Penetrating Into Psychology [SSB Interview]

Penetrating Into Psychology [SSB Interview]

” I have a weak psychology”.

” I do not get recommended despite writing very good stories”
” I have no chances of getting selected as I have left a story blank”
Well, these are some common statements which we make about our psychology after not getting recommended. So, I thought let me have a paramount understanding of our psychology.

After a lot of deliberations and confabulations, I have come to a conclusion. This conclusion would help each one of you to drive away the stigma and specter of poor psychology.
We all are different individuals crafted very carefully by the almighty. In the same way, we all have different types of responses and reactions to the stimulus. In the SSB psychological tests the stimulus is the hazy picture, the flashed word and the situation reaction test. By having a stringent time limit, you are compelled to write the first thing which comes to your mind. You are expected to write a natural response to the situation. So, practicing TAT, WAT, SRT responses can prove to be detrimental sometimes.

SSB-stage-2-psychology-test
After having a candid discussion with a psychologist, I came to know that the objective behind the psychological testing is to ensure that the person is mentally fit. He should have no major flaws in his thought process. For eg, a person with a terrorist mindset will write certain typical responses which would be picked up the psychologist. Also a person who is very delinquent will respond in another way, or a person who if full of negativity will respond in a particular way. Most of us have a strong background and an indomitable desire to join the forces. How can we err in the psychology?
To put it straightaway, we all have good level of psychological balance. We will sail through psychology if we don’t possess any immutable or incorrigible flaws in our thinking.
So I have come to a conclusion that we are special creations of the God. We have the courage and ability to protect our nation. Therefore, it is very unlikely that we have a erroneous psychology. We just have to do better in our GTO tasks and PI. So, without worrying too much about psych, concentrate on the other tasks and the world will be at your feet.
I hope I have helped in some way or the other, stay tuned to ssbcrack for more such insightful topics.

My AFSB Experience, Recommended from AFSB 2 Mysore

2

Hello, Everybody. I hope this write up helps all the aspirants in getting recommended in their SSB(s). Well, to start it of, I am Azad Hussain, recommended from AFSB 2, Mysore, for AFCAT Jan 2015 course. It was my first attempt, and I really know how hard it was for me to get the relevant information about the whole procedure. SSBCRACK was a useful source to start from where I learned, reading all the experiences. So, I would like to do my bit in inspiring people and giving them an insight of it.
As any curious aspirant, a hundred questions keep giving birth to a hundred new, when you don’t really know clearly about the procedure. I had struggled a lot before my SSB as there were so many people who said different things about it being easy, hard, time pass, biased and stuff. But what I found out at the selection board was totally different. So, please be calm and read the following carefully. I hope it helps at least somebody.
Day 1: The day started early with Air Force vehicles coming in to pick us up from the Railway station at Mysore. By this time a large crowd had formed, with people from different backgrounds and states, flocking in for the selection.
155 was the total number of candidates that stood in a single line. To be frank, I was a little de-motivated and concerned as I looked at so many people. The reason being, everybody was dressed in their best, looking confident and smart. I really gave up hopes as I thought I had no chance whatsoever. Yes, it did give me chills of tension as to how my performance was going to be. But once we were all seated and a light breakfast was offered, we started talking to each other. Then I realized that everybody had some negatives, for example: some were totally clueless about what was going to happen, some were not as confident as they looked, some were weak in communication, etc. So the whole point is not to panic. Like they say, a book can’t be judged by its cover, so are people. You never really know what is cooking in someone’s mind. So be confident and calm. Once I figured this out, I was focused again.

