How to Prepare Psychology for AFSB Interview

1
psychology test preparation

“Worry is a total waste of time. It doesn’t change anything all it does is steal your joy and keep you very busy doing nothing” ~~ Anonymous

Psychology round at AFSB is designed to test your brain waves so as to get the idea that in which direction you think. You would hear people saying that all you intend to do in a SSB is to mention heroic acts, be positive. This is not at all wrong but the excess of this myth might lead to disaster. Remember the following:
  1. Keep your mind tension free
  2. Worry is the root cause of failure
  3. Thinking good about yourself is must
  4. Self-appreciation must be practiced regularly
  5. Result oriented approach never takes you to results.

Please remember that in a AFSB where assessors are very expert and trained to read human behavior you also need to act smart and remember the mantra “Don’t try to show off, just be yourself” If you follow this simple mantra sure shot success is there. When people try to make use of their brain and try to mould and modify their thought process they are caught and rejected. Psychology round judges how much your brain resembles you and your actions which would come alive during the course of SSB. So do we need to fake here? Strictly, not… Just be you. The various rounds for Psychology are:

    • TAT: which means story writing based on your visualisation
    • WAT: framing sentences based on thought process you get after seeing words
    • SRT: Reacting to situations of daily life
    • Self-appreciation: How much you know yourself and how much you think others know about you.
 OIR Test Coaching

This simple round makes the psychology test. It’s of utmost importance to succeed in this round as it determines whether you are suited for Indian defence forces or not. Remember the following for sure shot success and ensure that you believe:

  • You are the best:  Though you might have failed several times in life, but still you are the best if you had tried sincerely for your dream Competition is stiff and there are lakhs of people running for the same thing .Not making does not mean you are bad. It simply means you need to try more as there are still people better than you. Believe in yourself and keep trying success gonna be yours. If you stop trying it simply means you lack a quality and you quit easily which simply means you are not at all fit for the defence force and it gives justification to the fact that you were not selected.
  • No word is negative if you have positive approach:  It’s the way that makes change in your perception and you become good or bad in a situation or starts getting good or bad thoughts about a thing. So see everything positively and see the magic that gets your thought process change suddenly and you would be the one enjoying each and every moment of this life.
    psychology test preparation
Nothing is tough in life; it’s the thought process that makes things tough and easy. Enjoy and be positive. At the end all the images formed by the assessor should match with what you are which leads to recommendation. Still if you feel the need of individualised assessment and mocks from your home itself through my mentoring or counselling or you have a query bothering your mind which hinders your preparation drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It’s always pleasure to resolve doubts of future officers and help them get ready to serve the motherland. It’s not just a job , it’s a profession leading to service and commitment towards every citizen of India.

GD Topic Series : Latest Defence Deals

0
indian defence deals 2015

The latest government and defence minister Arun Jately cleared deals of worth 80000 crore value which had been on hold long back. These proposals had been pending long back and once procured in coming years would add a lot of value to our defence forces. The deals that have been cleared have the following:

  1. Constructions of six new submarines armed with land attack cruise missile and independent propulsion. These submarines are of value 50000 crore for Indian navy and the best part is that these submarines would be in India with foreign collaboration.
  2. Rs. 3200 crore deal for Israeli Spike anti-tank missile has been cleared.
  3. For operations by marine commandos 2 midget chariots of value 2017 crore would also be added to the fleet.
  4. Rupees 1850 crore for marine patrol aircraft for navy that would definitely increase the security of our coastal areas.
  5. Rupees 1800 crore for combat vehicles for Army.
  6. 1436 crore for Russian urban missiles.
  7. 740 crore for railway wagons that would be helpful in transporting the tanks and ammunition’s from one place to other and would add to the swift movement of resources at the time of need.
  8. Rupees 662 crore for Radio relay container.
    Latest Defence Deals
The government feels that national security is of prime importance and once these deliveries are made and the fleet is joined our forces would become stronger. This could be an important topic that could be given in upcoming SSBs and hence I thought to brief the minute details that could be used in GD. Please remember the following when speaking in GD:
  • Always supplement what you speak with lots of examples.
  • If data could be inserted to what you speak, facts become clearer and hence weight is added and group acceptance is easy to achieve.
  • Avoid fish market situation in GD and keep working towards the common goal as a team and not as isolated body.
  • Give everyone chance and don’t keep speaking as it never leads to selection.
I would take more topics that can be part of GD discussions and would provide details that can be helpful in GD. Important topics have already been suggested by me and can be checked in previous articles by me on our website. How to deal fish market situation would be taken separately by me in another article. Still If you feel the need of individualised assessment and mocks from your home itself through mentoring or you have a query bothering your mind which hinders your preparation drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths that are present in the place. SSB is all about revealing yourself and nothing else needs to be done apart from regularly updating your knowledge and adding value to yourself.

What to Prepare after CDS Written Exam?

