Save Time – All time consuming processes have been made easy as internet released burden of time. Booking e-tickets for bus or train rides or even car ride, shopping online, everything is possible without standing in a queue.
Quick Reaction – Almost all public forum have complains and grievances segment for customer support that hears the problems and complains of the customer and saves physical efforts for clearing any deal or complain.
Easy Banking and Finance – Online banking and finance facility has changed the meaning of cash transactions and shortened the queues in banks and financial buildings.
Social Connectivity – Social networking sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter Skype and many more sites have replaced the telephonic conversation, SMS letters, telegrams and even phone calls. According to a study, the popularity and steep increase in use of android has increased the internet usage by 6-8 folds.
Employment and Recruitment – Everybody is aware of online employment and army is making moves to start an online recruitment pattern on its websites. Various banking, staff selection commission and UPSC has online form submission criteria for aspirants making it easy to apply and submitting form, paying fees and getting admit card online. Many online jobs like freelancing jobs have given people new phase of earning money at home.

Cons

Censored Data – The craze and fame of internet has increased to such an extent that it is currently being used to dump all kind of data. Some uncensored clips and videos have diverted the minds of new generation. These data have left bad impact on youngsters and are also infecting teenagers.
Terror Activities – Terrorism has also made internet a medium to spread its tentacles in entire world. ISIS was seen posting ads for recruitment of IT engineers, doctors and other workers for their terror group. Even ISIS made an app which publishes the tweets of group from their Tweeter page.
Internet Bullying – Internet bullying has emerged as one of the matter of concern among new generation and has caused lot of problems.
Time wastage in social networking sites – social networking sites and apps have started consuming large fragment of productive time. Excessive use of smartphones and laptops among youngsters absorbs productive time and they unnecessarily give time to them.
Hacking and Spoofing – Use of internet has taken crime to a new level. Hacking and spoofing has made crime simpler and reduced the frequent catching of culprits and making the cases more complex. These have made national and personal security porous with rise of more crimes. National conflicts also got cybercrime as a new part of war.

Global Warming: Changes Effecting Nature

Global warming and climate change are showing some adverse effects with various new changes appearing in nature. These phenomena are well known to everybody but the studies and reports disclose the effects and impacts, they leave on the nature.

A survey released in the mid of July revealed that crop (especially wheat, rice and maize) worth $200 billion will be destroyed globally by 2050 and reason behind it was mentioned as global warming. This activity will be governed by shortening of growing season which will be caused by a rise in average temperature. The study looked at three major crops in their major growing areas. Wheat in Punjab, rice in Jiangsu (China), maize in Illinois (U.S). The danger of food security can be seen due to increased food demand and rise in temperature in upcoming decades. Crop failure and food stress will lead to the migration and will put a burden on cities.

The study also alerted that 750 million south Asians people will face extreme water shortage and by the end of 2050; 1.8 billion people will face chronic water scarcity. These are related with the ongoing limitless population expansion in south Asian nations. Some officials also made the statement that the draught conditions in south Asia will increase by 50 percent if the current conditions continue.

While the flooding rate of Ganges is predicted to be increased by six folds, a rise in 1 meter in global sea level will also increase the frequency of sea related disasters.

The signs of future calamities can be seen now and that’s why British foreign and commonwealth office has commissioned an independent multi-nation risk assessment climate change study. A similar body, the council on energy, environment and water is an independent non-profit policy research institute that gives some cautions and alerts through integrated and internationally focused approach.
Climate change has changed the conditions in land, air and water. Current situations are going worst and we can estimate the future conditions form them. Recently, an initiative by Indian government laid the base of new step to minimize the decrease in vegetation along the national highways.

Green Highway Policy

A policy to the tree line about 140,000 kms of national highways. The cost of planting the highways is estimated to be equal to the 1% of the cost of development of national highways in planting manner, covering both existing National highways and new routes. The step was taken after reviewing the bad quality and maintenance of greenery around national highways. The step will cover 97,000 kms of existing NH ways and about 40,000kms of new routes. The initiative is an offshoot of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and simultaneously boost the employment in India. The scheme would be put under the MNREGA and will give a job to the farmers and contractors. The sources cleared that some odd contractors who own nurseries, are to be given the responsibility of rooting the plants. Some local communities and NGOs are also expected to join them.

Conclusion

As the climate change is splitting its tentacles and the human race is facing a dire condition ahead. Surveys and studies can only make a fade picture of future. What all we can do is to save nature and resources for upcoming generations and for the further survival of the various species. Correct steps taken at the perfect time can show expected result. Delays always give sorrows and results are not what we expect. Time for action is Now.

The Territorial Army (TA) provides excellent opportunities for employed young men and women to join the Indian army and earn the glorious uniform.

What is Territorial Army?

The Territorial Army in India (TA) is an organization of volunteers who receive military training for a few days in a year so that in case of an emergency they can be mobilized for the defence of the country. It is a second line of defence after the Regular Indian Army; the Indian Territorial Army is not a profession, occupation or a source of employment. It is only meant for those people who are already in mainstay civilian professions, in fact, gainful employment or self-employment in a civil profession is a pre-requisite for joining the Territorial Army.

Territorial Army Eligibility Conditions

Male and Female citizens of India and Ex-service officers who are medically fit.
Age – 18 to 42 years.
Qualification – Graduate from any recognized university.
Employment – Gainfully Employed in Central Govt/Semi Govt /Pvt Firm/ Own business/Self Employed.
Serving Employees of Police/Paramilitary Forces are not eligible.