My AFSB Experience

PPDT and GD:
Prior to PPDT there was an aptitude test with two question papers which was pretty easy to solve. Then there was a briefing on PPDT which was given by a Psychologist, referring to the do’s and dont’s.  One picture was shown and we were asked to write a story describing what comes to our mind. The picture is blurred and sometimes hard to figure out. The time given is 4 minutes.
TIP: I know a lot of people are concerned about PPDT as it serves an important factor for screening. But, there is no reason to panic and destroy your chances. The ppdt is supposed to test your perception skills and these skills cannot be learnt. I advise everyone not to over-practice PPDT pictures. You are supposed to think on the spot. When you practice, you are actually limiting your mind to just some possibilities. For example, you see a beautiful girl and you want to impress her. So would you go home, write a long note and go back to her or go kick start a conversation with what ever hits your mind?  So, develop your personality and work on your positivity. The ppdt story is a mirror of you. And no body can ever teach you, to be you. Trust me the most important thing is to think positive, no matter what you see. A PPDT story requires the following:

  1. A positive story (even if you see a dead body).
  2. A main character or protagonist.
  3. A 3rd person narration. (People often write it as they are in the scene).
  4. A short term goal of the story that is complete by the end of the story.
  5. The main character should be a big hearted guy. (Whatever qualities you show in the protagonist is what you are).

So yeah, 4 minutes seem long when you read this but right amidst that hall, and in between so many competitors, they are just seconds. So don’t waste your time staring at the picture. Take a quick look, observe, and start writing. The above points would do. And at the end, even if you couldn’t complete the story, just remember it.

Group Discussion:
Group discussion involves, narrating your story as your turn comes and discussing with others to reach a common story. Here the important part is the “narration”. Being as clear as you can and restricting the shivering would help in speaking fast. One important thing is to be attentive when somebody else is speaking and to look at everybody when your turn comes. As you speak, look at every candidate and be confident. No matter how different your story is; the way you narrate it would make all the difference. Once the narration is complete, the group discussion commences. Always remember, you have to give at least 4 points supporting your story. If it becomes a fish market, be the first one to calm everyone down. It shows that you can take initiative to make people listen to you. And give others a chance to speak , too.
Well, my PPDT story was totally different from the others. While everybody said they saw an athlete, I said he was a social activist. I couldn’t finish my story while writing. But I narrated it confidently. And that is what worked for me, I guess.
So at the end of the screening process, 55 people made it in while the others had to leave.

Day2: Psychological Tests.
These tests play a very, very and very important part in the selection process. And for better ssb scores, I think these test are the best things to focus at. These tests include, TAT, WAT, SRT and SDT.
TAT: A series of 12 pictures are shown, 12th one being an empty slide. The points I mentioned above for the PPDT apply here too. The pictures can be anything. Being totally positive would help a lot in this test. Remember, they don’t want a super hero or star wars story. They want a realistic and attainable approach to things. The stories you write should have a past, a present and a future (the short term goal). Start by describing your character, giving a name, then how he/she might have ended up as shown in the picture and what they did. Here, don’t give any qualities, for example; raj is smart and intelligent, etc.
My first TAT picture had a crowd that surrounded a man, lying on the ground and it looked like he was bleeding from the neck.
My story was; XYZ is a physical instructor of a school. He thought of showing children how to use the first aid kid in case of an emergency as he saw children getting hurt in the playground. So he pretended to be injured and asked the children as to what their precautionary measures would be. School staff was impressed by his efforts and they appointed him as the chief physical instructor.
So yeah, once the first picture is done, you get a good idea and your writing speed increases. Once you are positive, the rest reaches your mind easily. For the 12th slide, think of a story before hand. And here you have the freedom to pen down what you want to. So a good story in 12th slide, reflects you.
WAT:  60 words are shown, one by one, each with a 15second gap to write a sentence on it. WAT is a very simple exercise with easy words. Even here, the sentences are supposed to be positive. Even for words like attack, death, fall, etc. One key factor of these tests is to determine how long you can stay focused, in times of extreme pressure and competition. Restrict from writing big sentences. Be quick and responsive. Don’t keep staring at the word, it is not going to speak to you. Don’t miss out any word. And if you follow these, you can complete all 60 words with ease.
SRT: Situations with blanks are given in a booklet that you need to complete with proper endings. The situations are taken form real life. Always remember, the SRTs can be longer than a sentence. Sometimes it is hard to give an answer in one sentence, so go ahead and write it totally. One more thing is to be realistic and relevant. “I will call my friend and ask for a lift”, “I will fight and save them”, are some of the illogical answers. Remember, these tests are too important for you to be silly. For example, in case, a train you are travelling in is hijacked, you cannot fight with everyone and save the people. Instead, you can close down the windows and lock the doors from inside to save the compartment while calming down people, simultaneously. So be wise when you write the SRTs.
SDT: Self description is something I cannot teach you, in fact, nobody can.  You need to describe what your parents think of you, what your friends think of you, what your teachers think of you, what you think of yourself and what you would like to improve in yourself. So yeah, you know yourself better than anybody. Go ahead, describe yourself, but do not exaggerate. Be truthful and confident as you write.

