Cracked NDA SSB Interview For 2 Times – AIR 225

CRACKED NDA SSB INTERVIEW AIR 225

Hello friends! I am Abhishek Soora from Rajasthan. Today I am going to share the most difficult as well as the most fruitful journey of my life i.e. clearing SSB for NDA (Navy) for the 2nd consecutive time. To understand as to why it was difficult to let me take you a little back in my life. When I was studying in my 12th class I was recommended for NDA(Navy) from  33 SSB Bhopal, but unfortunately, I was declared medically unfit due to a cyst in my abdomen which was detected in an ultrasound . Although it caused no problem whatsoever in my body now but according to doctors a tumor or cancer might get developed in it in future, and as we all know our forces never compromise on medical standards  hence the tag ‘’UNFIT”. This experience was a sabotage of my dreams. I felt as if all my hard work, dedication and passion were lynched with impunity. But in those tuff times my friends and family practiced their alchemy on me and gave me the most important thing in life –‘HOPE’.

With that hope, I started my same old journey once again from zero and promised myself and my recommended friends that I will meet them for sure at NDA one day (but as their junior …shit ). I cleared my written once again and then underwent a surgery as soon as possible to get that crap out of my body. Those 2 weeks at the hospital were the most difficult; all of a sudden a sporty man like me was lying on a bed like a corpse with a slit on my stomach. But I knew that all this pain would be worth it someday. During healing process of my surgery I also started preparing for my SSB and soon the date came. My SSB was scheduled at 12 SSB Bangalore on 3 October.

Reached Bangalore railway station on time and made some good friends there itself. A total of 57 candidates reported (as it was an absentee batch) and soon all of us reached Selection Centre South. After all the paperwork was done we were given our stage 1 chest number, mobiles were deposited, had our dinner and headed towards our barracks. It was the 1st day and I had just met these people but still we all talked and told stories till 2 at night.

SCREENING

Next day I was ready for mass genocide i.e. screening after just 2 hours of sleep. OIR-1 was easy but struggled because of lapse of time and couldn’t complete all 45 questions. In OIR-2 started accelerating from the word go and completed all 45. In PPDT the pic shown was of a person looking out of the house window and outside it was foggy and a lake like structure was there. I weaved a story around a boy who calls all his friends to do ice skating together outside his house. Moving on to narration, I gave a crisp narration without any stammering followed by a very good and peaceful discussion despite being a repeater batch (no fish market!! hard to believe but true XD). Soon results were out and 21 out of 57 were screened in .We got  our new stage 2 chest numbers instantly (mine chest no 4) and thereafter we got our PIQ forms which I filled neatly and we all left the hall.

For screening, I would say –

  • Don’t take OIR lightly and do well in it.
  • Make a positive story in which your character does some productive and possible work and describe how he did it.
  • During narration be crisp and confident

If above all things are done perfectly then I don’t think discussion matters much but still don’t just sit back and relax keep trying to contribute.

PSYCHOLOGY & INTERVIEW

Next day was psychology test. Did all 12 stories in time comfortably, completed 60 words in WAT, 45 SRTs and SD was also finished on time. In psych tests don’t mask yourself by mugging up stories and words of others, just reveal your true self. Also prepare your SD in advance to save time.

Just after my psychology tests my interview was scheduled with the deputy president of the board. IO sir made me very warm and comfortable in beginning and later he covered each and every aspect of my PIQ through his questions. He asked many questions related to Navy because of my father still being an active naval personnel .How does ship float? Why ships are painted grey? Latest developments in Indian Navy? Are some of the many questions. In current affairs and gk he touc

hed rohingya issue and CPEC. In interview the IO will dig further in every answer you give, so in such situation just maintain your composure and answer the questions honestly. Also be well prepared with each and every thing you write in your PIQ.

GTO-1

My group consisted of 7 people and all of them were very cooperative and understanding  ,not even once was there some sort of fish market and all the people expressed their views easily. So because of my immensely cooperative group GTO went great. In GD I gave sensible points, in GPE the group plan was quite similar to mine and in PGT we completed all the 4 tasks easily as everyone was able to give ideas at some stage or the other including me. Same was the case with HGT as well as snake race where all the group members gave their best and group did well. In individual obstacles did all 10 and lecturette also went good, I spoke on the topic ‘role of media’.

GTO-2

Day started with command task. I was called by 3 members of my group, during my turn GTO sir helped me out once and later

I completed my task easier. Next came  FGT, there also our group finished the task in 5 mins. In GTO tasks just try  to make good bonding with your group, enjoy doing the tasks with them. Just forget that you are giving any interview ,go with the flow and this way you will be able to bring out the best in you. Remember your group mates are not your competition but you are your own competition.

