Boeing, HAL & Mahindra Tie Up To Manufacture F/A-18 Super Hornet For India

0
Super Hornet
Super Hornet

Adding a new dimension to the Make in India campaign, Boeing announced a partnership with HAL and Mahindra Defence Systems (MDS) to make the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in India.

The partnership would come into effect if India were to select the Super Hornet in any one of two ongoing fighter procurements: An inquiry for 57 ‘multi-role carrier borne fighters’ (MRCBF) for the navy, or another inquiry issued last month for 110 multi-role fighters for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The Boeing Strategy

Boeing’s ‘public-private’ strategy contrasts with the approach of rival aerospace vendors, Lockheed Martin and Saab, in a separate procurement of single-engine fighters that eventually morphed into the ongoing acquisition of 110 ‘multi-role fighters’.

Lockheed Martin and Saab have both partnered private sector firms — Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) and the Adani group respectively — to build in India. That was because the defence ministry required the single-engine fighters to be built under the strategic partner (SP) category, which mandates a private sector Indian partner.

Now, however, the defence ministry is reportedly reviewing the SP policy, and considering whether to permit public sector firms to participate in SP category acquisitions.

The Boeing-HAL-Mahindra partnership constitutes a flexible arrangement in which any of the three — the foreign partner, the public sector firm or the private entity — can be the face of the consortium. For example, if a private sector lead is mandatory, Mahindra can be the prime entity, with Boeing and HAL as technology partners.

The Benefit

The entry of HAL, which has airfield and manufacturing hangars in Bengaluru, could significantly reduce the Super Hornet’s price. The Super Hornet fighter aircraft does not only have a low acquisition cost, but it costs less per flight hour to operate than a tactical aircraft

The policy is designed to encourage foreign companies transfer technology and manufacturing know-how to domestic defence equipment manufacturers. This means that India will possess the tech to build the aircrafts.

According to the government’s proposal for the jets, at least 85%, or 94 aircraft, have to be made in India. The plan will focus on infrastructure, personnel training, and operational tools and techniques required to produce a next-gen fighter aircraft in India.

The Requirement

Late last year, Admiral Sunil Lanba, stated that the RFI for the MRCBF had evoked four responses and that a Request for Proposals would be issued by mid-2018. The four fighters in contention are believed to be the Super Hornet, Dassault’s Rafale-M fighter; Saab’s Gripen Maritime, and the Russian MiG-29K/KUB that already flies off the navy’s lone carrier, INS Vikramaditya.

Lanba stated that the MRCBF would be required for INS Vikrant, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2021, as well as for the subsequent INS Vishal, which is at least 15 years in the future.

About Super Hornet

The Super Hornet is the US Navy’s main carrier borne fighter, and will remain in production out to 2035 according to Pentagon estimates. A new, Block III evolution has gone into service with enhanced network capability, longer range with conformal fuel tanks, an advanced cockpit system and a life of over 9,000 flying hours.

Conclusion

The F/A-18 Super Hornet will outpace threats, bolster defence capabilities and make India stronger for decades to come, it said. The partnership would also bring Boeing, HAL and Mahindra Defence System global scale and supply chain, best-in-industry precision manufacturing processes as well as unrivaled experience in designing and optimising aerospace production, the release added.

SSBCrack: What motivated you to apply for NDA and join the Indian Armed forces?

Besides Indian armed forces is at the top with the best as an organization which any youngster should look forward to being a part of.

utpal anand nda topper

SSBCrack: How did you prepare for the NDA written exam and SSB Interview?

Utpal: I prepared myself for the written examination under my school teachers and special classes conducted by the school during our summer vacation by a teacher from outside. We had an orientation program at our school where we were guided very well by our coaches regarding different aspects of the SSB.  Apart from it our school’s principal, vice principal, and teachers conducted various group discussions, speeches etc. For us to build confidence which really helped me during SSB interview.

SSBCrack: How was your SSB interview, did you ever think that you will be the AIR-1?

Utpal: The Ssb was an awesome experience where you are under the pump the whole five days and yet enjoy it and perform to your best. My centre was SSB Kapurthala and I loved my stay at the place immensely. I reported on 16th Jan. The following morning was the screening and it turned out easy as a huge percentage was screened in. I had my interview the second day itself. So I was mentally relaxed for the GTO. Luckily we got along well and performed well together. On the day of the conference, I was a tad nervous but when the results were announced I got high, thanked God for making everything fall into place. From the next day, we had our medical at Jalandhar which continued for around nine days. Eight of us were recommended in total and a very special nine had developed between us and we spent our spare time visiting the silent city of Kapurthala.
No, I had no clue that I would fare so well in the merit list.