Day 3: We had a day off as the other batches were having Interviews and Group Tasks.

Day 4: Interview.
Personal interview is another important aspect of SSB. Here, an official form the board interacts with you, to know you better, to understand you and to asses your personality. The interviewing official is fully aware of everything that you have done, from your PIQ’s.
PIQ or the personal information questionnaire is a form given on the first day after the screening process. This form serves as an integral part in the interview. You need to fill in your entire details which range from your family background to your schooling, hobbies, sports that you are into, achievements etc. So while filling this form one must be careful and true. The questions asked in an interview are the result of your answers in the PIQ.
So the interview starts of with the Officer asking you rapid fire questions. Be attentive, and in the best of your appearance. The posture in which you sit reflects your personality. As I mentioned before, personality is a key factor. Be neat and tidy. One more thing is to keep your eyes concentrated just on the interviewer and nothing else. And keep smiling. The interview can range from 30minutes to an hour, so you really don’t want to sit with a sad face. Answer straight forward and without any judgment.
Tips:

  1. Be neat and tidy. (Wearing a tie helps in looking professional).
  2. Do not panic or fumble.
  3. Be attentive and responsive.
  4. Be truthful. (Lying doesn’t help always).
  5. Brush up your knowledge on current affairs.
  6. Shed that sad face, sit with a smile.
  7. Don’t look at the walls. You should look only at the interviewer.
  8. Don’t use your hand while speaking. Instead, let them rest over your thighs as you sit with your back straight.

My interview was good as I kept smiling and made the interviewer laugh too, at times. And when I got up to leave, I walked up to the table to collect my documents and said, “thank you, sir”. And guess what the reply was, “Thanks Azad, nice talking to you. And yeah, I assume, your zipper is open”. We both laughed as I said, “sorry”, and pulled up my zip, right in front of him. I still laugh when I think of it. But that was a natural reaction; pulling up my zipper. So yeah, things do happen and at times, just go with the flow. Not everything needs to be perfect, remember, we are humans.

Day 5: GTO
The day started with my batch of 8 people, along with other batches, moving to two different rooms for a Group Panning Task. It consists of a model, which depicts a situation that needs to be addressed to. The model is thoroughly explained by the GTO and a paper pad is given to write the possible solution. Once the solution is written, the pads are taken back and the group discussion starts again. This time, the group should collectively form a solution.
Tips:

  1. Give at least  5 points.
  2. Give others a chance too.
  3. If your point seems valid, don’t ignore other solutions offered rather convince them how your point is more important.
  4. It’s a group task, and being selfish can cost not only you but your whole group, so listen to everybody.

Ground Tasks: (PGT, HGT and Command Task).
All the ground tasks are basically to determine how you move along the group. These group tasks need to be completed by everyone. Being selfish should again be avoided. Listen to each candidate’s ideas. Analyze the possible solutions and keep suggesting new. Support and help other candidates who aren’t speaking up. Not to boast, but during GTO, our batch was the only one to finish all 4 PGTs in the given time. Collective thinking and understanding helped us in moving the whole group as one. For this, our whole batch sat on a bed and discussed how to approach in the GTO, the pervious night.
In command task, avoid being arrogant. I have seen people who command the helpers (the candidates) like they are officers already.
Lecturette: You have to speak on a topic of your choice out of the four given ones. While you speak be confident and keep the GTO bound to your words. Even if the topic is, “My pet”, speak in such a way that everybody is hooked on to your words. One of the ways I adopted was to break my topic into sub points, and elaborating each one as I spoke. This helped me in speaking differently from others and gaining total attention of the Officer.

