A civilian employee posted at the National Defence Academy was found dead in an incident of unnatural death reported on January 8, police officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Mayur Pawar (31), who served as a cadet orderly and was employed as Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) at the NDA. According to preliminary information, Pawar was found unresponsive around 5:45 pm inside a furniture store within the NDA premises while he was on duty with a squadron.
Personnel from Uttamnagar Police Station reached the spot soon after being alerted and initiated an investigation. Pawar, a resident of Lamanwadi, Khadakwasla, had been associated with the NDA for nearly 11 years.
Police officials stated that a note was recovered from the scene indicating that Pawar was under financial stress. The note reportedly mentioned that no individual should be held responsible for the incident. Authorities said further inquiry is underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the case.
The family has been informed, and the body was sent to Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, for a post-mortem examination as per standard procedure.
In an official statement, the Commandant and personnel of the NDA expressed deep condolences and said the institution stands with the bereaved family during this difficult time. The Academy has assured full cooperation with civil authorities and extended support to the family.
