Hello! I hope my experience goes a long in helping the aspirants achieve their aim and crack their respective SSB(s). To begin with, I am Harshdeep recommended from 1 AFSB, Dehradun, for AFCAT Jan 2015 course. Since it was my first attempt it was a bit hard for me to get the relevant information about the whole procedure. SSBCRACK was a useful platform to start my preparation; I remember reading all the experiences helped me a lot. So, here I am doing my bit in inspiring people and giving them an insight of it.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Dehradun For AFCAT Jan 2015

Unlike all the other examinations or interviews there isn’t a particular kind of a preparation plan for a SSB. It has to be different for each one of you. You have to look deep into your personality and find out where you lack and what your strengths are. So although this experience can be helpful for you in order to know what actually goes on out there I would suggest you not to follow anyone else’s preparation plan and actually build up one for your own.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Day 1: The day started early as we had to report at the Dehradun Railway Recommended From 1AFSB Dehradunstation at 0630 hours. It was about half an hour long journey from there to 1AFSB. You should utilise this time to build a rapport with others as you don’t know who may end up in your group later on. Immediately after arriving at the board you are asked to fill up a few forms and begin with the tests. First up is the objective type aptitude and reasoning test. You can follow any maths and reasoning book to prepare for it as it is relatively easy and since by this time you must have already qualified in the AFCAT exam I believe it will not trouble you. Then comes the Picture Perception and Description Test. Compose yourself before you get a chance to look at the picture as you would only be able to see it for a few seconds. We got about 20 seconds before it was taken off. Identify a central character immediately and also decide a theme for your story.  Put yourself in his/her shoes and think how you would react out there.  Don’t try and write things you would not usually do in such a situation as any such lie will be caught by the assessor’s later on. It was followed by a group discussion and this is where you can actually stand out as an individual by actually performing in a group. Try to participate as much as you can give at least five relevant points in the discussion. Don’t wait for others to give you a chance to speak as the discussion can be stopped by the officer judging you at any moment. Be a team player and allow others to contribute as well. We were made to wait for a few hours before the results were announced. By this time I had already made a few friends out there. A total of 72 men got screened in. We were served lunch and were free for the rest of the day. The proceedings end at 1400 hours each day and then you are supposed to either engage in some sport or go out with your friends and explore the city and I strongly recommend you to do so.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Day 2: We had to appear in the Psychological tests on day two. Breakfast was served at 0700 hours and the tests started immediately after that. First up was WAT. I suggest you to prepare well for this one particularly as your speed matters a lot here. You miss out on one word and you will find yourselves getting confused in the next five as well. Pick up any book or a newspaper daily and start forming sentences on randomly chosen words. If you have a fellow aspirant to help you out then you can just throw random words at each other and form sentences on it. Your sentences should not only show the necessary qualities but also bring out your personality and inner self clearly. I was able to form sentences on fifty five words and missed out on five. It was followed by the SRT. Again I will say that you should write what you would actually do in real life instead of hypothesising yourself to be an action hero and end up as the laughing stock in front of the psychologist. You are expected to complete all the 60 SRT’s but then again quality is also preferred over quantity. Last but not the least was the TAT. It is the most mentally consuming amongst the other test’s as you are expected to write twelve stories one after the other with no break in between. It is somewhat similar to the PPDT so follow the same methods you did there but be mentally prepared to think and write for over half an hour. Some would actually prepare a story for the blank slide in advance and some would be a little more spontaneous and write it up on their own at that very moment after witnessing the first eleven slides. I personally did not cram up a story in advance but then again it is you who should choose your approach towards it. Officially the day ended there. We had lunch and then played for some time before heading out towards the city.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Day 3: I had my personal interview on day 3. You should look decent on this day. Wear decent formal clothes and shave your face nicely and have a good, clean haircut if you are a guy. My interview was conducted by the President of the board. I was a bit nervous going into it but fortunately I was able to shake it off before I was called in. Be yourself in front of the officer. I was truthful in most parts of the interview and I suggest you to do the same. My interview went on for about one and a half hour but it was a pleasant experience as it went on smoothly. The interviewer asked a lot of questions related to my sports background and why I did not perform well during my graduation. I knew this would come up at some point so I already knew what I had to say. I was able to escape this question as I played badminton and followed the sport professionally so I could not give a lot of time to studies during my graduation. Be very calm and composed during your interview as it could and most probably will take a complete 360 degree turn a few times. The interviewer can be very appreciative of you at one moment and can criticize you at the very next one. So I suggest you to be extremely patient. I would sum it by saying that it went really nicely for me.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Day 4: My group had our GTO tasks lined up for the fourth day. Always be in the dress code for this one. The aim should be to stand out as an individual and also be a team player and lead your team to the finish line. Do not be selfish and remember that your contribution counts only if your team is able to reach the finish line. You should bring out the leader within you in such a way that if and when a difficulty comes your team should look up to you for answers. Fortunately it did happen in my case. We were a team of eight men and I was called out as a subordinate seven times. So I think it must have made a good impression on the GTO. Preparation for the lecturette can be done only by going through newspapers daily and staying up to date with the current affairs. I think this is where I performed the best out of all the other tasks.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Day 5:  We had this day off and took the much needed rest after going through all the activities.