0
cds exam preparation

One of the most common cause of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat~~ Napoleon Hill”. Serving our motherland is far less a job but a glory that one achieves while doing so in life. Defence life is also full of adventure, fun and toughness and that’s why thousand s of aspirants always keep trying for these forces. That’s why the process to enter the forces is highly scientific and is based on testing competencies which are known as OLQ’s in defence language through various assessments spanning over five days. These OLQ’s are nothing but the traits that are needed to serve our motherland better. Hence the selection process has been made stringent and has a high rejection rate. There are various ways to enter the defence forces, some have written exam, some are direct entries but SSB is same and common for all the entries.

CDS exams are over now and one must be feeling relaxed after the hard work that aspirants have put in. But let me tell you this is not the right time to relax as written exams are only over and it’s just a way to reduce crowd and select few apt people who are then tested in SSB. The real test would be to clear SSB where you are being judged at conscious, sub conscious and unconscious level of minds. These are taken through different testing modes and are divided in three parts of GTO, PI and psychology. Remember you will be assessed by different assessors and different competencies are being assessed every time so that there is no chance to make mistakes in analysing candidates. The following things are needed for preparation now:
  • Start working on your personality as I have seen people waiting for the result but then preparation time is very less and full improvements cannot be done.
  • Psychology needs time to bring about a change in personality and adapt the new measures by the experts. Always look for individual guidance as your personality is quite different from others so everything while learning also cannot be clubbed together.
  • I have seen my mentees struggling with stories in TAT or PPDT and writing things as per the myths that they hear from their friends. It does not work that way. Few essential elements should be there. Apart from that you should something that reflects you in a true sense and only your OLQ’s
    cds exam preparation
  • Improve your communication as it is sufficient to build the very first good impression. Start practicing things now and take mock tests under guidance.
  • General awareness is something that needs a huge time to prepare because of its boundary less syllabus and value. Start if immediately after the CDS exam and keep adding to your knowledge base.
  • Keep your body fit and exercise regularly from now onwards. What all you would do after getting call letter? Don’t wait for the last moment as officers don’t do that. It’s better to start some things early.
  • And please spend time in analysing your personality, if you feel any difficulty take the help of experts who are having time to guide you on one to one basis.
 OIR Test Coaching

Don’t rest and waste time. You have to work hard for your dream and then only the possibility of clearing SSB would be a reality. Good things are achieved only through hard work. Still If you feel the need of individualised assessment and mocks from your home itself through mentoring, counseling that I provide or you have a query bothering your mind which hinders your preparation drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths that are present in the place and help you identify the right path.

Role of Communication Skills in a GD

0
group discussion

GD is a selection parameter for almost all good exams and this test judges a lot many things of the candidates. Effectively GD judges 3-4 OLQ’s in one go for a candidate. So GD could be a good opportunity to prove yourself and your qualities which no doubt would be tested through other tests in the series. What and how should a GD be done has already been cleared in my previous articles. In this article I will focus more on what is the role of effective communication.

Communication is really very important as it leads to a clear flow of data in the group and everybody contributes to get the problem resolved or discuss the minute of the details for the topic given. Communication does not simply means speaking good English, a lot more is needed for this. The member having effective communication skill should have the clear idea of what the topic is all about and what and how to represent the data for it. The data flow in a particular order is the most important so that the clear information flows from one end to the other. Also in this manner his points would be accepted by the group and more additions to the information could be done. The following could be helpful:
  • Effective communication can lead to attention of the group and group member acceptance builds in. This is a very essential quality of a person because during the time of crisis one should be radically accepted by the group so that the team performs well in the time of crisis.
  • Also every time a person speaks there should be a value add in the discussion and not just speaking skills are being shown. If value addition is felt, members will go along and this can work in positive direction for the aspirants.
  • GD and debate are always different. There you can hold a motion and continuously speak for the motion or against, but in GD a clear viewpoint needs to be established related to the topic.
  • Supplement points with examples and happenings of the world so that every member can relate to it.
  • Even if you want to interfere or say something in between say using words like excuse- me or please listen gentlemen or i agree with you, but…. Using these add an emotional value and works for your advantage.
    group discussion
At the end GTO would ask someone to conclude and the leader is chosen by the group consent, so work accordingly so that you could be the one. Body language is very important and I would deal it in a separate article. Still If you feel the need of individualised assessment and mocks that can be taken from your home itself through my mentoring program or you have a query bothering your mind which hinders your preparation drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths that are present in the place. Believe in yourself and it really works magical in SSB.

Infantry Day Indian Army

infantry day

Today, on 27th of October 2014, India is celebrating her 68th Infantry Day. It was on this momentous day in 1947, when the princely State of Jammu and Kashmir was under attack by the tribal raiders supported by the troops of the newly formed Pakistani Army, that the first Infantry contingent of Indian Army, the troops of the 1 SIKH Infantry Battalion, landed at Srinagar Airfield and fought a courageous battle to liberate the Kashmir valley from the intruders. To commemorate this gallant action by the Infantry, October 27 is celebrated as the Infantry Day.

