An Indian Air Force (IAF) PC-7 Mk II basic trainer aircraft crashed near Tambaram, Chennai, on Thursday during a routine training mission. The incident occurred at approximately 1425 hours, prompting an immediate response from the Air Force and local authorities.
The pilot, who was on a solo training sortie, ejected safely and is reported to be in stable condition. Thanks to the controlled ejection and the aircraft coming down in an open area, no damage to civilian property or injuries to locals have been reported.
The IAF has ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate and determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary details indicate that the aircraft encountered an unexpected issue mid-flight, leading to the forced ejection.
The PC-7 Mk II, manufactured by Pilatus Aircraft, is a key component of the IAF’s basic training fleet and has been widely used for introductory flying training for cadets at various Air Force training bases.
Further details are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
