Recommended In 4th Attempt For OTA

0

Friends, this is Sarfaraz Ahmed. It took me 4 attempts and 2 years to clear SSB. 2 Screen Out, 1 Conference Out and finally I got recommended from 11 SSB Allahabad for OTA. So, rather than calling it a success story, I prefer to call it a story of overcoming failures. I don’t know how much it can help SSB aspirants but I do want to share certain dos and don’ts of SSB which I have figured out. Else, other things will be mere repetition of sayings of others.

Screening

Verbal and nonverbal reasoning is easy and anyone can do it with little or no preparation. I hardly think it has much say in selection. PPDT and GD is what decide the fate. It can be prepared in advance with some tact. For example picture showing:
  • Child= Child labor, orphanage.
  • Women= crime against women, dowry etc.
  • Old person= crime against elderly, old age homes etc.
  • Gathering of people= Aids, Cancer etc. campaigns.

Similarly, I have prepared 5 stories in advance and it worked for me. Next, if you are able to narrate without stammering and gives 2-3 points in favor of common story. Than, 100% you will get in.

Psychology

Recommended In 4th Attempt For OTABefore, this attempt I was following a lot of craps of magazine and coaching institute. Such as make short term story, story about saving people, helping them and all dat. This time, I followed my heart and made whatever comes in my mind as Football match, giving presentation etc and blank story about SSB.

WAT:
Make knowledge based and observational sentences.
For example:
Escape: Escape velocity of earth is 11km/sec.
Kill: Rooney went for kill in last minute of game.

SRT:
Refer any book of SSB. The SRTs are mostly same. I was able to do only 42 this time. When I was CO, I did all 60. So quality matter not the quantity. All SRTs should be in sequence.

SD:
Remember whatever strength and weakness you have written here. They reconfirm most of things in interview.

GTO

2 words cooperation and group behaviour is all that matters. In repeaters batch, it becomes more difficult to implement them. In 1st GD, I was able to speak only twice. In 2nd once and in GPE I wasn’t able to speak at all. Your cool, calm temperament matters only. However, when I said a point I ensured that it was heard.
Group behaviour matters a lot. Many a times in PGT, HGT and FGT I gave chance to people to implement their ideas. In GPE, nobody agrees to the person giving group solution except me. There also, I showed cooperation.

Personal Interview

IT matters a lot. If the interviewer is impressed than, half the battle is won. However, I think it is better not to try anything like storytelling, giving exaggerated information etc. IO is the BAAP and he knows everything. Just give him complete information he is asking and don’t give any negative behavioral traits no matter how nicely he asks. For repeaters, rapid fire questions must be answered. There is a general trend. They club education, ECA, sports questions together. Similarly, questions about friends, strength, weakness, job etc. try to remember the no. of questions under each trend and you will be able to answer maximum questions. Your cool and calm temperament with a smile can help you in getting through.

Conference

Few general questions are asked about stay at SSB and all. If u have failed to answer any question in interview. They may ask here. So, be prepared.
After that results are announced and it was awesome feeling to hear your chest no. only, I was selected among repeaters and I think it is because I didn’t compete but I maintained my natural self-there.
Lastly, I would like to thank SSBCrack for keeping me updated and motivated. I downloaded and practiced its materials a lot of time. The book my experiment with psychologist is also very helpful.  I would like to conclude by wishing all the best to all warriors reading this. May your dreams come true in next SSB.

What Behaviour Should Be Adopted In SSB During 5 Days

0

SSB interview is a very simple procedure and according to the officers, the efficiency of selecting the best officers has been 99.9999%. During 5 days you will be having your best time, a life you have never lived before, a task which you might have never seen before. I have given 2 SSB’s but unfortunately, conference out every time but I will try again, because the satisfaction that Olive Green uniform can provide you, is much higher than millions of rupees that you may save in a private job in MNC’s.

SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

Don’t Try To Be Fake

But you need to remember it is also not that easy as it seems. It is not just a cakewalk, it is also a process that will actually show if you have that OFFICER LIKE QUALITY or not, you might take coaching, you make take guidance, but what you are, is something could not be molded through this, and in that SSB you may think, I have given my best by doing so(everyone thinks the same),but mind that those sitting there to see you are one who are working in same profession for many years, even with your a lot of practice, you will definitely do something, that will reflect your actual reaction, if you are fake or not. So isn’t it better to be yourself and give those tests. Yaar ek personality test hi toh hai, you just have to show what you have done in your life in all those years.