CONFERENCE

Next day was the culmination of all our performance i.e. conference. After the closing address by the board president our conference started. My conference lasted for about 5 mins in which I was asked to compare my performance with my last one and also about my medical reason.

Finally the time for results came. My heart was throbbing faster than MIG-29k at that moment and there was a surreal silence in the room which was broken by our psychologist sir when he came with the results.  1st name to be called out was ABHISHEK SOORA and just then all the thoughts which were conjuring me till then vanished and it was like I went to oblivion, but soon I came out of it, went to the dice and spelled my name. Out of 21 only 2 got recommended, the other my friend Aakash Yadav who was also a previously recommended candidate.

I am glad that I could live up to the promise I made to my friends and now finally after all hardships I have achieved my dream. This time medically fit and AIR 225.

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life-think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea and just leave every other idea alone” This is the way to success!!

President’s standards were presented to 10 Armoured Regiment, 41 Armoured Regiment & 87 Armoured Regiment of the Indian Armoured Corps. The ceremony was held at Suratgarh Military Station on 5th December 2017.

In a historic moment at the Military Station a magnificent and immaculate mounted parade was held following which General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Army Staff, presented President’s Standards on behalf of Honorable President of India, President Ramnath Kovind to 10, 41 and 87 Armoured Regiments.

It is very rare for a regiment to be honoured with the President’s Colours. This rare honour has been bestowed upon these Armoured Regiments recognizing their dedicated and meritorious service since their raising. They were raised more than three decades back.

In the course of discharging their onerous duties, both in operations and in peace, the hard work done and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of these regiments has been duly recognised.

During the parade, a formation of the frontline fighters, the T-72 main battle tanks was commanded by Brig Praveen Chhabra. Brig Chhabra commanded the Sand Viper Brigade with Regiment Contingents being commanded by their Commanding Officers respectively.

As a matter of tradition, each Armoured Regiment has its own “Colonel of the Regiment”, an honorary post for a senior officer who oversees the regimental issues concerning the unit. Major General Vinod Sharma, Major General SS Mahal and Maj General Kulpreet Singh, the ‘Colonels of the Regiments’ were the hosts of the event.

Among the civil and military dignitaries who attended the event were Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Sapta Shakti Command; Lieutenant General PC Thimmaya, General Officer Commanding, Chetak Corps. Many senior serving and retired officers were also present.

What is the President’s Standard?

President’s Standard is presented in acknowledgment of services rendered to the nation on behalf of the supreme commander of the armed forces – the President. It recognizes the hard work and dedication of officers and soldiers of that regiment over a period of time.

The unit upon which this honour is bestowed is selected based on its success and achievements in previous operations and service rendered to the nation – during was and peace alike.

What is Special Protection Group (SPG) and How to Join

1

Raised in 1988, the Special Protection Group or SPG as it is known is a finely trained organization which provides proximate security to the VIPs of India. These VIPs are generally present and former Prime Minister and their immediate family members.

History of SPG:

When the then PM Indira Gandhi was assassinated, the government felt a need to raise a dedicated force whose sole responsibility will be to protect present and former PMs of India and their immediate family members.

Before the formation of SPG, the local police force, municipality, and other armed forces used to provide security, but there was no co-ordination among them. It was called Special Task Force (STF) and it was handled by the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

With an initial vacancies of 819 posts, the director of Special Protection Group was an IPS officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police.

The SPG was constituted and was specifically trained to provide protection to the then PM Rajiv Gandhi, viewing the threats in and around him. The SPG stopped its cover after PM Rajiv Gandhi lost elections the next time which increased threats around him. After his assassination in 1991, the SPG Act was amended to provide security to former Prime Ministers and also to their immediate families.

It was initially proposed that the protection to former Prime Minister and their immediate family members was to be given for a period of 10 years from the date on which the former Prime Minister give up the office. It is today revised to 1 year and is reviewed depending on threat perception.

Since then, the SPG has only one task – protect Prime Minister and their family.

SPG Budget:

According to sources, an increase of about 40 per cent was made in the 1997-98 Union Budget in the allocation for the Special Protection Group. The allocation for the SPG was Rs. 46 crores in the last Budget which increased to Rs. 54.39 crores in the 1996-97 revised estimate. The Union Finance Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram, allocated Rs. 75.59 crores for 1997-98, reflecting pressure on the SPG and expansion of the security cover provided by SPG.

How are Members of SPG Selected?