Recommended From 1 AFSB Day 6: The judgement day had arrived and we were all anxiously waiting for the results. By this time I was a fair bit confident as I thought that I had performed well. The results were announced and chest number thirty was announced. It was a great moment. I will probably remember it for the rest of my life. My friends came up to me and congratulated me. They were such good friends that the happiness of my selection overwhelmed the grief their unsuccessful attempt. I believe that that was a true OLQ which they displayed out there.

In the end I would like to thank all my mentors and well wishers who helped me get through it out there. My parents, friends, my trainer’s at the Olive Greens Academy and ssbcrack.com helped me a lot to achieve what I always wanted to.

I hope this goes a long way to help all of you to better understand the proceedings out there and see you out there in the prestigious uniform. Good luck and God speed.

Joining the army was a childhood dream but got my first SSB letter for Indian Navy (UES June 2015). After 48 hours of train journey I reached Vishakhapatnam. The reception party was hour late (long wait). As we reached Naval Selection Board Visakhapatnam we were allotted chest no’s (mine was 70) . We were only 79 candidates as it was an absentee batch. OIR Test was quick and soon PPDT was conducted. We had a meaningful discussion and I was confident of getting screened in. Only 29 candidates made it to stage 2. My chest no was 23.  Day 2 started quite early and we had our psychological tests.

Recommended From Naval Selection Board Visakhapatnam

After my test, I was informed of my personal interview, a quick change to formals and I headed towards nsb-ssb-interview-experiencethe board president’s room. The interview was quite casual, interesting but investigative. Each line in the PIQ form was enquired upon and my knowledge of INDIAN NAVY was tested to its limits (I answered all). The interview lasted nearly 55 min. I left the room with a smile and headed straight for lunch. Day 3 was GTO. It started with GD. We all did well and next it was GPE. After our discussion we failed to reach a common plan and chest no 28 narrated his own plan instead. Then it was time for PGT. It was quite tough and we failed to cross 3 obstacles. HGT was conducted soon after. Last was our LECTURETTE. I was satisfied with my performance of day 3. Next day started with command task. I was second one to perform the command task. Since our GTO was Ph.d in Mechanical Engg. I was asked questions way out of my league. My only answer was “sorry sir, I don’t know”. The command task proved to be an ultimate disaster. I gathered confidence and headed for individual obstacles. I performed 9/10 and was quite happy. Then were FGT and a final speech by our GTO and our day came to an end. The conference started at 10:30 in the morning (day 5). After waiting for 15 minutes outside the conference room I finally went inside. The president greeted with a big smile. Some questions on my experience and current scenario of Indian navy I was asked to leave. Waiting for results, we were all anxious. Then the psychologist came and the golden words “chest no 23, stand up, gentleman you may clap for him, and he is the only one to get recommended”. I owe this recommendation to my passion, SSBCRACK.COM and most of all to a special friend who was always there to help me. I wish all the best to future defence aspirants!!

