In a proud moment for the Indian Army and the nation, Havildar Arun Kumar of the Rajputana Rifles, currently serving under the Trishakti Corps, has won the gold medal in the 73 kg category at the prestigious Senior Asian Judo Championship 2025. The tournament was held in Chinese Taipei from July 12 to 13.
Kumar’s stellar performance at this International Judo Federation (IJF)-recognized ranking event marks a significant achievement for India’s growing judo community and underscores the enduring martial spirit of the Indian Army. His victory reflects the high standards of physical training and discipline instilled by the Trishakti Corps, headquartered in Sukna and responsible for safeguarding Sikkim and the sensitive Siliguri Corridor.

The Rajputana Rifles, one of the Indian Army’s oldest and most decorated regiments, adds another feather to its cap with this international win. With a legacy stretching back to 1775, the regiment is known for its valour and has earned four Victoria Crosses and more than 50 gallantry awards.
Havildar Arun Kumar’s gold medal also signals a boost for India’s standing in judo, especially as the sport gains traction under the governance of the Judo Federation of India, founded in 1965. After a modest showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kumar’s success is being hailed as a sign of renewed momentum and potential for Indian judokas on the global stage.
Military and sports experts alike emphasize the value of combat sports like judo in enhancing soldiers’ physical resilience and tactical capabilities. A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research supports the integration of such disciplines into military training for improved operational readiness.
The Indian Army and the Trishakti Corps continue to support and celebrate achievements in the sporting arena, recognizing them as a vital part of the military’s broader commitment to excellence, modernization, and national pride.