Behaviour In Group Discussion

Next my point comes on GD’s in PPDT and GD’s in GTO task and Group planning exercise in GTO task. Mind that it doesn’t matter how much you know, you might be having 1000 points to speak on picture as well on some subject, but discussion actually means discussion, so give your points but in a way that other can understand that and discussion should be such that as you do in your house, college… By this I mean to say never get loud, all group members should not speak together, don’t create ruckus, and give chance to everybody. These are things they look for. Have you ever wondered if on discussing on an issue in war or during battle if officers are continually arguing and not coming to conclusion? Officers are those who talk, discuss and give their points and bring conclusion. In Group Planning to make a similar attitude so that you can listen to everyone’s point and make a good plan. At time when you are asked to explain the plan, there may rather there will be 2 or more members stand together and will be eager to explain. This is a good thing, but obviously only one can speak. So you gently decide and ask group members and one who is more supported should speak up.

oir test and ppdt

Language

Thirdly, I will come to Language. It is more important to understand that in screening instructors usually say that “Language of discussion will be English or Hindi or combination of both”. Many candidates get slipped on this instruction and narrate their story in Hindi or use Hindi when they don’t remember some words and then forget that they had to come back to English. Please don’t do such mistakes. Make a point NO HINDI at all, because in next 4 days all that tasks which are going to take place, in all of them you just have to communicate in English. So by doing so, you are making your chances duller and in the last 2 SSB’s I have seen, that both candidates were very good but made their points in Hindi and were screened out.

spot_img

Behaviour During Free Hours

Last but most important, during 5 days of your stay, all your movement is being noted, so if you even think that you are alone at someplace in SSB centre, make it a point you are being watched. So behave properly every time. Keep your bed clean, put all things in place, dress yourself properly and mix up with people, and try to communicate in English even in your free time. It will not only build your confidence but also you will get more fluent with the language.   Friends, best of Luck. Get selected. Make Defence Services your passion if you really want to get it, as SSB instructors even say there were many who never returned after getting rejected, some show charm in their first chance and some put that worm in their mind and never stops trying and improved for the better and are now making their country proud.

Syrian Civil War And Its Effects On International Politics

Syrian Civil War And Its Effects On International Politics

Dear aspirants, if you are going for SSB interview, you might face some questions from this particular topic in your personal interview. We have tried to prepare a simple article on this international issue so that you can get some knowledge on what are the issues related to Syria and its neighbouring countries.

History at a Glance

The Syrian uprising started as a reaction to the Arab Spring a series of anti-government protests across the Arab world inspired by the fall of the Tunisian regime in early 2011. But at the root of the conflict was anger over unemployment, decades of dictatorship, corruption and state violence under of the Middle East’s most repressive regimes. It started in March 2011. Protestors demanded resignation of president Bashar al-Assad. Assad’s family is holding presidency since 1971. He belongs to Ba’ath party. President deployed army to quell the demonstrators, soldiers fired on protesters across the country. After few months the protests turned into armed rebellion between rebels and Assad govt. clashes spread into many towns and cities across the country. In late 2011 influence of jabhat al-nusra (an Islamist group) was increasing to support rebels. In 2013 Hezbollah also entered in favor of government. Russia and Iran are supporters of Assad’s govt. and as a result of this war many citizens fled to other countries, many have been displaced and near 1, 00,000 have been killed and toll is increasing day by day. Thousands of the protesters have been imprisoned.

International Viewpoint

Use of chemical weapons is the reason for the international leaders to worry. Allegations are there on Syrian govt. to use poisonous gas in December 2012, March 2013 and recently in August 2013 to attack civilians and rebels. Use of these banned weapons as it is a weapon of mass destruction. International organizations have accused both rebels and government of severe human right violations. Arab league also suspended Syria’s membership because of its response to the crisis.