Basics Of Group Discussion

After having discussed the psychological tests, we now come to the first part of the GTO series, the Group Discussions (GD). As mentioned earlier, communication is a pivotal aspect of one’s personality. You can make or break your career with your communication. Hence for gauging the candidate’s potential to grasp things effectively, propound his ideas coherently group discussions are conducted as a part of GTO (Group Testing Officer) series.

Basics of Group Discussion CONDUCT OF GROUP DISCUSSION

Before the start of the GTO tasks, you will be divided into a group of 8-12 individuals. A group testing Basics Of Group Discussionofficer will brief you regarding the procedure of the group discussion and will try to make you feel at ease. Generally, you will be made to sit in a semi circle according to your chest numbers.  Then the GTO will give you two – three topics for group discussion. For example India and its relations with its neighbours, the causes of corruption in our society, why the youth of this country doesn’t want to join the armed forces etc. You (Your group) will have to choose a topic of your choice. After this, the GTO will give you 15-20 minutes for the group discussion. He will say “, Gentlemen you may start speaking”.  After this caution, every group member is free to speak out his mind about the topic given. There is no moderator in the group discussion and therefore, no one will try to help you to speak. You have to take initiative to speak out. If you have spoken once you may speak again if you feel the need to. The Group Testing Officer will secretly be marking all of you from a distance. After the first group discussion, a second group discussion will take place. This time there will be no choice in the topics. The GTO will give a topic of his own and you will have to repeat the same procedure which you had done in your previous group discussion. The GTO tries to give a second chance to the candidates who haven’t spoken. He also uses this opportunity to confirm his initial evaluation/observation of candidates. In the second Group discussion too, you will be given 15-20 minutes. After this GTO will congratulate every one of you and take you towards the next task for the day.

Basics of Group Discussion IMPORTANT TIPS

  • Listen to the GTO briefing very carefully even if you are an SSB veteran. There will be hints in his speech which will come handy during the group discussion
  • Immediately start thinking on the topics which he has mentioned.
  • As soon as the GTO cautions the group to start, be ready to speak.
  • It is good if you initiate the group discussion. If you are not able to initiate the group discussion, at least try to be amongst the first 3-4 speakers. The later you speak, the greater are the chances of someone else speaking what you had thought.
  • Do not look at the GTO to ensure that he is listening to you. He is very adept at his work; it is advised that you mind your own business.
  • Listen to others carefully. You can either add to their point or refute what they had said.
  • Always think before speaking. Though people might be speaking up whatever they liked, you should not forget that you have come here to get selected as an officer in the armed forces. You should sound convincing.
  • Put forward rational and logical ideas. They will enable you to get the attention and respect of the group
  • Never get swayed away by emotions. It is GD, not a debate
  • Whatever you may do, behave like a gentleman, a future officer of the armed forces.

Friends, group discussion is a very important aspect of the whole SSB interview process. It is imperative that you do not take it lightly. To have an edge over other candidates, you must have deep knowledge about the state of country, recent happenings in and around the world and certain basic topics. It was said long ago that “, Knowledge is Power” but this holds true even today.

I hope that the concept of Group discussion is clear in your minds, kindly post your views and feedback on the comment box below. You can also contact me on [email protected] for further clarifications. Keep Visiting SSBCRACK. JAI HIND.