Unlike any other force, the SPG does not have a direct dedicated entry. The senior and junior officers of are recruited from the Indian Police Service (IPS), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

SPG 1 1

SPG personnel changes every year in the group. No single individual serves for more than one year. As previous SPG personnel are sent back to their parent unit after completing their tenure, a vacancy list is sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs to these organizations. The list then forward down the hierarchy to the next lower levels of units. Many personnel apply for various posts in SPG through this.

spot_img

The selection procedure:

Just like the SSB, the selection has PI, Psych and Physical tests. The first stage of the selection process is a personal interview conducted by an IPS officer of the rank of IG (Inspector General), two deputy IGs and two assistant IGs. After the interview, a physical exam, a written test and a psychological evaluation is held.

Training:

The candidates are kept on a probation for three months that includes a weekly test. Those who fail in the probation are given another chance in the next batch and if they still can not clear it, then they are returned to the parent unit. SPG members are rotated regularly from one duty to another.

Branches of SPG:

The SPG is broadly categorized into 4 brances

  1. Operations: It deals with the actual protection duties. In the Operations Branch, there are components like Communications Wing, Transport Wing and Technical Wing.
  2. Training: This category deals with training of personnel in physical efficiency, firing, anti-sabotage checks, communication and other operative aspects.
  3. Intelligence and Tours: It deals with threat assessment, internal intelligence pertaining to personnel, verification of character and antecedents, tours and other related jobs.
  4. Administration – This category deals with personnel, procurement and other related matters.

Qualification, Age Limit and Allowances:

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India.
  • The age of the candidate should not be more than 35 years.
  • Passed 12th standard from a recognized board.
  • Serving member of IPS, BSF, ITBP and CRPF.
  • Allowance of SPG members are 50% of their basic pay. Members in the administrative section get a hike of 25%.

How SPG Functions:

SPG
SPG Members around PM Modi

There are standard operating procedures laid down to protect the PM wherever he goes – be it domestic or foreign tour. This included everything from anti-sabotage checks, sanitizing of venues and personal security details.

There are detailed operational procedures in place specifying everything like the number of men accompanying him in the car, at the dias, etc. They also keep a strict check on who meets PM and who is allowed to meet. The SPG also answers the PM’s phone calls and ask the PM to decide whether to meet the person or not.

The SPG protects the PM by forming multiple security rings around him. The members of the innermost ring have the sole mission of getting the PM to safety in case of an attack. The SPG Counter Assault Team usually form the second level. They are tasked with providing covering firepower to allow enough time for PM to get to safety.

Besides the main assault team that you see here, they may also be supported by a third cordon which include NSG, IAF and local forces for perimeter and aerospace safety.

So, the next time you think of, oh, don’t even think of it.

Vigilant Ace: US and South Korea Launches Largest Air Exercises

0
Vigilant Ace
Vigilant Ace

The largest ever joint air exercise between South Korea and the United States – Vigilant Ace 18 – has kick stared after North Korea tested its most advanced and powerful Inter Continental Ballistic Missile, Hwasong-15.

The rogue nation North Korea has performed six increasingly powerful nuclear tests since 2006. The latest on was in September 2017 which introduces Hwasong-15 to the world. Four of these atomic tests were overseen since Kim Jong-Un took over in 2011, along with over a dozen missile tests.

The following month, in November 2017, North Korea claimed that it can strike anywhere in US mainland with Hwasong-15 ICBM which is capable of delivering a “super-large” nuclear warhead.

The largest ever air drills focus on enhancing their operational readiness and to ensure peace and security on Korean peninsula.

The Exercise Vigilant Ace 2018:

It is the third such annual exercise between US and ROK. Earlier named as Beverly Bulldog, the exercise kicked off on 4th December and will go on till 8th December. It will include enemy infiltration and precision strike drills with South Korean jets across eight military installations.

This time, it is being conducted on such a massive scale that larger than 12,000 United States service members will join South Korea’s airmen in the air combat exercise. The 12,000 member US contingent will have personnel from US Air Force, US Marine Corps and US Navy.

The Aircrafts:

The total aircraft being used for the exercise are about 230. It includes 6 F-22 Raptors and 18 F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. An unknown number of F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft, assigned to the 36th Fighter Squadron, are also deployed during Exercise Vigilant Ace.

The F-35 is the newest fighter in the US Air Force inventory. Of 18 F-35s, 6 are F-35A of US Air Force and 12 are F-35B from US Marine Corps. The fighters have flown to Korean Peninsula from Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, Japan.

Other aircrafts taking part in the exercises are the U.S. Air Force’s F-16C/D Viper and F-15C Eagle fighter jets and A-10 Warthog ground attack aircraft. The U.S. Marine Corps’ and US Navy’s F/A-18 Hornet and EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft will also take part in the exercise.