  • Iran says Syrian govt. could not use these weapons as Assad had the upper hand in fighting.
  • Barrack Obama mentioned a year ago that use of chemical weapons will be a “red line” for Syria. So US asked its defense secretary to prepare military options for Syria. Navy also sent a fourth armed warship armed with ballistic missiles into eastern Mediterranean Sea.
  • Syria warned US against any military action saying it will create a ball of fire that will inflame the Middle East. And Iran (Syrian ally) suggested US should not cross “red lines” on Syria. Russia (Syria’s main ally and its supporter in UN) urged the Syrian leader to cooperate with UN inspectors to pursue earlier allegations.
  • Israel P.M. Benjamin Netanyahu said this situation can’t continue and we expect it to end. It also urged for global efforts to take out chemical weapons from Syria.

CDSE 2 2013 Paper Analysis For OTA

21

cdse 2 2013 paper analysis

Hello aspirants, so the much awaited CDSE 2 2013 is finally over! So much of hectic schedule during the paper, giving two-three back to back isn’t an easy task. Well those who have appeared, you must be curious about the cutoffs and those who are planning to appear must be eager to know about the kind of paper, or the difficulty level of the paper. Well to begin with I would like to tell you that UPSC exams are not easy, so you need a good preparation to score.

So here is an analysis of the paper for the OTA candidates, it means that this article covers only the analysis of English and GK.

 OTA English Paper

The English paper consisted of the promised number of questions i.e. 120 questions, all carrying equal marks and the maximum marks for this paper were 100. The questions were typical one’s ranging from synonyms, antonyms, error detections etc. in short the set pattern was repeated. The paper consisted of seven passages each having four-five questions based on them. The passages were easy, simple to understand and the questions were somewhat direct. The spotting error section had 19 questions; all demanded a good understanding of basic grammar. There were total 20 each of Antonyms & Synonyms, which were of an above average standard. The good part about Antonyms and synonyms in CDSE is that if you do a good number of previous year question papers you’ll find that words are repeated in some way or the other. There were 18 questions on ordering of sentences, all were simple, and then there were 16 questions on ordering of words in a sentence, again a simple exercise. Hence the English paper was average.

OTA General Knowledge Paper

General Knowledge comprises of the toughest part of CDSE or any UPSC exam for that matter. In this paper also General Knowledge was tough. Some questions were totally direct and some were in no way direct! There was a dominance of questions from Economy, commerce etc. (Thanks to the downfall of rupee!). There were questions asked from the recipients of major awards. Current affair questions included current affairs from the month of April 2013(Latest). There were very few (only two-three) questions asked from the sports section. There were a good amount of questions from Indian Polity. All the questions demanded a good understanding of the things. Hence merely thinking that memorizing history, geography or polity will sail you through in GK is not correct. This is so because there were ample amount of Assertion-Reasoning type questions.
The cutoff for OTA might remain the same as of past years; it may lie between 65-80. Hope for the best and keep your fingers crossed.

What Is University Entry Scheme UES

What Is University Entry Scheme UES
Hello Warriors, this is my 1st article for ssbcrack, the best online portal for clearing your SSB (Services Selection Board). This site also helped me in my SSB but unfortunately I got Conference Out. Anyways, today I’m writing upon the UES (University Entry Scheme), specially focusing upon NAVY UES Entry as I got a chance to interact with the screening board of UES-Navy as they came to my college. So here I start my conversation with the head of the screening board.

What Is University Entry Scheme UES

Q: What is University Entry Scheme UES?

A: UES is an acronym which stands for University Entry Scheme. This is a scheme which Navy has started way back in 1950’s, it was only for the Engineering and Electrical Branch initially for the Electrical branch and later for engineering branches too. We have 5 main branches out of which Navy HQ conducts recruitment  for only for 4 Branches i.e.
  1. Executive Branch
  2. Education Branch
  3. Engineering Branch
  4. Electrical Branch

So this UES continued till about 1986 which we discontinued it and then later restarted in 2003 where we also brought in other branches under the ambit of UES. Primarily it gives an opportunity for those who are pursuing their studies to also opt for career in the NAVY as officers.