What To Do After Getting SSB Interview Call Letter

SSB Interview Call Letter 2015

I had been receiving many queries from the defence aspirants that they have received SSB interview call letter or have been shortlisted for a particular entry and what should they do now. I thought of answering this on a common platform so that it can be a help for larger masses. Getting a call letter is not at all a big deal. Believe me there are thousands of other people who have got SSB interview call letter but finally for a entry there would be selection of only 60 officers or the number of vacancy released for a particular entry which will definitely be across this figure. If you are not sure let me make it more clear with some data for you. There is a fight between 500 aspirants for one seat and yet I claim that SSB Interview is the easiest exam on earth for which nothing special is required except few things. We will see them now:

What To Do After Getting SSB Interview Call Letter

  1. Though preparation should start well before you receive the SSB interview call letter, but remember SSB Interview Call Letter 2015it’s never too late that you realise your mistake and start preparing instead of celebrating. It feels good to have a SSB call with increased cut off but it feels better when you get recommended and hold the joining letter. So keep celebrations for that moment.
  2. With the SSB interview call letter comes a long list of documents that you need to carry. Follow it by heart as I have seen people are not allowed even if a single document is missing. So keep original and Xerox available in plenty. Also see if attested copies are also kept in plenty.
  3. All the dresses and material that need to be carried should be taken care of in advance. Don’t panic yourself at the last moment as it can cause you for your result.
  4. Before starting any of the story writing, sentence writing or making situation reaction, you have to know about yourself, and the best tool for this is introspecting your life with respect to OLQ’s. Once this is done you will have sufficient idea of your personal strength and weakness. This is needed so that you can reflect your personality in whatever you do at SSB. Remember SSB is all about how well you reveal your personality rather than extra curricular’s, and academics.

If personality is revealed properly and you demonstrate sufficient OLQ’s no one can stop from getting recommended. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your home itself through one to one interaction through my personalised mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. SSB is all about you so don’t get trapped between the myths, learn and unlearn your personality to get success and believe me if you follow the right track you will also feel that it was easiest exam to clear. Keep up the motivation and work for your goal.

Three Essential Steps To Excel At SSB

Everybody says SSB is quit a different and I will also agree on the same because it’s an exam where personality is judged rather than other things. If you have OLQ no one can stop you in excelling in this assessment test. Many aspirants keep themselves in worry just because they feel they are not good in academics in past or they have not been able to participate in sports appreciably and they feel that this can impact their selection rate at SSB. Let me tell you all at this point of time that it’s a myth that such things increase your chances for selection or confirm the selection at the centre. If you demonstrate the needed 15 OLQ’s appropriately there is no cause of rejection. “Leave worry for what you don’t have and start worrying for what you have and can improve based on that ~~ Jayendra Pratap Singh” If you will keep on wasting what you have then you will not reach anywhere. Life has few commodities as most precious and we cannot afford to waste them. We will discuss about such things today:

Three Essential Steps To Excel At SSB

  1. Time Management: A person who knows how to play with time in his life is the most successful one. screening test ssb interviewLearn how to plan and how to tackle when it’s not available. It comes with practice and only forming schedules and respecting time can lead to success. So start with it and see how fast your success curve grows.
  2. Personality development: One who wishes to dwell different from others need to have something different. Start working on your personality as it helps in all phases of life. It involves knowing who you are and what all you are best at. Once you realise this then starts the developmental cycle. With regard to SSB they only look for 15 OLQ and believe me everyone have them. There is just a need to identify them and improve in their degree as those only differ in a civilian and an officer.
  3. Self-introspection: This is a key development tool in which we try to study life events as it is believed that the mind functionality is affected by the environment one lives in and the background one comes from. Hence once this is identified we can start focusing on improvement zones. There are tools that I have developed that helps in easy realisation and study.

These steps are really essential to start working on SSB preparation and they only help in starting preparation for SSB. I have seen aspirants starting with practice of stories, words etc. which is completely wrong. Once you know yourself and your personality it’s easy to apply in various rounds for expressing yourself. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Once good things are inherited aspirants are set to bang at the centre and come out with flying colours. Try this and see the magic!!