SSBCrack: How did you family and friend support you on this journey?

Utpal: Well, family and friends are every person’s strengths and that has been more so in my case because if not for them I wonder what I would be doing. My friends helped me practice for the group discussions and the obstacles and all through it, we complemented each other in the build-up to our SSBs as sending the most no. of boys to NDA is the aim of a Sainik School. And my family has always motivated and supported me and I credit them along with my teachers and friends for it all.

SSBCrack: What were the preparations you did before facing the SSB interview for NDA?

Utpal: Before the SSB kept myself physically fit and also practiced the different psychology tests and looked for improvement in my performance everyday. I kept myself updated on the different affairs going on across the world. And read a lot about different things. I also prepared myself for the different questions that can be posed in the interview.

SSBCrack: What is your first preference from Army, Navy, and Airforce and what?

How To Safely Gain Weight Before SSB Interview Medical

0
GAIN WEIGHT FOR SSB MEDICAL

Being overweight can result in the candidate getting a Temporary Rejection in his medical exam. But getting a TR for being underweight is also a reality. To lose weight after getting a TR is not very difficult but to gain weight is a tedious and time-taking task.

Gaining weight is not as easy as losing it within 42 days of time. The best strategy for this is to start gaining weight as soon as you are confident of getting a call for SSB. In this article, we will show you how you can safely gain weight before your SSB medicals. But weight gaining tips are only for the candidates who are underweight and for other candidates it is not required to gain access weight if they are just lacking few kgs as per the standard chart.

ssb psychological tests practice book

But first, we need to understand why a person gains weight.

The Reasons for Weight-Gain

There are many reasons why a person gains weight – consuming high calorie-diet, unhealthy lifestyle, genetic influence, and what not?

While there are many reasons for the same, the process behind all of it is the same – high-calorie intake than you burn. When you consume more calorie than you burn, you gain weight. It’s as simple as that.

Our body needs macronutrients in the form of Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats which are essential in our daily lives. The most calories in our daily lives among these come from sugars in carbohydrates. If you take more carbohydrates, you’ll gain more energy and it is this energy that, when left unconsumed, translates to weight gain. Not particular to carbohydrates, if you take any energy and do not consume it, you gain weight.

Tips to Gain Weight

Now, as simple as it sounds, the process of weight gain is not an overnight thing. That makes it as difficult as losing weight.

In a common misconception, being inactive does promote weight gain but also carries a multitude of diseases with it. So, it is out of the question.

What you need to focus on is that you take in more energy than you consume. While carbohydrates provide rapid weight gain, it is equally unhealthy. The best way to gain weight is to take more Proteins and Fats for muscle growth and energy and to cut the carbohydrate intake.

When you take in more proteins than carbs, you promote muscle growth, which is healthier than gaining weight from carbs which translates to fat storage.

A healthy man requires 2400 Calories per day and a woman, 2000 Calories. Start watching your packaged foods for how much calories it packs and proceed accordingly.

Also, focus more on strength training than on cardio.

Apart from this, a perfect diet plan, routine and most importantly, a determination is what it takes to get what you want here.

Note:

  • Avoid weight gainers which are being advertised in TVs and promos, they are not the healthy way to gain weight. These are just high calories supplements.
  • If you really want to gain weight by building muscles, you need to focus on Weight Lifting/Exercise – Proper Protein Intake – Healthy and Clean Balanced Diet.
  • Daily workout at the gym lifting weight is necessary to gain muscles, the more intense your workout with time, the more you stress and burn your muscles, it will repair back and repair back bigger with time. This is how fitness models and bodybuilders gain big muscles. But with the workout you also need to focus on your diet, your protein intake must come from supplements + natural food.
  • If you are working out every day, make sure you are consuming a good weight protein supplement and also taking protein from natural sources like eggs, chicken, mutton, fish etc.
  • To gain weight you need to go in bulking mode where you gain a good amount of muscles and some fat. Then if you want to get ripped, you can start cutting by taking low calories diet and burning more at the gym. But you have to workout at the gym all your life to stay that way.
  • Remember, workout and lifting weight is must if you want to gain muscles. Also, proper protein source and a well-balanced diet are equally important. The result depends on your body type, your body mass index, Basal metabolic rate etc. If you see someone is getting muscles faster than you or losing weight faster than you then they might have god gifted metabolism. Make sure you focus on your goal and not to lose mind looking at other’s success, if you see someone in a good shape, it never happened overnight and there is a lot of hard work behind it.
  • The result would not be quick, but if you are consistent, you can see a good change in your body within 6 months.

Muscles Are Torn In The Gym (workout) Fed In Kitchen (diet) And Built In Bed (rest to recover)

The Diet Plan

Of course, you have to eat more, but your diet must include high protein. Protein helps your muscles to grow and muscles weigh more than the fat. So, the more muscles you have, the more you weigh.

