Merkava Tank – New Interest Of India

The relations of India with top arms manufacturers are taking a new leap, especially some of the top ranker in the arms manufacturing list. Israel has been a long time military exporter of Indian and now, it has been fulfilling the military needs of India. Recently, some defense companies from Israel conducted a seminar in India. India has shown its interest in Merkava tank and Namer APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) of Israel, which is a product of those companies. The military relations between both the nations have been seen on a hike after the contract of Gil anti-tank missiles of Israel, Barak – 8 missile and upgrading of Indian tanks by Israel and many more. The Merkava tank is a main battle tank and has a 1500 HP turbo engine and has its 4 variants naming mark I, II, III, IV. The inclination of India toward these warheads increased after 20 companies involved in production of the tank and APC conducted their first ever seminar. The expected bulk procurement of the weapons by Indian army was viewed as the striking point of the seminar. Many companies like IMCO, CMCR and others have conducted the seminar, who have an aggregate export of $ 700 million. Currently the indigenously made tank ARJUN (by DRDO) has been inducted as main battle tank. But many problems have been faced by the armored corps in ARJUN tank that led to the up-gradation of the tank. But the Merkava Tanks will be a good deal for India to fill up those functional voids.

India is currently seen in a strong position of acquiring foreign technology to boost up the national security. Recently Indian government has signaled positively for 83 Tejas Mk -1 aircraft from HAL to be delivered to the Indian Air Force. The engine of the aircraft will have American engine, which it is currently using to thrust the aircraft. Simultaneously, manufacturing authorities are working to replace it with indigenous engine Kaveri. Also, India and U.S. have productively signed the deal for purchasing 145 M-777 Ultra-Light Howitzers, which are known for the mobility and exceptional working capability. The sources revealed that the guns will be preferably used on China borders. The deal is recently cleared by the cabinet committee on security and cost Rs 5000 cr.

Conclusion – The modernization is taking a fast pace in the Indian defense field and era of a strong and bold nation is emerging. Induction of Tejas, Proposal to buy Predator drones, acquiring S-400 Air Defense Systems and many other steps by Indian government will raise the strength of the nation. The ultimate effect of these weapons will secure the borders and territories of India. On the other hand it, Merkava will enhance the strength of armored corps of India.