Tips For Sure Shot Selection In CDS SSB Interview – Part 2

CDS SSB Interview Tips

In part one we saw what are the general mistakes that aspirants commit and lose in SSB. CDS entry is one of the prestigious entries for getting into defence. Here limited people reach out for CDS SSB Interview as compared to the direct entries / other entries, so getting screened in is one of the easy chance in this entry, but this does not mean that you can do anything and would be selected. You have to reveal your potential to get in. Screening rounds are made for that only. How to do well would be the next thing that the aspirants are thinking about. It’s very simple follow these simple steps and you can make:

  • Time management: this is one of the important things for anyone but for defence aspirants time CDS SSB Interview Tipsshould be like GOD and one should know the importance of it. Even a second you waste can separate you from your goal, so plan things properly. There are certain expectations from the aspirants and that needs to be fulfilled.
  • Self-introspection: this is one of the tools that can help in self-analysis. Here important events of life are studied and you determine what are the strength and weaknesses for an individual. Once that is known the loop holes are removed from ones personality and then the things that come in CDS SSB Interview are started practicing as you have to relate your individual personality with the things done there. There are several tools that I have design and use it during mentorship for personal analysis of the individuals. If things are read from different resources there is a possibility of losing the individuality as CDS SSB Interview is all about different people. It has been seen that even different stories can be a success factor for different individuals, so believe in what you do.
  • Don’t believe in myths: I had been hearing in different mails about the myths that aspirants believe in. SSB is a place of wonders and things are judged differently. It’s not a similar selection process as it happens for various campus placement companies. So preparation is also different here and the people who are usually not selected say different things for this place. One need to save themselves from all that and consult reliable resources only.
  • Personality development: it should be taken care with regard to OLQ’s that are judged in CDS SSB Interview. Personality is very volatile and needs time for change. It also needs time to adapt from good to bad or vice versa so positive thinking during preparation and performance at CDS SSB Interview would be the tool for success.

Start working on personality and if you feel need for personal guidance from your place itself through one to one interaction/ assessment or want to clear any queries or need counselling in this regard, you can drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths. Prepare properly and go for CDS SSB Interview as I am sure it would be one of the life changing experience for each one of you.

Tips For Sure Shot Selection In CDS SSB Interview – Part 1. Few days back the result of CDS Exam has been declared and the calls for CDS SSB Interview  have also been released for few. Aspirants are gearing up for clearing CDS SSB Interview for their dream job and reach the destination where they always wanted to get trained. Let me tell you at this instance that all who have cleared the CDS Exam written should feel proud of themselves as it’s not an easy exam and the written is really tough. I would say you have win quarter of the battle but still the main battle is there in front of you. One of an aspirant mailed me specially for asking that why I usually call SSB a battle, I simply replied to him that he should face one SSB and it would be clear to him. Unfortunately he came back the very first day of CDS SSB Interview but he mailed me saying that now he understood why is it so. CDS SSB Interview is a place where everyone is not competing with each other rather they compete with themselves and believe me that is the toughest thing because for that you have to understand yourself properly and that’s not less than a battle.

Tips for CDS SSB Interview

Aspirants who have got their dates and few of them who are still waiting for it should start preparation immediately as this time is very crucial to understand yourself and detect the weak zones which need improvement. Self-introspection is the only tool that works well here and would let you know what your weak and strong points are. You need time to understand this in advance, so that you can improve things before visiting the CDS SSB Interview, hence and early start could be advantageous. Aspirants need to understand that CDS SSB Interview is not about reading variety of things or cramming the material but it’s only about your personality. CDS SSB Interview is easy for those who try to be original but yes they need to know oneself better and that analysis before going for CDS SSB Interview is really important. But now days it has been observed that aspirants are deflecting from their path in search of easy to get select ways or by believing in myths which make them worried and they start thinking in different direction which can be cause of failure certainly sometimes.CDS SSB Interview Tips

Reading material from different sources and cramming the things that come at CDS SSB Interview might lead to defect in personality which can hamper chances of your success as you might then portray a different personality which you actually are not and that’s easy to catch in psychology round. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s through introspection or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be an honour to serve those who are getting ready to serve my motherland and clear queries related to various myths. In the next part we will see how we can excel in our preparations for this entry. Keep reading on the blog.

