Major General Alok Bhalla, VSM, a distinguished gastrointestinal surgeon with more than 30 years of exemplary service in the Indian Army Medical Corps, has taken over as the Commandant of Command Hospital Central Command in Lucknow.
One of the premier healthcare institutions of the Armed Forces, the 600-bed Command Hospital provides advanced medical care to serving personnel, veterans, and their families. During the formal handing-over ceremony, Major General Bhalla urged all ranks to uphold the hospitalโs rich traditions of healing, compassion, and professional excellence.
An accomplished surgeon, Major General Bhalla has performed over 5,000 complex procedures and has served in challenging operational areas including Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast. His leadership is expected to further strengthen the hospitalโs role in delivering world-class healthcare to the armed forces community.
The Command Hospital operates under the Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), which integrates the medical services of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This tri-service system, established in 1948, has been a cornerstone of operational readiness and quality healthcare for the military.
The transition ceremony was attended by senior officers, medical staff, and dignitaries, underlining the significance of this leadership change.