South Korea will be represented by F-15K Slam Eagles and KF-16 Vipers, along with is aging F-4E Phantom IIs. Apart from the fighters, South Korea’s aerial refueling tankers, E-3 Sentry airborne command and control planes, and various intelligence platforms are also part of the 230 total aircraft taking part in the drills.

The US aircraft along with the South Korean aircrafts, began flying mock missions from 8 air bases in South Korea – Kunsan, Daegu,  Gwangju, Cheongju, Jungwon, Seosan, Osan, and Wonju.

According to a press release, these jets will be key in neutralizing surface-to-air missile sites in order to pave the way for follow-on strikes by non-stealthy jets. Electronic warfare aircraft such as the EA-18G could help suppress enemy air defenders who escape the initial round of attacks and American and South Korean aircraft could use stand-off cruise missiles and other weapons to attack those sites while still staying as far away from the threat area as possible.

Army also Participating:

Apart from the air force, the South Korean army’s K-55 self-propelled artillery vehicles are also taking part in a military exercise near the demilitarized zone. This zone separates North Korea from South Korea.

About Hwasong-15:

The Hwasong-15 ICBM is developed by North Korea, had its first flight on 28 November 2017. It is the first ballistic missile developed by North Korea which can reach the US Mainland.

During the test, the missile reached an altitude of around 4475 km and traveled about 950 km downrange with a flight time of 53 minutes. However, the missile’s re-entry vehicle failed to successfully re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere as it broke apart into pieces before crashing into the waters within Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

According to analysts, The Hwasong-15 first stage has a gimbaled two-chambered main engine system, as opposed to the Hwasong-12 and Hwasong-14 which have one fixed main chamber and four gimbaled steering vernier thruster chambers. Its first stage booster design is strikingly similar to the Titan II missile. The new propulsion is estimated to have 170 percent increase in thrust, compared to the Hwasong-14.

Senior South Korean official confirmed that the missile is using advanced technology comparable to F-22 as engine uses gimbals.

Analysts and experts note that the protection cover for re-entry vehicles may have been designed with -multiple warheads in mind.

The 9 axle Transporter erector launcher (TEL) vehicle is larger compared to the 8 axle TEL vehicle of the Hwasong-14. However, just like the Hwasong-14, the launch footage indicates the missile was fired from a fixed launch pad, not from the vehicle.

The Rising Conflict:

The months-long nuclear standoff between Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump has also raised concerns of another conflict. The last conflict was more than six decades ago when 1950-53 Korean War left much of the Korean peninsula in ruins.

According to a spokesperson of 7th Air Force, “the exercise is designed to ensure interoperability between Republic of Korea and U.S. airmen, as well as to build readiness to defend the Republic of Korea from a North Korean attack.” This hints towards a major conflict coming up in the area. The exercises have been condemned as a provocation by the isolated North Korea.

The North Korea’s foreign ministry spokesman responded that the Trump administration was “begging for nuclear war by staging an extremely dangerous nuclear gamble on the Korean peninsula” and said the drill would “push the already acute situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war”.

What do you think?

It is to be noted that North Korea could launch an artillery attack on the South Korean capital Seoul which is only about 50 kms from the heavily-fortified North-South border. The capital is also home to 10 million people.

Do you think US and Republic of Korea are doing a right thing preparing for a war or do you think that exercises like these will just increase tensions in the area and provoke each other for a nuclear war?

Being happy is the precondition for confidence. Every person who is happy or motivates self to be happy achieves the required level of confidence. A person should learn to be happy. This might be a hard task for some, but whatever may be the cost, one should try to achieve happiness, because then everything becomes easier.

The qualities listed above are easy to inculcate and imbibe, given a little practice and a lot of focus.

Hyderabad’s Vidul Thimanna Tops Indian Army’s Technical Entry – AIR 1

0

Hello,  I’m Vidul Thimanna AIR 1 TES 38. I wrote an article Quora a month ago on some tips on getting recommended. I hope it would do. I used to read a lot of articles on SSBCrack during my preparation.

Screening in

The key to getting screened in is confidence: if you narrate your story confidently, 90% of your work is done. It will form a good impression on the assessors as well as the other candidates before the discussion.

