Major Pankaj Bhatt, a participant in the Aviation Technology Course at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME), has secured a top-three position in the MyGov national essay competition themed “Operation Sindoor – Redefining India’s Policy Against Terrorism.” The contest, organised by the Ministry of Defence as part of the 2025 Independence Day celebrations, saw 20,557 entries from across India.
Major Bhatt’s essay stood out for its analytical depth and nuanced understanding of India’s evolving counter-terrorism strategy. His success reflects the high-quality mentorship and rigorous intellectual training at MCEME, underscoring the synergy between military excellence and strategic thinking.

Operation Sindoor: Context and Strategic Significance
Launched earlier this year, Operation Sindoor was designed to counter cross-border terrorism, particularly in Kashmir. While intended as a non-escalatory measure, the operation triggered retaliatory strikes. India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and the Shimla Agreement further heightened regional tensions, though the operation remains a testament to India’s strategic resolve.
Military Training Meets Intellectual Prowess
Experts note that programs like the Aviation Technology course at MCEME enhance officers’ abilities to engage with complex security issues. Major Bhatt’s achievement highlights the growing role of military personnel in shaping policy debates and strategic discourse, reinforcing the intellectual dimension of the Indian Army.
The Ministry of Defence is expected to release full details of all competition winners soon. Meanwhile, Major Bhatt’s recognition has brought pride to the Indian Army, emphasizing the armed forces’ expanding footprint not only on the battlefield but also in national strategic conversations.
