G.K Boost Series – Understanding AFSPA

0

Though the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is a 56 year old act, it is a common feature of heated discussions in various news forums. AFSPA is also a common topic in the group discussions in the SSB interview. This article is an attempt to throughly apprise our readers about this frequently debated act.

BACKGROUND

The AFSPA was introduced on 11 September 1958, primarily for operation in the north east region of India. This act gives certain special powers to the Indian armed forces in the disturbed areas of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura and also the union territories Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. Later this act was extended to the state of Jammu and Kashmir in 1990. The AFSPA came into force due to the manifold proliferation of insurgents, anti-state elements and separatist groups in the above mentioned regions. These anti social elements had created a havoc in the affected regions and it become fiercely difficult for the civil authorities (Police, CISF, CRPF) to contain them. Hence, certain special powers were given to the Armed Forces (Primarily Army) to stop them to restore peace and stabilty.

 Understanding AFSPA

SPECIAL POWERS

The Officers, JCOs (Junior Commissioned Officers) and NCOs (Non Commissioned Officers) of the Indian armed forces have the following authority:

  • Use physical force or weapons to tackle any suspected insurgent in the disturbed region.
  • Occupy or destroy any property which they feel is a suspected terrorist hideout or safe haven.
  • Destroy or confiscate any type of arms and ammunition from anyone.
  • Search anywhere without warrant.
  • Arrest any person without warrant.

In addition to these, legal protection is also given to the person who acts under the AFSPA.

 Understanding AFSPA

THE DISCORD

This act was promulgated by the government in the wake of the devastating violence caused by the anti-social elements in the disturbed regions. However, despite the act being in place for several years it has not proved to be fully effective. Moreover, the people in the region see this act as a spanner in their liberty. In addition to this there were incidents where the armed forces personnel were accused of misusing their special powers to harass common public. Due to these factors there is a growing clout to abrogate this law, deeming it undemocratic and draconian. Several NGOs are also vying to revoke this law.

CONCLUSION

The people who want this law to be revoked must understand that it is the terrorists who curb their liberty and not the armed forces. If they want to live in peace, they must cooperate with the security agencies. The armed forces are not some magicians who would automatically come to know who is a terrorist and who is not. Therefore, sometimes the forces have to work on the basis of a mere suspicion which in the end might be untrue. At the same time the armed forces must ensure zero tolerance towards misuse of this law to win the faith of the people.

No country in the world has managed to fight terrorism through normal laws, certain special provisions have to be made. At last, the people of this country should not be skeptic of the motives of the armed forces rather should have faith in them to fight any type of threat to their life and property. Terrorism is a national threat and the whole country (civil + defence) must unite to deal with it.

Motivation Series – Albert Einstein

Motivation Series - Albert Einstein

Cheers to all future officers, here we present another installment of motivation series. This time we will try to understand the life of Albert Einstein and learn something from the same. Whenever we want to praise a child for his intelligence, we say “He is just like Einstein “. The word Einstein has become synonymous of brilliance. His momentous contribution to the world as a whole is something we can be proud of. But, only a few of us know that he wasn’t the Einstein we know in his early days.

Days Of Dismay

Albert was born in Germany, in a middle-class family. He did not utter a word till he was four. His parents were worried whether he would ever speak or not. He was put to a decent school but wasn’t able to read until he was seven. His school days were full of turbulence. He looked untidy, his hair was disheveled. He had arguments with his teachers, was a butt of jokes in the class. His classmates mocked him frequently, called him a ‘pig-dog’. On the whole, he was considered to be a good for nothing mentally slow child. The result was that he had to take a petty job as a patent examiner. Even as a scientist he wasn’t taken very seriously. The university of Bern turned down his PhD dissertation deeming it irrelevant and fanciful.
Motivation Series - Albert Einstein

Persistence Paid

Despite being considered insane by people, he continued his quest for the unknown. He kept his mind running, he did not stop his experiments. Only because he had faith in himself. His belief paid off finally. The world acknowledged his potential when one of his first theories of relativity got published in scientific community. The rest is history. He went on to bag the Nobel Prize for physics in 1921 for his research on theoretical physics, especially the photoelectric effect. His equation on the mass energy relation made him a hero around the masses. The worl

Moral of the Story

Einstein is considered as the father of Modern Physics. His research has helped build spaceships, satellites that travel to the space. His research is responsible for a modernised world in which we live. He managed to do all this because he had faith in himself. He was undaunted by the comments of the people. He knew one day the world will be at his feat. Similarly, we all have the ability to realise our dream. We only know what’s inside us, the world will have to bend in front of our persistence. Hence, it is time that we show the world, it is time to shut all the detractors.
I would urge all the aspirants to take a leaf out of this story and start a new beginning in order to realise your dream. Because it is never too late to reform oneself.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid”. – Albert Einstein

