India’s weather pattern is under various questions and has mounted many problems on farmers and government. Suicide rate in India has increased and the government gave limited help to them. Well, the weather changes have been linked with El Niño effect. Here we are discussing about El Niño effect.
El Niño – means little boy or Christ boy in Spanish
The entire process in about the warming up of sea surface over central and east central equatorial pacific region. The process is periodic and leaves negative impact over climate.
Cause
Scientists are still not sure about the cause of this effect. The effect never appears always i.e. its pattern never repeats. Scientists records the temperature change of atmosphere above sea (about 200 meters) for predicting the effect. But the rise in temperature and successive fall in pressure leads to the weakening of trade winds, changing the pattern of rain in many countries. High temperature and low pressure changes the normal weather pattern of counties.
Effects
The rise of temperature over tropic region leads to the movement of warm water from Australia to Peru which is opposite of what happens in normal year. These conditions make cold condition, in Australia or western pacific region and warm and wet condition in East pacific nation or Peru, leading to flood in extreme conditions. In northern America, winter season shows some warm traits and low snowfall. The effect of El Niño is seen mostly over developing nations on or near pacific region, which are dependent on agriculture and fishing.
Effect on India
El Niño effected Indian monsoon and results in irregular rainfall pattern. Meteorological department predicted that 2014 would show low monsoon level. This led to the drought conditions in India and raised inflation and price of commodities like sugar. So, to balance the circulation of commodities in India, government took some steps to stop their black marketing before it starts, like restricted their export, stocked them, etc. Government gave special help to farmers for supporting them. Finally the GDP of 2014 was lower than previous year, which was expected to be higher.
Current Effect
El Niño is recently in news as experts are saying that El Niño winters may benefit southwestern Colorado and LA saw biggest one-day rainfall in 4 years. While California’s drought conditions will become more damaging due to El Niño, on the other hand India also expected to get low rainfall of monsoon this year. Recently, showers have occurred in various regions of India and some places known for drought conditions like Vidarbha.
La Niño is an effect that also comes to the discussion. La Niño is the opposite of El Niño, means the temperature change in El Niño is absolutely opposite to that of la Niño. The effect leads to the warmer winters in North West region. La Niño means little girl in Spanish.
El Niño has greatly affected the weather and has caused lots of problem to the developing nations who are mostly dependent over farming and fishing. Nature has made its own way to show its resistance to the ongoing interference. This must be stopped to shield further harm and effects.
