The Southern Command of the Indian Army successfully conducted a seminar on Additive Manufacturing for Sustenance of Combat Critical Equipment at the Regional Signal and Mechanical Engineers Institute (RSAMI), Pune, on Wednesday. The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academia, and Armed Forces veterans to deliberate on the future of advanced manufacturing technologies in defence.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of adopting cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to ensure the long-term sustenance and reliability of combat-critical equipment.
Lieutenant General JS Sidana, AVSM, Director General and Senior Colonel Commandant, Corps of EME, provided expert insights on the roadmap for integrating additive manufacturing into the Indian Army, underlining its role in strengthening operational readiness.
The seminar featured engaging panel discussions on strategies to fast-track the adoption of additive manufacturing in the defence ecosystem. Speakers highlighted its potential to reduce dependency on imports, speed up repair and maintenance cycles, and enhance mission preparedness.
Officials said the event served as a vital collaborative platform, aligning military requirements with industrial capabilities and academic research, while reinforcing the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
