Amid scenes of grief and chaos at Civil Hospital in Asarwa, one survivor’s voice stands out in the aftermath of the tragic Air India crash. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, survived the accident and is currently recovering in the hospital’s general ward. His account provides a chilling glimpse into the moments leading up to the crash.
Vishwash had been in India for a short visit to spend time with his family and was returning to the UK along with his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45. Seated in 11A aboard the London-bound flight, Vishwash recalled the terrifying seconds following takeoff.
“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” he said, speaking to Hindustan Times from his hospital bed. He sustained impact injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet but is conscious and stable.
His brother Ajay’s condition remains unknown as search and identification efforts continue amidst the wreckage. As families anxiously await news of their loved ones, Vishwash’s survival has brought a sliver of hope and humanity to an otherwise grim day.
The crash, which claimed numerous lives and injured many others, has led to a massive rescue and relief effort led by the Indian Army and local authorities. Medical teams are working around the clock, while officials continue investigations into the cause of the crash. Vishwash’s testimony is expected to play a role in reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the disaster.