Back To The Basics- Word Association Test

3
WAT Practice Set
WAT Practice Set

In our quest to clear all the basic doubts regarding the SSB testing procedure, we bring to you another installment. This time we will be shedding some light on the Word Association Test (WAT). The Word Association Test is the second test in the psychological test series. It is conducted immediately after the Thematic Apperception Test.

Word Association Test : METHOD

In the same projector screen where the TAT pictures were shown a word flashes conspicuously for 15 seconds. You are required to see that word and write down the first thought which comes to your mind in these 15 seconds. It is advised that one writes the response in a sentenced form. After the 15 seconds, a second word flashes on the screen for another 15 seconds and you have to write another response. This cycle continues for 60 words. In short you have 15 minutes for 60 words. Back To The Basics- Thematic Apperception Test

9
TAT-blank-slide

Greetings to our readers, we have been receiving emails regarding some elementary doubts in the SSB selection procedure. So, we have decided to clear all the doubts one by one by reiterating the procedure from the basic level. Today, we will be discussing the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) in detail. The Thematic Apperception Test is the first test of the psychological test series in the SSB interview.

Now, the dictionary meaning of ‘Apperception’ is as follows “the mental process by which a person makes sense of an idea by assimilating it to the body of ideas he or she already possesses”. In other words it is a psychological test which brings out the inner (hidden) thoughts of the individual which he/she might not normally reveal.

Thematic Apperception Test: METHOD

The candidates are made to sit in a big hall with a projector screen; all the candidates are given a booklet. A hazy picture is shown at the screen for 30 seconds; you are required analyze the picture in the 30 seconds given and frame (write in the booklet) a story around the picture in the next 4 minutes, then again you are shown a hazy picture for 30 seconds and you are required to write a new story based on the picture shown. This procedure continues till the eleventh picture and after that a 12th and final picture is projected which is generally a blank one in which you can write whatever story you want to write.
This is a time based approach which reveals the inner self of an individual quite easily. The test is based on the theory that in the construction of stories around hazy pictures, the candidate organizes material from his own personal experiences, partly as a result of the stimulus that he receives (what he finds in the picture) and partly his association with stimuli recalled from his past experiences. The psychologists read your stories and frame an opinion about your personality. As one doesn’t know how he has performed in the psychological tests, it often becomes a hard nut to crack for the aspirants.

Thematic Apperception Test: KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER

  1. THE HERO: – Each story must have a hero or the chief character with whom the writer identifies himself and who should exhibit qualities which an officer in the armed forces should possess, He should act and behave like a normal human being and not like a Superman or Spiderman.
  2. Apart from the Hero, you must identify other characters in the picture that help the hero in the execution of the task.
  3. SITUATION IN THE STORY:- Your story should contain the following features
  • What was the picture all about or what is going on in the picture?
  • How it came about or what events led up to it?
  • What will be the outcome or inference?
  1. THE PLOT:
  • It is an attempt by the hero, assisted by the other characters to organize the story by utilizing all the resources at his disposal in order to successfully solve the problem.
  • It should be pleasing and end successfully.
  • It should be self evident. The reader must not be in any doubt in the end of the story.

Thematic Apperception Test: FINAL COMMENTS

  • Relate your story to the picture; you must frame the story around the characters and the situation shown in the picture. Digression from the picture will be termed as ‘wishful thinking’.
  • Identify the problem in every story and go around getting it solved by the hero, who in turn uses the available resources to solve the problem.
  • It is advised that if the Hero is of your age, then it becomes easier for you to relate to him and write a story. However, it is not necessary.
  • Please do not write MEMORIZED STORIES. You will be caught as the memorized story won’t conform to your personality. Listen to the stimulus in your mind instead.
  • It is advised that you practice writing 10 stories daily within 4 minutes to increase your writing speed.
