Havildar Naresh Kumar Donates Son’s Organs, Saves Lives of Six Patients

In a profound act of selflessness and humanity, Havildar Naresh Kumar of the 10th Battalion, The Mahar Regiment, has donated the organs of his 18-year-old son, Arshdeep Singh, saving the lives of six patients battling chronic illnesses.

Arshdeep Singh, who tragically succumbed to injuries from a road accident on February 8, 2025, was declared brain-dead at Command Hospital, Western Command. Despite the immense personal loss, Havildar Naresh Kumar made the courageous decision to donate his son’s organs, turning his grief into a life-giving legacy.

Life-Saving Organ Transplantation by Army Medical Team

The Army transplant team at Command Hospital, Western Command, successfully harvested and transported Arshdeep’s organs to various medical facilities, facilitating life-saving transplants:

  • Liver and one kidney: Transferred to the Army Hospital (Research and Referral), New Delhi, via a green corridor created by military police, and transported by an Indian Air Force aircraft, ensuring swift delivery for critical surgeries.
  • Second kidney and pancreas: Donated to a patient at PGIMER, Chandigarh, suffering from Type I Diabetes with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), providing a new lease on life.
  • Corneas: Preserved at the Eye Bank of Command Hospital, to restore vision to visually impaired patients in the future.

A Legacy of Humanity and Courage

The Command Hospital Western Command, recognized as the Best Organ Retrieval Centre by the Government of India, acknowledged Havildar Naresh Kumar’s act as an example of extraordinary compassion and sacrifice.