Interview

Face the interview like you are having a conversation with an inquisitive old friend of your father. Smile, laugh, enjoy the interview. Introspection is highly important to keep your thoughts organised for the interview- delve deeper into your personality, family members, hobbies, interests, memories, habits, teachers, friends. Writing is a great way to introspect. If your dad’s in the army know his history- his regiment, postings, when was he commissioned, courses he’s done, etc. Be thorough with current affairs, general knowledge, latest defence deals and procurements, etc. If you don’t know the answer to a question say “I don’t know, Sir” boldly and assure him that you will find out and tell him the answer in the conference.tes merit list tes 38

Psychology

Avoid phrases/idioms in WAT, don’t be an egotist (make sentences with ‘I’), avoid sentences with ‘should’ and ‘would’ (This is what my coached friends told me).

For the TAT, I’ll give you the most generic but useful advice – try to be positive. Also try to avoid repetitive thoughts.

In the SRT always remember quality over quantity.

Be honest in the SAT/SD, because the things you write here should be in sync with the things you’ve written in the other three psychology tests (ask your parents, friends teachers what they think about you beforehand if you want to give a more accurate picture).

Practice these a few times if you can before the SSB, it definitely helps.

GTO

Again confidence is key. Listen to the instructions of the officer very very carefully. Speak only if you have a valid point during the GD or a good idea during the group task, never try to participate just for the sake of getting noticed by the officer. The Command Task is extremely important, keep your cool and don’t crack under pressure (the GTO might purposely try to pressurise you and even insult you to do so, be calm throughout).
tes air 1 vidul tes air 1 tes recommended candidates

Now for the most important part-

Chill during your 5 day stay. Nobody is judging you- the CHM, dhobi, safai vala, etc. are not undercover psychologists and aren’t a part of the selection procedure.

You’ll hear a lot of myths about how getting called as a subordinate many times will get you selected, doing less number of obstacles will surely lead to your rejection etc. Don’t listen to others too much and never obsess over the process. Spend more time preparing yourself rather than learning how the assessors judge you.

Go out to visit places or play sports everyday, keep yourself occupied. Don’t ever worry or get demotivated, especially during the GTO days. One or two bad performances won’t completely ruin your chances of getting recommended but losing hope will.

Enjoy the night before the conference- sing, dance, play TT, just lose yourself and don’t think about what will happen tomorrow. There is no point in working your ass off before the conference, what is done is done (just learn the answers to the questions you didn’t know in the interview).

To summarize, just work hard before the SSB, party hard during the SSB. Be yourself, make good friends, roam around the city, play sports etc basically enjoy your 5 day stay to the fullest.

Godspeed.

Recommended In 5th Attempt For Indian Army

0
ssb interview

Hello friends my name is Anish Desai and I got recommended from 24 SSB Bangalore for IMA-144 DE. I have completed my graduation in Mechanical Engineering in 2016 & currently, I am working in a Pvt firm. This was my 5th attempt, the previous attempts were as follows:

Jun-2016 AFCAT 1-2016 (Mysore) Conference out
Dec-2016 AFCAT 2-2016 (Dehradun) Conference out
Jan-2017 SSC GS (X) (Coimbatore) Screen out
May-2017 AFCAT 1-2017 (Gandhinagar) Screen out
XXX CDS 1-2017 (Bangalore) Recommended

So the journey was long and demoralizing, but with persistence and determination I kept on working hard and eventually nailed it.

I would like to quote that:

“Each struggle, each defeat, sharpens your skills & strengths, your courage and your endurance, your ability and your confidence and thus each obstacle is a comrade-in-arms forcing you to become better……or quit.”

And one more;

“When heaven is about to confer a great office on any man, it first disciplines his mind with sufferings”

So, I would divide this in 3 parts:

  1. My success story
  2. How did Dr Cdr Natarajan Sir’s video lectures help.
  3. Personal inputs.

So my story goes as follows;

I had to report @ 2pm to Bangalore. 50 students reported out of which 2 were sent back due to lack of documents and then we were allotted our barracks.

Day 1: Our screening process started @6.30 am. The OIR was difficult. In 1st test (Verbal) I could attempt only 30/45 {There were people who could complete 15-20 and were screened in) and in 2nd test (Non-verbal) I attempted 42/45. After OIR it was time for the PPDT. We were shown a quiet clear picture (a man playing with his child) and I was not able to think a story on it. I started with a bad story and when 3 mins were done, I had a different story in mind. So I messed up completely during writing the story. My story was only of 5-6 lines. After 4 mins our paper was taken back and told to wait for DT. During this time I kept on making a different and meaningful story in my mind. After around 30 mins we were called in for DT. We were 13 in our group. We were given our story paper to read the story. I didn’t open it and after 20 secs the paper were taken back and the narration started. My turn was 3rd and I narrated my story confidently and maintained a smiling disposure. After everyone’s turn the GD started and it was complete fish market. I kept calm and tried to contribute. After around 50 secs one of the officer got up and told us to stop and said ‘the discussion was chaotic, it could have been better. You may get up and leave now’. And our discussion was over in a minute.