Why Just One Chance Is Enough

1

Greetings to all the avid followers of our website, here’s wishing each and every one a mirthful and fruitful new year. Today we would like to discuss the effect of the number of chances available for selection on the individual and why one should not pay much heed to it. There is no limit to the number of chances one can avail for selection in the services. It feels soothing to have a few chances left in the kitty. I know for a fact that most of the repeaters very carefully count the number of chances left. A few freshers also have a tendency of counting the number of attempts they can avail. Counting the number of chances available is not at all harmful but one must not get carried away even if one has many of them. There is a propensity in aspirants to think that “, Is baar nahin toh agli baar ho hi jayega”. They think that one day the tables would turn automatically and they will get recommended. Remember one thing, only persistent effort gets you to your destination. Success is not a fortuitous(accidental) phenomenon. The luck factor in the SSB is as good as a drop in the ocean.

oir test and ppdt

In the same vein, it feels demonic and demoralizing when we only have one chance left. It feels as if nothing is going to work, the long chased dream appears to be plummeting. Yes, the pressure of performance and the scourge of failure is more pronounced as compared to the earlier attempts but by becoming tense and nervous you are only increasing your chances of biting the dust. If you are serious enough about your goal, the number of chances should not tickle you much. Clearing SSB is not very difficult, it is all about applying yourself during the selection process. You only require one golden chance to wipe out all your sour memories, just one more go at the coveted uniform and that will be it. Many examples are in front us, they all convey the same thing. The number of your attempt doesn’t hold any importance to the assessors. If you have developed yourself to be suitable enough, if your personality conforms to the one they require, you are as valuable to them as any other fresh candidate.

ssbinterviewbook

The reason I dwelled on this subject was to give more strength and rigour to the aspirants, especially the repeaters. Having one last attempt is all the more reason to work doubly harder. If you want to know the value of one chance, just ask the one who has consumed up all his chances for selection. A key characteristic of an officer is that he is undeterred by failures. No one in this world has an easy life, everybody is fighting his own battles. So, to sum it up, I would reiterate that it is frivolous to waste your time thinking about the chances left. Instead, take your next chance as your last and final one. Give it your all, you live only once and once only you get a chance to realise your dream. Keep visiting ssbcrack. JAI HIND

Some Important Interview Question Categories For SSB

0

Interview has always been a common process in selection rounds for all the organisations. It’s like a selling of yourself by portraying your best to the organisation. But interview rounds at our SSB and thoda hatt ke from all this stuff. Things are psychologically judged here as the assessor would be interested to assess whether you have qualities or not. In fact all the rounds with different means would only try to assess OLQ’s and if you have them no one can stop you from getting recommended. In today’s article I would focus more on different categories of questions that could be asked to you by the interviewer. The Interview is though in your hand and you are the driver of it. You should just have the knowledge of the art to drive the PI. Also you should know how to represent yourself properly and behave with the least requirement. I will deal all these aspects separately in different articles. But let’s now concentrate on different categories that the officer can ask you. Prepare well for all of them as you never know how and what the officer will ask you.

The following are the expected categories:

  • Stress questions:  This category is specially designed to test the confidence of the candidate. Here something unrelated and not mentioned things might be asked which might not relate to your academic or personality background. Try to be confident and don’t take stress.
  • Rapid fire questions: This is the most different category where you would be asked a series of questions altogether and then you are required to answer them all in one go. Here the questions asked might vary from 8 to 15 questions in one go, so try to be alert and catch the sequence which will help you to link things with each other. Try to answer all without forgetting.
    ssb interview types of questions
  • Personality judgement questions: this category of question is usually asked in the very beginning which usually helps the candidate to get relaxed in the new environment. Please remember that you should link your personality properly in all the three rounds and portray it in the same way. This will help in you recommendation. In my mentorship program I analysed one of the mentee was posing differently in psychology and mock interviews and thus he might not be selected. We need to point and correct things and personality development needs time so start early.
  • Technical questions: this is usually asked to see if the aspirant is aware of the things he or she is reading or working on. So prepare them well.
  • General awareness:  To test the happenings in and around the world as officers are expected to keep themselves updated on latest issues. Work hard for this round.
Start early preparation and don’t keep on waiting for the call or letter. Even if its expected, start as the preparation will never go waste and will add to your personality. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries.