It is a known fact that India is the world’s largest importer of major weapons between 2013 and 2017, with imports increasing by 24% over the last 10 years. Pakistan and China’s arms imports have reduced in the same period. India’s arms imports accounted for 12% of the arms transfers in the world.

These are the findings of latest annual study by the global watchdog on arms sales, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

About SIPRI

Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is an international institute based in Sweden, dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament.

SIPRI is an independent international institute dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament. Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public. Based in Stockholm, SIPRI also has a presence in Beijing, and is regularly ranked among the most respected think tanks worldwide.

SIPRI’s financial support is primarily drawn from governments and independent philanthropic organisations around the world. SIPRI also receives annual support from the Swedish government in the form of a core grant approved by the Swedish parliament.

The Study

As per the study, “the tensions between India, on the one side, and Pakistan and China, on the other, are fuelling India’s growing demand for major weapons, which it remains unable to produce itself.”

It also added that “China, by contrast, is becoming increasingly capable of producing its own weapons and continues to strengthen its relations with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar through arms supplies.”

The Game of Arms

According to the report, India’s arms imports rose to 24% over the last 10 years. Russia remained India’s largest supplier of arms in 2013-2017. Russian arms were 62% of India’s imports. But imports from the US increased by a whopping 557% between 2008-12 and 2013-17. The US is now India’s second largest arms supplier.

Comparing with Pakistan and China, Pakistan’s arms imports decreased by 36% between 2008-12 and 2013-17. China’s arms imports fell by 19% between 2008-12 and 2013-17, yet it was the fifth largest arms importer in 2013-17.

The Expenditure

According to the report, India has emerged as fifth largest military spender in 2017. India had spent $63.9 billion on defence in 2017, an increase of 5.5% compared with 2016, when it was in the sixth spot overall.

The world’s five biggest military spenders in 2017 are United States ($610 billion), China ($228 billion), Saudi Arabia ($69.4 billion), Russia ($66.3 billion) and India ($63.9 billion). They together accounted for 60% of global military spending. The total global military expenditure in 2017 rose to $1,739 billion, a marginal increase of 1.1% in real terms from 2016. It accounted for 2.2% of global gross domestic product in 2017.

India’s spending was higher than that of France ($57.8 billion), UK ($47.2 billion) and Germany ($44.3 billion) in 2017. It has grown in past decade for several reasons, including mounting salary bill for about 1.4 million serving personnel and pensions for more than 2 million veterans, projects worth billions of dollars to induct new warships, combat fighter jets, helicopters, artillery guns and infantry weapons and to enhance capabilities. India has been world’s largest weapons importer in last five years and arms exported by US to India during 2013-17 registered a 557% jump when compared to 2008-12.

Conclusion

India is now the fifth largest military spender in 2017. India had spent $63.9 billion on defence in 2017, an increase of 5.5% compared with 2016, when it was in the sixth spot overall.

Legal Notice To Akshay Kumar

Bollywood couple Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have been issued a legal notice for auctioning the naval uniform that the actor wore in 2016 film ‘Rustom’ as they have “played with the sentiments” of those serving in different armed forces. Besides Akshay and Twinkle, the notice has also been served to auction house SaltScout, which has put out the naval officer uniform for online bidding. Till Wednesday, the highest bid offered for the uniform was Rs 2,35,000. The auction closes on May 26.

“Nobody has ever auctioned an original naval uniform. After this many said that this shouldn’t have happened. They have played with the sentiments of armed forces personnel,” Smita Dikshit, the lawyer who has sent the notice.
“Celebrities get to wear the uniform for a three-hour movie and then they think they have got a blatant right to auction that uniform and compromise national security,” she said.

“In the notice, we have informed them that you cannot auction anything related to the armed forces. Despite all this, the auction is still live. So, we have given them seven days time to put it down otherwise we will move to the concerned court,” Dikshit added.
On April 26, Twinkle posted information about the auction on Instagram claiming that the money raised from the auction would be used for social causes.rustom auction

The legal notice says that the “uniforms resembling those of armed forces pose potential threat to to national security as the said uniform, insignia and badges could pass for genuine service clothing and can find their way to anti-national elements who can use it to foment trouble.”

The notice also states that after the Pathankot attack, “Indian Army had issued guidelines urging civilians across the country to avoid wearing army pattern dresses and shopkeepers were asked to not sell combat clothes, uniforms and equipments as it is ‘illegal to do so’. Thus, by putting the naval officer uniform for auction you have shown disrespect to national interest and have hurt the sentiments of armed force personnel.”