Q. How to do you select the candidates for UES SSB after they get scrutinized form the campus?

A. The selection procedure is as such, The screening board comes to the University and grades the candidates on a  4-Point scale, in which the candidates are graded
  1. A for Most Suitable
  2. B for Suitable
  3. C for an average
  4. D who are unsuitable and also the lowest grade in the system

out of which candidates falling in  A, B and C grades will get a chance to appear for the SSB, depending on the numbers of candidates in those grades. Then comes getting recommended in the SSB. If a candidates clear his SSB he is sent for his Medical Tests and on clearing that too, then a final merit list is prepared and depending on the vacancies they are called to join the respective training academies.

Q. Any criteria for a candidate to appear for UES?

A. As you know, this is a NON-UPSC entry so no written exam takes place, but we have another parameter for this which is the CGPA parameter. Then comes the stream, he should be pursuing particularly that stream which is required by the Navy, apart from that a minimum percentage of marks is required. In most B.E. and B.Tech. courses, the minimum percentage is 60% or a CGPA of 6 taking the multiplier as 10 and in the entry of Naval Architecture, a minimum CGPA of 6.75 is required.

Q. What do you look in a candidate to scrutinize him for the SSB or what are the OLQ’s you check in them?

A.  It’s a very difficult question to answer, there are certain characteristics which are definable and certain characteristics which are indefinable. Generally what we look on a whole is whether a candidate has the desired qualities which we look for in an officer in the Armed Forces. If he has then he has a very high probability to  clear the SSB and we grade him accordingly during the campus screening so that the success rate of recommendation at the SSB is greater. OLQ’s are basically personality traits of an individual, as the screening board is for the limited time in the campus so we do not go into extensive physiological tests which are being conducted at the SSB but it is a preliminary stage or you can say a Raw Filtration which is done.

Q. Where do the recommended candidate undergo training  and for what duration?

A. Training for each entry is different, however all the candidates who are selected through UES, their initial training is conducted at Indian Naval Academy which is in Ezhimala (KERELA). It is termed as Naval Orientation Course which maybe for a duration of 22 Weeks, and alternatively for the courses for longer Orientation Course the duration extends to 42 Weeks. So there are two separate Naval Orientation Course depending upon the type of entry.  And on completion of this, they will go for the specific professional  training in other schools.

Q. Which branches of engineering is given more preference for UES-Navy?

A. Generally, if you see it is Entry specific so for each job the requirement of the particular of discipline of engineering is different. However the branches which have more flexibility to wide ranges of entry, I would say it is Mechanical, IT, Electrical, CS.

Q. Any tips you would like to give to our defence aspirants?

A. Tips.! Yes, I would like to say that if you want to succeed and join the career of the Armed Forces then you have to succeed the SSB for which you have to do well in whatever education you are pursuing at that moment, secondly you have to keep yourself physically  fit and healthy, thirdly you should have a good command over the language and also you have to polish your speaking and communication skills and lastly you must lead a very highly moral life ethical life because that will affect your physiological make-up. So you should be mentally healthy as well.

Q. Sir, Do you think SSB Coaching plays a vital role in clearing the SSB?

A. No, I don’t think it plays a vital role, because it depends on how you take it. Let’s suppose you are taking the coaching to identify your weaknesses and thereafter to overcome them by treating them at a core level, then it is helpful otherwise if you are taking SSB coaching just to mask your actual nature then it won’t be helpful to you.

Q. It is said that there is a severe shortage of Officers in the Armed Forces, What is your view for it?

A. Yes, There is but it is being mitigated to a large extent and that however is the criteria to induct officers, because officers are inducted as per a certain pattern and qualities. So it doesn’t mean that we should start inducted anyone just to meet the shortage.

Q. Last but not least and the most important question that the wards of the defence personnel’s gets easily recommended in the SSB, Is it so?

A.  If you are asking as to whether any incentive is given to the wards of defence personnel, No.! There is no incentive given in the Officer’s Entry as such but for the Sailor’s entry, Yes! there are incentives given to the wards of defence personnel’s who have been Killed In Action. To summarize there is no such special incentives given certainly for the officers entry.

Thats all.
I then thanked the Captain and saluted him.
Rest I will be posting more on OLQ’s which the Captain explained me about in my next post. Till them bye, take care, JAI HIND