After around 1 hr results were declared and 24/48 students were selected. Out of 24 only 6 were fresher’s/screen-out. (From our group 4/13 students were screened in.)

{In my story, I focused on details and narrated it confidently by proper introduction and voice modulation & completed my narration in 1 min.}

Later we were given new chest numbers and told to fill up PIQ and other forms and allotted barracks. My chest number was 11.

ssb interview

Day 2:  Psychology & Interview (Of 12 candidates)

We were told to report at 7.30 am and our tests started at 8.00 am.

The psychologist came in and explained us about the various tests which will be conducted. Later he told us to close our eyes and relax by taking deep breaths for about 20 secs after which he started with TAT.

TAT: Out of the 11 pictures 3 were accident scenes, 3 were of camping/trekking, 2 were related to group-studies, 1 was people working in a group, 1 was of a person climbing a ladder and 1 was of a person rushing out of his house. I observed the pictures carefully for full 30 secs and wrote short and crisp stories by focusing on the details. In blank slide I wrote about the road trip which I went with my family.

WAT: 60 words back to back…..boom the test was done in 15 mins. I could write about 50-52 sentences only. I couldn’t think about sentences on many words, so I skipped them and went ahead. I wrote what came to mind first and took care that my beliefs, GK and opinions are reflected in my responses.

SRT: I could attempt only 38 SRT’s in 30 mins, but my responses were crisp and complete.

SDT: We were told to write paragraphs on:

  1. What your parents think of you
  2. What your teachers/employers think of you
  3. What your friends think about you
  4. What you think about yourself
  5. Qualities you would like to improve

This time I had not prepared my SD before-hand. I wrote all the responses on the spot. I wrote about my strengths in the 1st four paragraphs and weaknesses only in the last paragraph.

Overall my psychology was not so good but I had followed the thought “Quality matters over quantity” and hence I was optimistic about my performance.

{I was totally free-minded and positive during the entire test which helped me write down my thoughts in a natural flow. I wrote down whatever came to my mind first and thus it projected my originality.}

Later on from 12pm, interviews started and 12 candidates were interviewed.

We interacted with them and got to know about the GK and technical questions been asked by the IO.

Day 3:GTO-1 and Interview (Of 9 candidates)

We were divided into 3 groups of 8 each and our testing started at 7.00am.

GD-1: Topic 1: To make India a better economy which of the system will be better.

  1. Make all transactions cashless
  2. Scrap all denominations above Rs100
  3. The current system

Topic 2: For India to be a superpower which country would be better?

  1. USA
  2. China
  3. Israel

We decided to speak on the 1st topic. We had a healthy GD and everyone got chance to speak. All were having good points to say. I entered the GD early and kept on adding points. I contributed to the group 5-6 times and appreciated others view as well. We discussed for about 20 mins after which sir told us to stop.

GD-2: Topic: To make Swaach Bharat Abhiyaan a success which one of the following is required.

  1. Recycling waste
  2. Severe punishment for those who throw away the wastes in open
  3. River cleaning

I initiated this GD by supporting my point with a fact. Later on I kept contributing to the GD and spoke for 6-7 times. This GD was also very good and we could give out good points. Again I appreciated good points of others. This GD also went for about 20 mins.

{In both the GD’s I continued to speak on one lead only. I followed Cdr Natarajan Sir’s advice; speak crisply, come back, let others speak, again speak crisply and so on……}

GPE: Sir explained us the setup and read out the story. Then we were given out the narrative to read and figure it out with the layout in front. Then we were given 10 mins to write down our individual story. I wrote the story by mentioning the Aim, Priorities, Resources, Solution. After writing the story our sheets were taken back and discussion started. Initially it was fish market but later on everyone was discussing nicely. Again I contributed to the discussion about 6-7 times with logical points. After 15 mins sir told us to conclude our discussion and nominate one person from group to explain the solution to sir. My group nominated me to narrate it and I did it properly by considering everyone’s point. No one objected the common story.

After GPE our sir told us that we didn’t discuss about time as distance and also scolded us that despite been repeaters we didn’t do it and continued his scolding for about 5 mins.