Infantry is the branch of military which fights on foot. They directly engage, fight and defeat the enemy in face-to-face combat. They generally undergo a more difficult level of rigorous and continuous training, both physical and psychological. Since they always have a face to face fight with the enemy, they suffer the maximum number of casualties, which never affects their performance, and they continue to fight with undaunted courage. Infantry has played a major role in all the wars that India has fought. They are generally the first to go in the battlefield and the last to leave in wars. Indian Army has followed a British Organizational Structure, thus the Infantry is divided into regiments based on region, ethnicity and religion. There are a number of infantry regiments; some have been raised since the Army was formed, while some are recent. The soldiers in the regiments are generally based on the region and ethnicity, while the officers can be from any region or ethnicity.
The Infantry School, located in Mhow is the Alma mater of the Infantry. The Infantry School is the repository of infantry’s tactical doctrines, drills, procedures and skill at arms. Through its vast assets, it is systematically grooming junior leaders to enable them to handle various combat situations in professional manner. All Indian infantry officers receive their first institutionalized training at this School.

Infantry is termed as the ‘Queen of War’. The infantry of any army plays a vital role in deciding the outcome of any battle. The soldiers in the infantry have proved themselves to be courageous and fearless from time immemorial. On this Infantry day, we pay tribute to all the brave Infantry Officers and men who have lost their lives protecting and serving the motherland. We salute the courage and bravery of the Infantry soldiers sitting and guarding the borders right from the chilling cold of Siachen glacier, to the burning summer of Thar Desert and in the impregnable jungles of the northeast. We can never thank them enough.
Do not lament the death of a Warrior killed in the battlefield as those who sacrifice their lives in war are honored in heaven.

Importance of Hobbies

1
Importance of Hobbies

These days hobbies are the integral part of any interview and competition. A candidate may be seeking armed forces as career or going for job in private sector, besides academics, the interviewer is keen to know how you make use of your spare time. Candidates are generally asked questions during SSB interviews. The hobbies mentioned in PIQ forms give an idea about the candidate. The IO can ask many questions related to hobbies.

Through the responses given the candidates, he can make out the personality of the candidate. So, its very important to have a hobby. Important not from SSBs point of view, but from our own personality’s point of view. A hobby develops our character and personality. The creativity, passion, dedication involved in a hobby tells other about us.

Need of a Hobby

A hobby is not to be only for impressing the interview board, but for ones own benefits. A good hobby helps you in the following ways-
  1. A hobby is the appropriate use of ones psycho-physical energy. A good hobby should make use of both head and hand potentials.
  2. A humble beginning in a hobby may be converted into a full-fledged profession.
  3. A hobby is not only refreshing, creative and fulfilling but also rejuvenating and recharging to meet challenges in life.
  4. A good hobby is a lifelong friend, as towards the retired life or elderly years, one always finds difficult to keep one busy as lot of time is available with them.
  5. A hobby combined with some monetary returns in the later years. It can certainly be very rewarding.
    hobby questions in SSB

Categories of Hobbies

  • Indoor hobbies- Writing, cooking, painting, drawing, music instruments, singing, reading, philately, Sudoku, coin collection, yoga and meditation, dancing, wood carving sculpturing etc.
  • Outdoor hobbies- Photography, gardening, trekking, bird watching, study of nature, carpentry, pet rearing, fishing, mountaineering, rafting, canoeing etc.
Guidelines for choosing and developing a hobby
  1. A hobby preferably is based on ones talent. For example some people have natural flare for writing, singing, dancing. They should encash on it and make it a lifelong friend.
  2. A hobby should be financially viable and affordable.
  3. One may start as humble beginner. But once you gain some positive result, motivation to do better will develop it to a higher level.
  4. You may try your hands on 2-3 hobbies as a beginner. Then see where you can perform better and achieve good result.
  5. Remain in touch with other people involved in that particular hobby. Know about various activities like exhibitions/melas/competition being organized in town/state. Net facility can have people of same hobby as friends to know mutuality.
  6. Always know about the historical background or beginner of a hobby. You will find very inspiring as a beginner. Know about famous personalities who have contributed to this hobby.
  7. Parents/teachers should help the students to pick up the hobby at an early age, as a student is keen to learn new things with interests and pleasure.
  8. A hobby should give sufficient exercise to mind if not both mind and hobby. For example, Sudoku, cross word puzzles are mind exercising hobbies and can be pursued anywhere and anytime.
To conclude, hobby is very important. It not only develops your personality but it gives an edge to your thoughts and views. It shapes your personality. Thinking and choosing a hobby is very important taking into considerations all the points mentioned above. Over that, a person has to be serious with it. Mere doing it for sake of anything shouldn’t be done. So choose wisely and develop it with your passion, dedication and creativity.