Territorial Army Training

Infantry training is carried out on urban and provincial systems.

Urban systems of training

Recruit Training: Training is carried out on weekends and holidays. Four hours of training is counted as one day. Thirty-Six days in the first year only including a camp of not less than four days if the trainee volunteers with the written consent of his employer if any.
Annual Training: A minimum of thirty-six days, with extensions up to a maximum of sixty days including a camp for fourteen days.
Post Commission Training: All officers are required to undergo ten weeks of post commission training within two years of their commissioning. Ex-officers from the Regular Army or Short Service Commissioned can be exempted from this training at the sole discretion of the Commanding Officer.
Voluntary training to gain additional military training, provided the trainee volunteers with the written consent of the employer if any.

Provincial systems of training

Recruit Training: For a continuous period of thirty days in the first year only.
Annual Training: For a continuous period of two calendar months in the first and subsequent years.
Post commission Training: Officers receive ten weeks of compulsory post commission training within two years of commissioning.
Voluntary Training to gain additional military training, provided the trainee volunteers with the written consent of his employer if any.

Territorial Army Selection Process

The selection process of the Territorial Army selection process basically three steps

Written Exam –
1. Written test duration : 2 Hours
2. Maximum marks : 100 Marks
3. Part – I of the Question paper consists of the following
- Short Essay: Essay depends on current national and international events.
- English comprehension & Language Sequencing of sentences (04 marks).
- Comprehension passage (06 marks).
- Fill in the blanks. (10 marks)

- General Awareness which consist of Economics
- Politics
- Defence
- Sports
- International Events etc.
- Reasoning –verbal/non- verbal
Preliminary Interview Board – PIB
Service Selection Board- SSB

Gainfully employed candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria can apply in response to advertisements published in leading national newspaper & The Employment News in June – July and December – January each year. Applications are to be sent to the concerned TA Group Headquarters. After processing of applications, the eligible candidates are called for Preliminary Interview Boards held at respective TA Group Headquarters (Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Lucknow). Selected candidates go through the SSB Interview, Medical Board & Police Verification. The successful candidates are granted commission by the President of India.

Ex – Defence service officers may also join the TA. The required to apply directly to Additional Directorate General of Territorial Army and appear before the Board of Officers presided by the Additional Director General of Territorial Army at New Delhi . Selected Officers are to be cleared by the Medical Boards before the officer’s ar granted commission in the TA. All such officers are given the credit of their previous commissioned service on joning the Territorial Army.

Revised Terms and Conditions of Service of SSCOs (Women both Technical and Non-Technical)

Prominent features of the revised policy are:

Extension of Tenure

Tenure of Short Service Commission. Short Service Commission (SSC), in the Regular Army will be granted for 14 years i.e. for an initial period of 10 years, extendable by 4 years.
Duration of Training. 49 weeks.

Substantive Promotion – SSCOs will be eligible for substantive promotion.

To the rank of Captain – on completion of 2 years reckonable commissioned service.
To the rank of Major – on completion of 6 years reckonable commissioned service.
To the rank of Lieutenant Colonel – on completion of 13 years reckonable commissioned service.

Officers Training Academy, Chennai

Once selected for Short Service Commission, you go to the Officers Training Academyat Chennai. Selected candidates will be detailed for training at Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai according to your position in the final order of merit, up to the number of vacancies available at the time. Duration of training is 49 weeks (approximately 11 months) training at OTA, Chennai, on successful completion of which candidates will be granted commission in the rank of Lieutenant. Ante date seniority will be granted only to Technical Graduates joining through Technical Entry.

Training at OTA is at Govt. expense All candidates who successfully complete Pre-Commission training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai will be awarded “Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies” by University of Madras. OTA training provides you with opportunities to broaden your perspective and widen your horizon. Whether it’s skeet-shooting, golf, riding or angling, at OTA you can do it all.

Officers granted Short Service Commission are liable to serve anywhere in India and abroad.

Selection for short service commission is through the Services Selection Board (SSB) and there is no written exam for this entry as on date. The candidates are shortlisted for SSB interview based on the basis of cut off percentage applied on marks obtained by the candidates’ up to 6th Semester. Courses are conducted at OTA, Chennai twice every year in the Months of April and October.

Short Service Commission (NCC) Men & Women

Officers Recruitment through this entry is advertised through the Employment News and All important National and Regional Newspapers / dailies in the months of Jun and Dec. If you have done NCC Senior Division (Army) and obtained ‘C’ certificate with minimum ‘B’ grade, you can apply through your NCC Battalion from where NCC ‘C’ certificate has been issued to you.

Short Service Commission (JAG) Men & Women

To apply for JAG Entry, you have to be a Law Graduate with minimum 55% aggregate marks in LLB Degree (Three years professional after graduation or five years after 10+2 examination). The candidates should be eligible for registration with Bar Council of India/State. Candidate should be from a College/University recognized by Bar Council of India. Permanent Commission for 340 Women Officers

Women are inducted as Short Service Commission Officers (SSCOs) in the Armed Forces. Women SSCOs re eligible for consideration for grant of Permanent Commission in specified branches in terms of Government Policy letters dated 26th September 2008 and 11th November 2011.

So far, 340 Women SSCOs have been granted Permanent Commission in the Armed Forces. State-wise details are not maintained as officers in the Armed Forces are inducted on an All India basis.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Dr. Pritam Gopinath Munde in Lok Sabha today.