PGT: After GPE we were taken to GTO grounds for PGT. Sir explained us about the task and also briefed about the rules. Then we were given 45 mins to complete the PGT. The 1st task was very easy and everyone had ideas. I also gave an idea once and helped others to place the planks and ballis and also gave a helping hand to people going ahead. We completed 1st obstacle in 5 mins. The 2nd was little difficult. I gave ideas but I couldn’t go inside as everyone was trying to go in. I decided to stay out and give my ideas and help team members as much as I can. We completed 2nd obstacle in 10-15 mins. Then we went ahead on to 3rd obstacle which was very difficult. Again everyone wanted to go in. I helped and started giving ideas from start line. Then 3 candidates who were inside were not getting ideas, so sir told them 2 of them to come back and told that those who have ideas please go ahead and implement it. I went ahead along with 2 other and as we were 3 in total, sir shouted at me and told, chest no. 11 who told you to come ahead, go back! That was devastating. I thought my chances of been recommended by GTO have ended. But never the less I kept on giving ideas from the start line and helped the group to clear the obstacle. After we completed the 3rd obstacle, sir told to stop and PGT was over.

HGT: We were divided in 2 groups according to odd-even chest no. So I was in group with odd no. Our task started and 1 guy was continuously saying I have an idea. I tried to give ideas but he dominated. We went ahead with his idea and our HGT was done in 5 mins.

GOR: The most exciting GTO task. 3 groups were told to race against each other and tackle a total of 6 obstacles. Our war cry was ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and the GOR started with full josh. Our group was stuck for long in 2nd obstacle (8 Shaped) and other groups went ahead. None the less we were cohesive and continued with same josh. Eventually during high wall obstacles we went ahead of both the groups as we tackled those very efficiently and completed all the 6 obstacles. As we were much ahead of other groups(By 45-50secs), our GTO told 4 members of our group to repeat an obstacle and even after that other groups were behind us, so he told us to count reverse from 10-1 and then after all group completed 6 obstacles we ran towards the final line and all groups completed the race at almost same time and thus GOR came to an end.

{I always helped others while tackling the obstacles.}

Lectt: After GOR was our lecturette, the most stressful tasks in the GTO series. We had to select a card one by one and speak on 1 topic. My topics were:

  1. Charity begins at home
  2. Movie censorship
  3. Journalism in India
  4. Endangered Species

I choose to speak on endangered species. Out of the 3 mins time given to prepare I spent almost 2 mins to decide the topic. Then I decided to speak on 4th topic and finalize 4 parts in which I will deliver the lecture. I started with full confidence and continued speaking anything that was coming to my mind. After 2.5 mins the GTO rang the warning bell and I started concluding and then to my disappointment he rang the final bell after 10 secs and I couldn’t conclude. I was shocked and couldn’t believe what happened. After lectt GTO-Day1 was done.

9 candidates were interviewed after GTO-1. My Interview was still pending……

Day-4: GTO-2 and Interview (Of 3 candidates)

IOR: We were told to report @6.30am and then started with IOR. Sir explained us about all the 10 obstacles and gave us 1 min to go around and decide the sequence we would like to follow. After which the test started in sequential manner. I started with balancing beam and completed all the 10 obstacles in 3 mins. Everyone in our group completed 10 obstacles. (We were told by the JCO in the initial briefing that do balancing beam at start or the end.)

CT: After IOR we had our Command task. The most important task in the GTO series. Sir told us that he will be calling us randomly. So the tasks started and I was called as sub-ordinates 2 times. Later on my turn came 7th in the group. While taking me towards the task sir asked me about my current job, previous attempts and what improvement have I done in this attempt. I answered them properly and then sir told me call 2 subordinates. I wished good morning to my subordinates and then briefed them about the task and also explained them the rules. My task was little difficult. It had 3 paths to cross the obstacle. I choose 1 path and worked along with subordinates to bridge the gaps. I had to make improvised cantilever to cross over and sir also created little pressure by reducing my time. Thus I completed the obstacle in around 10 mins. Later on sir told my subordinates to go back and asked me to cross the obstacle using other path. During this time he put lot of pressure on me. He also told me to assume certain structures to be red. After all this I was able to complete the task in 10 mins after which sir told me to keep the helping materials at start line and go back. I was very satisfied after my CT.

[In our group there were 3 candidates (including me) to whom sir told to send back their subordinates during CT and work alone; and we 3 were recommended from our group of 8.]

FGT: Our FGT was done in fast forward mode and completed in 2 mins.

With this GTO ended.

{During the entire GTO series I adhered to the instructions given by the JCO and the officer. I was careful not to be break any rule during the outdoor tasks. I always stayed with the group and did not dominate in any task}

Interview: Now only 3 of us were left (chest no 9, 10, 11). Chest no 9 was called immediately after the GTO and 10 and I were told to change into formals and report back in 10 mins.

