In a significant step toward strengthening India’s eastern defences, Lt Gen R.C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, visited the forward areas of Gajraj Corps to review the operational readiness, internal security situation, and ongoing infrastructure development initiatives of the formation.
During the visit, Lt Gen Tiwari laid the foundation stone for the Lachit Borphukan Military Station at Bamunigaon in Dhubri district, Assam — a project aimed at enhancing the Army’s operational capability and logistic support in the strategically important eastern sector.
The Army Commander was briefed on various operational preparedness measures, border management mechanisms, and progress in infrastructure projects that will boost troop mobility and mission sustainability along India’s eastern borders. He also interacted with troops deployed in forward locations, commending their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s frontiers under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
Expressing his gratitude to the Government of Assam and the Civil Administration, Lt Gen Tiwari appreciated their proactive support in facilitating the establishment of the new military station. He lauded the synergy between the Army and local authorities, emphasizing that such cooperation is crucial for ensuring long-term regional stability and development.
The General Officer further complimented all ranks of the Gajraj Corps for their continued dedication, resilience, and efforts toward early operationalisation of the new base. He reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering resolve to maintain a high state of preparedness and contribute actively to the socio-economic development of the region.
The Lachit Borphukan Military Station, once completed, is expected to serve as a major hub for operational logistics, training, and coordination in the eastern theatre, reinforcing India’s strategic posture along the Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Bangladesh borders.
