.

He spent the next two weeks in Kupwara, but no terrorist was found.

When his parents asked when he would come to see them, he used to say, ‘I am needed here. If I take leave, somebody else has to work more.’

But after the unsuccessful Kupwara operation, he applied for leave to go home.

March 20. His bags were packed and he was about to leave for Kerala when he heard that terrorists had been spotted in Kupwara.

He rushed back to Kupwara with 20 men. The mission was successful, and the Red Devils captured the terrorists.
As the unit returned from the heights, Captain Harshan was fired upon. He was hit in the thigh. He returned fire. The gun-battle continued for some time.

The captain was injured, but he stayed in charge, killed three terrorists and saved the lives of his men.

Before he could savour success, a sniper shot him in the neck.
He died, protecting our borders from our enemies.

When others his age read fiction, he read the Bhagavad Gita.

When others his age spoke about movies, he spoke about what the Gita had taught him. When others his age enjoyed the comfort of their homes, he fought terrorists in Kashmir.

Yes, this 26 year old was an extraordinary young man.
Never had his plans failed earlier. He was planning to come home, and he did come home.

Alas! home they brought the warrior dead.

Captain Harshan’s name has now been inscribed at the Balidan Mandir at the IMA, Dehradun. He is also the youngest officer to receive the Ashoka Chakra, the highest honour awarded during peace time, posthumously.

7 Tips To Handle SSB Conference

0
SSB Conference

SSB is a set of tests that takes 5 days to access the candidates and decides whether the candidate is suitable for the job or not. During preparation, candidates prepare for personal interview, GTO and psychology tests. But Conference is also a part of SSB and the stamping of final selection depends over the conference. In short, candidates should also prepare for conference. For this, we are here with some tips that can ease you in your preparation.

  1. Smiling Face – Keep a smile over your face during your conference. Don’t get into any kind of stress. All the assessors are there to conduct a short questioning drill. You just have to answer those in a simple and mannered way.
  2. Be Clear In What You Are Answering – During the conference, a candidate can be asked questions by any of the assessors. Stay alert and direct the correct answer to the correct person. Don’t get confused in the questions. The questions asked are casual.
  3. Don’t Criticize The SSB – Normally, the candidates are asked for any suggestion for changing the SSB testing criteria. You have to stay away from showing smartness by pointing mistakes or suggesting any change. The SSB testing is framed perfectly by highly experienced and qualified people. You can’t point error in testing pattern. Your criticism shows your non-adjustability.
  4. Avoid Asking Any Question Or Giving Suggestions – If you want to conclude your conference in a polite and stable manner, then avoid asking any question and suggesting anything. Your suggestion or your question will successively raise more questions and cross questioning can take you down.
  5. Maintain Posture – Maintain your posture and keep your body relaxed. But don’t lose your posture. Avoid shaking legs or shivering, walk in a gentle way and sit straight on the chair. While leaving the room, wish them “Good Day” and walk out of the door gently.
  6. Prepare The Questions That Were Asked in Interview, but not answered by you – Many times, it is observed that the questions that were asked by IO in the interview and not replied by the candidates, were asked again in the conference. It is a general way to check, how you are dedicated toward overcoming your failures.
  7. Follow the instructions given by CHM – Before commencement of the conference, CHM instructs all the candidates about where to wait before the conference, where to sit in the conference room, how to enter, how to leave etc… stick to those instructions and follow them.