Day 6: Individual Task and Conference.
Individual tasks are easy and can be completed by any one who is fit.  Don’t get scared by anyone who tells you to be a total gymnast.  I could finish only 6 out of 10. But I chose the difficult ones with more points, so it helped me. And I quote my GTO here, “Don’t worry about the individual tasks, but do your best. When I was selected, I could do only 3”. Don’t be tensed if somebody did more tasks than you.

CONFERENCE: So all the hard work you do in the 6 days ends up to this. THE CONFERENCE, as people call it. One by one, each candidate is called inside a room filled with all the Officials of the Selection Board. Questions about stay and food were asked here. But for some, they ask last minute SRT’s or questions, if some officer has doubts about the selection. But that again happens rarely.
So out of the 55 who got screened in, 6 candidates, including me, were recommended. Yes, the moment your chest number is called out, sky seems to be the limit. For me it is still unbelievable as I write this because I did not prepare anything in specific like others. I just did what I do best, to be me.
In or out, SSB is a great experience altogether. I learned a lot during my stay. I interacted with so many people and made good friends with many. The best thing I would like to point out is the fact that you learn to survive without phones. And that helps to a great extent in exploring yourself.
Thanks a lot everybody for reading this with patience. I know I wrote it a bit long. But I simply did not want to write a SSB experience. I wanted people to get a total insight of how it is. I am hopeful this would help somebody. And if it does, do let me know. I would be glad and immensely happy to be a part of somebody’s happiness.
You can follow me on www.smokeofsulphur.blogspot.in
All the best, friends. And I know I mentioned this a lot of times, but yeah, POSITIVITY is all you need. Do not limit yourself by coaching and stuff. Explore, and be noticed. Thanks.

10 Reasons Why Candidates Fail In SSB Interview

7

SSB interview is one interview where it’s very difficult to make out the reason for your failure. Only a deep introspection can give you a slight hint of the reason. With the responses we get from the candidates we have tried to evaluate a few reasons for the failure of a candidate in SSB:

  1. Lack of Preparation: This is a major reason for failure in any exam. SSB is no different and lack of preparation can be a big reason for your failure in SSB. Preparations bring confidence in you.
  2. Lack of Confidence: Being confident can take you to great heights in life. Confidence speaks volumes about anybody’s personality.  The candidates who are not confident often hesitate and get under unnecessary pressure.
  3. Not listening with an open ear: The instructions that are given before every test in SSB are self-sufficient to describe what they are looking for there. If you listen to the instructions clearly you’ll get a fair idea of what the test demands and on what criteria you’ll be marked.
  4. Lack of honesty: This is one major reason why candidates fail in SSB. If you can’t be honest, you are definitely not fit to join the forces. SSB is about being brutally honest.
  5. Being over-friendly with the interviewing officer: The interviewing officers are taught to smile and be friendly with the candidates. They just want you to feel comfortable so that you end up saying everything they want to know. There are things that you would not like to share with the IO. Being over-friendly will only land you in troubled waters.
  6. No self-Knowledge: SSB is one such interview where the more you know about yourself, the more chances of success are there. A person who is not aware of what his strengths, weakness, happiest and saddest moments are, is much like to fail. When you don’t understand and know yourself, you can’t know anything better.
  7. No knowledge about the surrounding: The surrounding you live in deserves your attention as well. If you are not aware of the strength, weaknesses of your near and dear ones, about their work/studies, or about what is happening in your surrounding, you will be considered casual in your approach towards life.
  8. Dullness, non-enthusiastic attitude: A person who is cheerful and enthusiastic is liked by all. Being cheerful shows positivity, whereas if you are dull and non-enthusiastic about things, it’ll reflect negativity. You need to be excited about the tasks, it should reflect your attitude.
  9. Bullying and overconfidence: Forces are not the place where you can bully people. You need to understand that a good leader leads by example and motivates people instead of bullying them. You need to encourage your group, and not dominate them in order to appear like a real leader.
  10. If you forget to smile: If you don’t smile you are taking unnecessary tension. People who forget to smile are likely to get nervous and thus mess up the things in which they could have performed well. So you need to take a break and smile.

