On the 7th of September, 2024, Lieutenant Megha Chouhan, a trailblazer in her own right, walked with pride as she passed out from the prestigious Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai, joining the ranks of the Indian Army as a commissioned officer. Her journey to this remarkable achievement is a story of resilience, passion, and the drive to serve her country.
Born into a family where her father served in the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Megha Chouhan broke new ground by becoming the first-generation army officer in her family. While her fatherโs dedication to law enforcement undoubtedly played a role in shaping her values, it was a seemingly ordinary moment that steered her toward a career in the armed forces.
โI woke up one day, saw a passing out parade video, and decided to join the India Army,โ recalls Lt. Chouhan. From that instant, her path was set.
Meghaโs journey to the Indian Army was far from easy, but her determination never wavered. She faced numerous challenges, including being merit out twice before finally securing her place at the Officers Training Academy. Despite these setbacks, her persistence paid off. She was recommended for the Indian Army three consecutive times, an extraordinary feat that showcases her unwavering resolve and desire to serve the nation.
Reflecting on her time at the Academy, Lt. Chouhan describes it as a โroller coasterโ of emotions and experiences. The training at OTA, both physically and mentally demanding, transformed her into a leader ready to take on the challenges that lay ahead in her military career. She embraced the challenge of joining the artillery, drawn to the thrill and excitement it promised. โI joined artillery because I love the thrill it would offer,โ she said, expressing her excitement for the path she has chosen.
Her familyโs pride is evident in the words of her brother, who remarked that she has โadded years to their parentsโ lives.โ This sentiment, coupled with her own immense sense of fulfillment, brings Lt. Megha Chouhan great pride in her accomplishments.
Lt. Chouhanโs educational background also played a key role in shaping her into the army officer she is today. A product of Army Public School, Jammu Cantt, she later went on to attend Gargi College, Delhi University, where she developed a well-rounded perspective on life, education, and leadership.
