Major General M P S Gill, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Uttarakhand Sub Area, conducted an official visit to Raiwala Military Station to assess key welfare and healthcare initiatives aimed at serving troops and veterans.
The visit included in-depth discussions with Brigadier V Tyagi, Station Commander of Raiwala, focusing on land management, operational readiness, and community support. A major highlight was the detailed review of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) facility – a vital healthcare support system for retired armed forces personnel and their families.

Maj Gen Gill reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to enhancing healthcare standards, praising the local implementation of ECHS. Since its launch in 2004, the scheme has expanded to 427 polyclinics across India and continues to see improvements. A 2019 Armed Forces Medical Journal report noted a 15% rise in veteran satisfaction, largely due to better access to medical services.
During the visit, the GOC appreciated the efforts of all ranks stationed at Raiwala and encouraged them to uphold professionalism and dedication. His tour also marked a significant moment in leadership continuity, having taken charge of the Uttarakhand Sub Area in May 2025, succeeding Major General R Prem Raj.

A seasoned officer, Maj Gen Gill is an alumnus of RIMC, NDA, and IMA. His distinguished career includes commanding a Mechanised Infantry Battalion and an armoured brigade on the western front.
The visit also highlighted the continued legacy of the Tyagi family in India’s military history. Brig V Tyagi’s leadership echoes the contributions of his lineage, notably Air Chief Marshal Shashindra Pal Tyagi, who played a prominent role during his tenure as Chief of the Air Staff.

Maj Gen Gill’s engagement at Raiwala underscores the Army’s holistic approach to operational efficiency and personnel welfare, setting a strong precedent for future leadership.
