Shri Vishvajit Sahay, a 1990-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), has assumed charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA). With more than three decades of distinguished service, Shri Sahay brings a wealth of experience in defence finance, budgeting, and public administration to the apex post of the Defence Accounts Department.
A Distinguished Career in Government Service
An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, Shri Vishvajit Sahay has held several key positions in the Government of India. His previous appointments include Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Science and Technology, Joint Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industry, and Finance Manager (Acquisition Wing) in the Ministry of Defence — roles that reflect his deep expertise in both fiscal management and policy formulation.
Key Contributions within Defence Accounts Department
Within the Defence Accounts Department (DAD), Shri Sahay has served in multiple pivotal roles such as Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions), Prayagraj, Joint CGDA, and Special CGDA. These assignments highlight his extensive background in managing large-scale financial systems, ensuring transparency, and implementing reforms to modernize defence accounting and pension administration.
Global Exposure and Professional Excellence
In addition to his domestic assignments, Shri Sahay has represented India at prestigious international training forums, including Cambridge University, United Kingdom, and the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies, Germany. His global exposure has equipped him with valuable perspectives on financial governance, defence policy, and institutional reform.