I was called in for interview immediately after reporting back in formals. I was totally relaxed and calm. I entered the room with full confidence with permission of sir. Sir came to me wish me good morning and we had a handshake. He told me to take my sit and the interview started.

He started by “Tell me something about Mumbai” to which I was thoroughly prepared and spoke for 5 mins. Later on he started rapid fire questions. 1st rapid fire was related to my job and answered everything properly by sticking to the sequence as far as possible. He grilled me over my management of salary when I said that I save specific amount of my salary. He asked me about all the various investment options which I choose for saving. I answered all the question properly. 2nd rapid fire was about my education, teachers, placement,extra-curricular activities etc. Again I answered all the questions properly. He grilled me over the placement as I choose to join Analytics Sector instead of going for my Core sector. 3rd rapid fire was about my friends….tell me about your friends, close friends, why do you consider them to be close…how do you spend time together etc. He asked me to tell 1 thing which I would like to improve in my close friends and 1 thing which your close friends would like to improve in you. 4th rapid fire was related to family like, how many members….how do you contribute to home…how you spend time together…etc. When I told about the travelling I had done with my family, he started pressurizing me by asking a lot of counter questions. During this I also told about the road trip which we went. Then from this started the technical questions. How much CC car do you have….types of engines….difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke…..difference between SI and CI engines…..Doppler effect. Then he asked me about the international time line and date line. After this he asked me about my neighbourhood friends and which all activities we do together. Then he asked me about my sports and hobbies. Then he asked me about my college days….how much pocket money I used to get and how I use to spend it. Then he asked about my performance in Psych….how did u perform….how many WAT and SRT did you attempt and then he gave me a SRT and kept on pressurizing me. I answered it properly. Then he asked about my GTO performance….which task did you like etc. After this he said, “Thank you gentlemen it was pleasure talking to you. Now all your tasks are over, go to your barracks and relax. You have done your best. All the best.” And the interview was over.

{My interview lasted for around 50 mins. Overall I was very calm and confident and maintained a smiling face and proper body language as well. I was pretty confident about the selection after the interview.}

Day 5:Conference

Finally the day arrived. We were told to report @7.00 am. After which the JCO came in and gave us the basic instructions. He then took us to the conference room and explained us about the proceedings and how to enter and leave the room. After which we were taken to an auditorium where the Dy President of the board briefed us about the conference. He also told that, before applying for any job we first go through the Job Description of the role, similarly the Job Description for joining the Armed Forces is those set of 15 OLQ’s which we look for in candidates. He explained us the meaning of each OLQ and then wished us luck for the conference. Soon after the conference started.

I was made to wait for 4-5 mins outside the room. When the bell rang, I went in confidently and wished the president of the board and he told me take my sit. I was asked 3 questions. How was your stay in Bangalore? Where all did you go during these 5 days? Any suggestions?

I answered all properly. Sir then wished me all the best and I said thank you and got up from my chair. As I was going out, sir wished me all the best again, I said thank you and left the room happily. After this I was sure about my recommendation. After everybody’s conference was over we were called back in the same auditorium. This time different officer came in with a file in his hands. He briefed us a little. Told us not to lose hope if we don’t make it this time and so on……Later he told, now I will announce the results and started with chest no 3….8….10…and I was waiting for number to be called and it came….chest no 11….with tears rolling down my eyes I went ahead, told my name and stood in the line….later he told chest no 13….and that’s it gentlemen.

All our friends congratulated us and they were told to go back to the luggage point. The moment had finally arrived, for which I was waiting from long. I informed my parents and then we were taken for further documentations.

So a total of 5 candidates were recommended out of which 4 were repeaters.

About Bangalore Selection Board: The board is situated in the centre of the city and is very vast and comprises of 3 boards, 12SSB for Navy and 17SSB & 24SSB for Army. There is very good library which vast collections of books and internet room as well. They also have a movie hall where movies are screened. There is ground for volleyball & basketball. Indoor games like pool, chess and carom are also available.

How did Dr Cdr Natarajan Sir’s video lectures help?

Well, I would say that this is by far the best product available in the market for SSB preparation. Each and everything is explained in a lucid manner. I watched the video of OLQ’s many times and ingested those definitions in myself. After coming to know what exactly is seen in the candidate, I started preparing with new zeal. I went through all the lectures and came to know about the points where I need improvement. The GTO lectures proved to be a boon as I came to know about the application of cantilever practically. Also, the whatsapp group created by sir helped in practising Psychology on a daily basis. Other members of group also helped each other by providing the GK material and related stuff. I would like to thank Chetan Kumar for his support and help. Finally I would like to thank sir for such a wonderful product.
