With โJosh in the hearts, Adventure at the Peak!โ as their spirit, an 18-member Indian Army team has set out to conquer Mount Kangto (7,042 m / 23,103 ft) โ one of the highest and most formidable peaks in Arunachal Pradesh. The expedition was flagged off by Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Gajraj Corps, from a forward base of the Corps on 3 November 2025.
Rekindling the Spirit of Himalayan Exploration
Mount Kangto, towering majestically in the Eastern Himalayas, stands as a symbol of raw natural challenge and unexplored beauty. The mountain was last successfully scaled in 1930, making this expedition a historic attempt to re-climb the peak after nearly a century.

Grit, Discipline, and Indomitable Spirit
The team of 18 bravehearts from the Gajraj Corps will traverse treacherous icy ridges, steep glaciers, and rugged terrains while braving extreme cold and rarefied air at high altitude. Their mission exemplifies the grit, discipline, teamwork, and indomitable spirit that define the Indian Armyโs ethos. The expedition also aims to foster adventure, endurance, and leadership among the troops while reinforcing Indiaโs strong presence in the strategically important frontier region.

A Testament to Adventure and Resilience
Lt Gen Gambhir Singh, while flagging off the team, lauded their courage and determination, emphasizing that such ventures embody the adventurous spirit and operational preparedness of the Indian Army. He wished the team success in their pursuit to unfurl the Tricolour atop one of the most challenging Himalayan summits.
Reviving a Legacy of Courage in the Eastern Himalayas
The Mount Kangto Expedition 2025 is not only a test of endurance and skill but also a tribute to Indiaโs mountaineering legacy in the high Himalayas. By attempting to scale this long-unclimbed peak, the Gajraj Corps continues to inspire a new generation of soldiers to pursue excellence, adventure, and national pride at the roof of the world.