Decoding the Myths of SSB Interview

0

SSB is totally different from what you might hear others saying about it. Here we will be discussing the difference in what SSB really is and what you hear about it. People who have attended SSB brag it differently when they move out of the centre and these talks could deflate the motivation of new aspirants or fresher’s that have cleared the initial rounds and are waiting for their calls of SSB.  Please remember SSB is an altogether different world and it changes the personality of the person completely. When an individual goes and when he comes back even if by not getting recommended he/she is a change personality. Spending five days in that environment which shows you a bit of the lifestyle of an officer gives you energy that this is the life that a real aspirant wants.

SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

Let’s see what are the myths and the realities:

  1. You are under observation 24*7 for five days: This is true that your each and every move is studied there by expert officers. But you can relax when you are there in your dorms or while in mess, but remember an officer must not forget to follow the rules when he is not under observation. So just follow the rules of the place completely.
  2. You cannot be in touch with your family: This might be rite that your mobiles are submitted in some centres because some centres are official workplaces of the defence people too. But the telephone facility is provided through STD booth and you can call whenever you are free within calling times.
  3. Facilities are not good at the centre: All the attendees of SSB are provided with the living accommodation, fooding facilities which might not be world class but yes you only tell me which selection test provides all the aspirants with these facilities. The food quality is good and you are provided with dorms where you share room with other aspirants. Each one is provided with bedding, almirah also.
  4. If you spend more time in conference your selection is sure: This is not true. Time might be taken to discuss various parameters on the candidate and it is nowhere related to the final result.  I would only suggest giving your best in every round which will automatically fetch good results.
  5. If GTO gives a tough individual task you are high in his eyes: This is partially right but the GTO assesses individual for overall performance as all the rounds are designed to assess full personality of the person. Any singly round if accompanied with a good performance might not lead to your recommendation.
  6. You should attend all questions in Psychology: Psychology rounds have many subparts and it is a perfect time bound test, so according to me you should try to do all but if not possible to attempt all then give your best shot in whatever you attempt. You will be judged by how you attempt. You will be judged by the quality and not by the quantity. So try accordingly.
  7. You can speak whatever you want in Interview if you are smart: Believe me whosoever is judging you are far smarter than you and they will catch you like anything. So be yourself as the same set of question or qualities would be judged by different assessors though different questions and if caught at one place you will be thrown out.

What Are Assessors Looking In PPDT?

PPDT SSB Interview

PPDT is the very essential round on the first day that is of a different nature from the general assessment that happens at all the places. This marks SSB differently in league of exams. A completely or partially blurred picture is shown to the audience and then they are provided some time to reflect on mark the picture, write action and build a complete story on the picture. This is completely based on the perception of each personality. Then there happens a GD in a group of 15-20 candidates and everyone is expected to come to a common conclusion. The diversity in this game is maintained as no one in the group is ever sure what the original picture was except the assessors and what he intent to ask was?

Please remember in such cases only the right perception and the match with the individual personality helps the person to get selected as that’s the expectation there and that as the only opportunity to reveal what you really are. Nothing else can help in screening process. And forget about the already cooked up stories as the assessors very well know what they have given even though its blurred for the audience attempting it. Many aspirants have been asking me a serious problem that they have been screened out even after doing good. Now there is no real definition of good first of all and you have to be very sure that you have really done well at that place. On inspection I realised that such people have written stories they read somewhere which had no match with the real thing provided to them. The following can really help you get screen in:
  • Prepare well in advance and don’t wait till the last moment as SSB is the test of personality and through various rounds only OLQ’s are judged so don’t take it to some other dimension.
  • Self-introspection is the only thing that can help in this case as that will help you analyse what you have and what more is needed in terms of qualities.
  • Once the weak areas are identified they should be developed within proper time and hence the preparation starts here. Take all rounds seriously as slightest of the mistake can lead to rejection.
    PPDT SSB Interview
  • There are tools available for introspection which I also use in my personal analysis through the mentorship program. Such tools have been designed by me and facilitate easy analysis. It could be done on your own if someone has relevant knowledge.
  • Don’t be dependent on stories or anything written by other personality. It can be used as a base and guidance only. Please understand that every personality is different and hence one common story cannot fit all. Many a times t has been seen that one story might work for someone but not for other individual. So prepare things keeping in the fundamentals in mind.
Hope now there is somewhat clarity on what and how to start with for screening. Whole psychology is conceptual and no rocket science or ratification works there. You will be immediately caught. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Its good to ask your doubts and have clarity of concepts. Preparation becomes easy if appropriate guidance is available and it’s always a pleasure to help future officers getting ready to serve my motherland.