SELF INTROSPECTION: Gateway to Success at SSB – Part 3

Once the process of self-realisation is completed we need to perceive the weak areas strongly and try to notice why they exist in our personality and what the ways in which this could be improved? This process can take time of about a month as personality is a rigid thing and might take even more time depending on the degree of change needed. That’s why I suggest my aspirants to start early and not to wait for the end moment. Also continuously going for SSB might also not be beneficial and there are chances that the aspirant might only increase attempts and return without success. There should be a difference of about 2-3 months between SSB’s.

  • Stage 4:  Revisiting life and looking at the important events can help in two ways for aspirants, one your PI preparation is half done and the other is that you can help in knowing the loopholes of what is needed to improve and catching the root cause of your weakness. Once the root cause is removed nothing can stop you from succeeding. So follow this step diligently. Also all the steps suggested in this series of article should be followed promisingly so that success could be achieved. I wrote this article as suddenly I started receiving many queries about self-introspection and aspirants detailing their success and failure stories. Hope now the doubts are much clearer.
This will only provide you the areas that need focus and improvement for personality. Apart from this the following tips can be handy to achieve the desired responses:

  • Do not lose confidence if any weak areas come in front. Fell as if you know what needs to be improved and don’t ever think of quitting. This is the only thing that our elite defence force officers never do.
  • Don’t ever believe in myths like my friend did not performed well, but still got selected or in GD I spoke for five times but I was screened out while the person who was just smiling was selected. Please remember that selection at SSB is not instantaneous, its based on selection of many rounds that are conducted there and the assessment is severe, so nobody can just escape like this.
  • Instead of focussing on myths I would suggest to concentrate on improvement areas and excel. Time spent in your improvement will not only help in SSB selection but it would be a lifelong investment one makes on self to realise the true potential.

How to Gain Weight Before SSB Interview Medical Examination

0
ssb medical underweight treatment

“Patla papad” “lakdi” ” X Ray” and what not. You have heard these disgusting words many times, but you don’t know what to do. You really stuff yourself up to the brim, but remain the same. You have become habitual of the offensive and scornful remarks by the people of your entourage. Well, its time to get over the period of haplessness. For most of us, losing weight is an uphill task. However, gaining weight is much difficult than losing the same. It takes a disciplined and concentrated effort to achieve the desired weight.
Having a well controlled and fit body is very important for the point of view of the SSB interview. The medical guidelines for the selection in the forces are sacrosanct. Therefore, one must be within the range of the height-weight chart in order to be deemed fit for services. We will discuss certain diet and exercise tips which would enable you to gain weight in a healthy and safe manner.

DIET for Underweight
Being underweight is in no way a license to gorge on unhealthy fast foods like pizzas, burgers, puffs, pastries, noodles etc. Although you require more calories, these calories should be from a healthy source.
  1. Eat at least SIX times a day. Yes I am right, eating heavily 3 times won’t just do.
  2. Include milk shakes, peanut butter, bananas, mangoes, dry fruits in your diet.
  3. Snack on healthy items such as energy bars, fruit juices, vegetable sandwiches, pastas, etc.
  4. Cheese and paneer is a good source of nutrition for the vegetarians. While red meat, fish and eggs are an excellent and fecund source of calories for the carnivorous people.
  5. You should be eating something every 2 to 2.5 hours.
  6. Don’t take any supplement without consulting a renowned physician.
    ssb medical underweight treatment
EXERCISE for Underweight
Diet alone will never lead to propitious outcomes. Your success is hinged upon the correct combination of diet and exercise.
  1. Professional gym is the best place to be in order to gain weight. Strength training exercises are very important to give you muscle and volumes to your overall weight
  2. If you can’t go to a gym, perform strength training exercises like surya namaskar, pushups, situps at home.
  3. Contrary to the existing belief, cardio is also a must to keep the balance of the body intact. 30 mins of slow walking or cycling (slow cardio) 3-4 times a week is recommended.
  4. Focus on full body exercises than individual muscle groups.
  5. It is advised not to club cardio and muscle training together. If you are doing muscle training in the evening, do some cardio in the morning and vice versa.
Just keep calm. Gaining weight is not that difficult as it seems to be. It is just a matter of few days and you will be able to see genuine results. Multitudes have been benefited by this regime and now it is your turn. If you have any persisting doubts just drop a mail at [email protected]
Stay tuned to ssbcrack for more such information. Stay happy, stay blessed.

