DSSC Wellington Hosts Grand Convocation Ceremony for 79th Staff Course Graduates

Among the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of the prestigious Manekshaw Medal to three officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, respectively, for achieving the highest order of merit in their respective services.

Amidst an atmosphere brimming with pride and anticipation, the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, played host to the prestigious Convocation Ceremony for the 79th Staff Course on April 13th, 2024.

The occasion marked the culmination of months of rigorous training and academic pursuits for 476 officers, including 36 officers from 26 friendly foreign countries, who graduated from the esteemed institution.

Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, the Commandant of DSSC, delivered an impassioned Convocation Address, urging the future leaders to remain steadfast in their quest for knowledge and to embrace their roles as catalysts of change within the armed forces.

During the convocation, Lt Gen Vats encouraged the newly graduated officers, whom he referred to as “future leaders,” to continue their pursuit of knowledge and to be pioneers of change within the Armed Forces. The ceremony also recognized outstanding achievements in military studies and group exercises. The Manekshaw Medal was awarded to Maj BPS Mankotia of the Indian Army, Cdr Ravikant Tiwari of the Indian Navy, and Wg Cdr T Mohan of the Indian Air Force for their exemplary performance. Additionally, Maj C Teeneshwaran from the Republic of Singapore received the Southern Star Medal as the top international student officer.

The Convocation Ceremony was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also an opportunity to recognize and honor meritorious officers who excelled in military studies and demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities.

Several officers and groups were awarded medals and felicitated for their outstanding performance in exercises and research projects conducted during the course.
