Terrorist Killed in Sopore Encounter; Security Forces Continue Operations in Baramulla

In an ongoing operation in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, security forces engaged in a fierce encounter with terrorists on Saturday evening. One terrorist was confirmed killed, while two to three others were reportedly trapped in the firefight. The operation commenced following a tip-off regarding the presence of terrorists in the Rampora area of Baramulla district.

According to sources, security forces launched a search operation in response to the intelligence they received. Upon their arrival in the area, the terrorists opened fire on the army and Jammu and Kashmir Police teams. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one terrorist was neutralized, marking a significant development in the ongoing anti-terror operations in the region.

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the operation via a social media update, stating, “OP RAJPURA, Baramulla. Based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Rajpura, Sopore.” The report highlighted that as the security personnel engaged with the terrorists, effective retaliatory fire resulted in the death of one militant. However, as darkness fell over the area, the firing was temporarily halted to assess the situation further, and security forces took measures to seal all possible exit points, thereby preventing any potential escape by the remaining terrorists.

This encounter marks the second violent incident within the Baramulla area within just a week. On November 8, a separate operation led to the neutralization of two additional terrorists in a similar context. Inspector General of Police for the Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, confirmed that operations had been intensified following reports of terrorist activities in the region. Birdi recounted how the police attempted to secure the area first by evacuating civilians before the encounter escalated, resulting in the deaths of the two terrorists.

Throughout these operations, security forces have been systematically recovering arms and ammunition, further indicating the scale of the threat posed by the militants. The increased military presence and operations in Jammu and Kashmir come as the Indian Army continues to monitor and address security issues in the region.

In a related note, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a review of the security situation in the Kathua district on November 9, focusing on areas bordering Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, and engaged in discussions with the troops stationed there. The reviews underscore the ongoing commitment of the Indian Army and security agencies to combat terrorism and secure regional stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