SELF INTROSPECTION: Gateway To Success At SSB – Part 2

0

This article is in continuation of the series of self-introspection. Once you are ready to serve and have decided to walk on this path you need to possess a lot. Not one or two, but a set of fifteen pre-defined OLQ’s in which no relaxation is given at SSB while assessing them. But God has been gracious enough to give each and every quality to every person born on this earth. An immediate thought comes in that if this is the case why are there people who are carrying illegal activities and why is not everyone then selected at SSB? The fact remains that though the qualities are present in each and every one but the degree of variation takes place once you become a part and parcel of the cruel world and you and your mind is influenced by the surroundings, happenings and the people surrounding you.

These all activities which happens a part of your life affects your mind knowingly or unknowingly. The next stage helps in protecting yourself and analysing what is there in you.

  • Stage 2: Keep your mind-set positive so that you protect yourself sufficiently and don’t lose the essence of qualities that are present in you. As suggested earlier that all the qualities are present in you during the time of birth but their degrees differed in individuals and also by the way an individual is brought up. It’s you who are responsible for yourself and mould your personality as per the need. Protecting from the negative impact helps in your personality development and thus achieving success at SSB easily. The next stage is very crucial which helps in realisation of the fact that what you possess and what more is needed.
SELF INTROSPECTION Gateway To Success At SSB
  • Stage 3:  the next thing that an individual should do before starting preparation for SSB is to self-introspect so that he/ she knows what OLQ’s are there , what are the weakness of an individual and what needs to be developed. There are specific inventories that are there in market and I also provide to my aspirants taking the mentorship for assessment of their personality which facilitate change and smoothen the way for realisation of reality which can help in improvement. These inventories are specially designed after research which can actually help in predicting the individual’s status in a group and the dynamics that take place at SSB while an individual is surrounded by people from different regions and different nature. It’s very important to perform in excellent way in individual tasks while decent in group’s tasks too at SSB.
This process of analysis can take up to fifteen days and once the report is ready the individual knows the area he or she needs to focus upon. SSB is a simple place where if you reveal your true self, no one can stop you from getting selected and the simple mantra works for at SSB. Self-realisation is a powerful tool which helps to strengthen the weak links and then the journey to wear uniform is just a matter of performance at the SSB centre. In the next part of this series which is the last one we will see that what’s next that help in facilitating change of personality and how to go about it.

Indian Navy Day 2014

Indian Navy Day 2014
Indian Navy is the naval branch of the Armed Forces of India. It is operational since 1947. Navy Day is celebrated on 4th day of December every year. 4th December is not the day on which Indian Navy was raised. 4th December is the day on which Operation Trident was launched in 1971, against Pakistan, in the Indo-Pak War. So this day is celebrated to commemorate the successful start of Operation Trident, in 1947.

Operation Trident: On 4th December, India launched a naval strike on the Pakistan Naval Head Quarters. It was a part of the war India was fighting on behalf of Bangladesh to free the latter. So on 4th December, India launched a fast naval strike on the port of Karachi. The task group for the operation consisted of three Vidyut class missile boats, INS Nipat (K86), INS Nirghat (K89) and INS Veer (K82) from the 25th “Killer” Missile Boat Squadron, escorted by two anti-submarine Arnala class corvettes, INS Kiltan (P79) and INS Katchall (P81), and a fleet tanker, INS Poshak.

Operation Trident resulted in the first use of anti-ship missiles in combat in the region, and only the second worldwide (the first being the sinking of the Eilat) as well as the first sinking of naval vessels during hostilities in the region since World War II. Overall, the Indian Navy’s missile attack was carefully planned and executed well. The attack achieved complete surprise and was a shock to Pakistan’s Armed Forces Command. A disjointed and haphazard rescue operation was launched to locate and recover survivors of PNS Khaibar, while PNHQ was not aware of the sinking of PNS Muhafiz.

Certainly Operation Trident is a landmark in India Navy’s success. It is like a feather in the cap of Navy.  It’ll be celebrated with full josh today in Vizag. Full dress rehearsals were already held yesterday. According to the sources operation display will have 20 ships, 23 aircrafts and a submarine showcasing the capability and versatility of Naval ships, submarines, aircraft and the Special Forces. The event will begin with Chief of Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral Satish Soni laying a wreath at the War Memorial on the RK Beach.

SELF INTROSPECTION: Gateway To Success At SSB – Part 1

You have to grow from inside out, no one can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”~~ Swami Vivekananda

Right said by Swamiji in that era and this is the real reality and the success path for SSB. Today let’s reveal one more secret for SSB to my dear aspirants. SSB is not a exam where you need to prepare for a year with lots of books surrounding you. There is no need of preparation but this does not mean you can go like this and stand at SSB. I am sure you be sent back with the next bus after screening. You should be familiar with the concepts of SSB, what is being looked and how you need to present yourself at SSB. No faking, nothing but yes you should spend at least three months to make yourself presentable.

You need to explore to realise what you really are and what you should be at SSB. The simple funda at SSB is to be yourself and express your life openly in front of officer. Once you try to cheat the system the system realizes it and throws you out. The assessors at SSB are well trained and are just looking for few qualities only. Yes I agree, you should be aware of the happenings in India and should have a decent aptitude to comprehend things, but this does not need any preparation, this is the least which we expect from the youth of our country. And such people are termed as responsible citizens of our country. But the reality that I am seeing these days is quite different. Aspirants approach me at the very last moment for some magic to prepare them. I am not a magician to improve personality in fifteen days. It has a streamlined process and now let’s see how to undergo self-introspection:

  • Stage 1: The process should start as soon as you realise that you want to be an officer. Officers are not created in a day. Remember after the stringent selection process they are trained in the academy for a year to convert them warriors and refine them and that’s why our defence force officers are different and can be easily identified in the crowd. If you are waiting for the last moment and want to get things easily you should be born with silver or rather I would say a golden spoon. But even if you are born that does not work in SSB. So what are you thinking start your preparation in time and prepare yourself for getting selected in the very first attempt.

C’mon don’t be eager for the uniform and the stars. Prepare yourself and think at least thousand times why you want to join this profession as it’s more than this. It’s a service rendered to the nation. If you are ready and want to prepare start with self-introspection. How to do it and what all is needed, we will try to cover in part two of this article series. So keep watching.

What To Do After Filling Forms for Defence Entry?

With December approaching along with chilling winter there are many notifications in the air that December will again open door of opportunities for the defence entrance. Aspirants! Gear up its time to get into action again. I can understand that it’s difficult to get up early, go for jog, exercise and get into fitness, but that’s the need of the hour and you have to do it if you have chosen a difficult pathway of serving our motherland. It’s gonna be anyway your daily job at Siachen. So why not start today.

Notifications for TGC-121 and AFCAT 2015 have been released by the respective forces and the forms gonna come soon in December. What should be the strategy for working after filling the forms? It’s really very easy. For direct entry the aspirants should work regularly to be fit and bring change in their core personality aspects which indeed need time. I have seen people waiting for the call letter and then stating preparation for SSB when there is hardly any time left. All AFCAT aspirants are expected to work hard for the written exam as the exam would be scheduled in February. Simultaneously the aspirants should start preparation for SSB as personality development and change is a long process and has a cycle period of about three months so work accordingly.
The few tips can quickly work for you:
  • Learn time management and decide on your priorities which can help you excel in limited time.
  • Start working over psychology as individual assessments are done there and it’s only you who need to perform at such a test. You can be decent in group performance but you need to be excellent in individual performance.
  • I have seen majorly psych defaults in case of repeaters so all those guys who belong to this category need to brush up the fundamentals of human psychology, understand the basic need and forget the preconceived ideas that are actually rubbish and blockage for their success at SSB.

  • Don’t dare wait for the last moment else it’s a waste of time going for SSB without preparation. It’s not a free trip but a dream thousands of aspirant see every day. So work proportionately to achieve.
  • All the workaholic people who want to switch their job and see dreams of defence need to take out time from their busy schedules and work on psychology as that’s the most impacted entity due to the culture you belong to. So better be aware.
Still If you have any confusion or feel the need to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to clear the myths in the minds of aspirants and remove the blockage of queries as free mind helps in best preparation and concentrating on goal.
